TO BE HONEST this movie is definitely not about feminism but just the reality of the normal thing the urban girls do and SONAM was not at all annoying in this interview but just explaining things which absolutely makes sense and theres nothing for anyone to mock at them bin matlab ka kyunki they're just explaining what their film is all about. They worked hard for it and made a movie that they are happy for and We need to appreciate this labour and show them some LOVE cuz that's all we need, that's all we should give to each other instead of questioning them or teaching them about feminism, good voice, acting, and blah blah! I totally get that and love that they embrace the fact that it is a great change for women to finally be liberated and be who they are. I just feel they could've had a better response to Anupama's question. A very common understanding of people just associate women's liberation/feminism with the three things mentioned and Anupama was just trying to get their opinion for the bigger picture. I know they aren't trying to preach anything but they must acknowledge that it is a responsibility representing women of today.

I completely get where they are coming from but tbh they should have prepared for such questions well in advance. Imagine if they laughed amongst themselves and said they enjoy all 3, or a fun fact about their characters, or a funny story about them getting drunk in real life. It would've really set a positive tone for the interview and get the point across it's no big deal.

And it's still not considered progressive. When women's rights were fought for in the 60s the issues raised were deeper and has societal impacts. Nobody's saying women can't drink, smoke or have casual sex. They can and its their choice. But that's not all women's rights are about. It's a lot more than that. And those three things are not liberating tools for men or women. Understanding that requires one to be at least slightly informed regarding women's issues and patriarchy. The concept of "freedom of choice" is a lot deeper than three things. What they've depicted in the movie, is the most simplified and boring version of the concept. It's straight forward and doesn't require the audience to think. But then again, the common man in India doesn't watch movies to be mentally challenged or to think. The common man watches movies as an escape from reality to enter a fantasy world that can make him forget about his stressful everyday life.
If you see Zibdagi Na Milegi Dobara they all looked like real friends and even in the way they would talk during the movie or interviews......here i just can't feel they are all friends. They have froced themselves to be in the movie.

Just watch ZNMD you feel that vibe or watch Farhan and hrithik giving interview you will feel that they are really enjoying each other's company as friends do, I felt that missing in these girls
I really wish this film had 3-4 very well known actresses because it seems like Swara/Shikha are being sidelined. It's really important these 4 stand united in interviews and just have fun promoting it, there's no need to take the burden of what is feminist/not as men don't have these pressures. If Vidya, Priyanka or Kangana did this film too I think the budget would've been higher too. If not the 3 mentioned, some realistic choices would've been: Bipasha, Nimrat, Preity Zinta, Rani, Anushka maybe even Karishma - would've been nice to see both sisters together.

From the trailer, and even the title that's exactly what it seems. The word "Veere" means brother. And these people seem to knowingly promote cultural stereotypes about Delhi, where men (and women) drink, hook up, and abuse. Not saying, it doesn't happen, but I doubt everyone is fond of it and I don't think that itself makes up for a very good story. Feminism should not be about women acting like men, just for the sake of it, but them being true to themselves. I am a male, I don't drink alcohol, I don't like partying, I abuse rarely only when I am extremely frustrated... If I like a character, it's because of their depth not because of drinking alcohol or hooking up

I think its better to talk about ideas that were proposed by them. I see people criticising how swara speaks or how sonam is "irritaring" to listen to or how one looks (disinterested/interested). Y do we think they need to please us even while they aren't acting. These are real people talking about something and voicing opinions. Its alright to agree/disagree with what they said but every other personal detail (style of speaking, lipstick she wears, one of them tilting her head) is not meant to be judged. I wonder how many of us will be "liked" when we are made to sit and talk about something. Everythings not about putting up a show.

That's the whole point, unfortunately there was no idea in the entire interview...Most of the time even Anupama was confused on did I even ask this question, during the start she said multiple time but I mean, But i said, But I never said !!! Where is the opinion ? And one can not start giving opinion on stock market or rape or randomly about feminism, or speak about her dad or mom or aunt, when the context is totally different !!!
Anu Garg i beg to differ. Anupama was expecting this movie to have a feminist streak to it. But the girls wanted to clear that is not the premise of it. Like sonam concluded, its a light hearted story about 4 people who happen to be women. And these women might or might not be feminists, rather they are girls going thru stuff and living their life a certain way( whether its the right way to go about or the right message to send is another debate and one must watch the movie for the context). Also, they did speak about how her aunt ( sridevi) was a crowdpuller of her movies at that time itself. Then movies that had a significant screen space for female leads, how there are/ in what ratio movies had scripts that gave them that but not many chose to do them. I think they did speak with in context and made a reasonable conversation. Its not a speech so i think its ok to let it flow without getting lost. And arent we a bit too hypercritical when women open their mouth?

I liked how Kareena spoke so little but she made a point with her statement. They can do whatever they want its their choice. Sonam spoke a lot but I liked swara's view on films and budget. And for all the others who are saying that the movie will receive no collection they should really look at the fan base of this movie. It will do great at the box-office!
Sonam kapoor talks more and listen less. she tends to drop her father and sister into conversation. the other three were more mature . Kareena is very measured, shows maturity and so is shikha. Swara is intelligent and answered the question about feminism spot on which Sonam could not surmise very well.
All the ladies looking wonderful. Sonam and Swara both look refreshing. Shikha is dressed chic and looking nice. Kareena is looking good as well, though appears a bit tired. But her 'cuticle chewing' half way through the conversation and looking a bit disinterested to the whole conversation was a little distracting and amusing, I must say! :-) But overall, the conversation is refreshing as well, talking about broader topics than just focusing on the film they are here to promote. I enjoy listening to Swara. She comes across as a level-headed, intelligent person. All the best with the film! :-)

TO BE HONEST this movie is definitely not about feminism but just the reality of the normal thing the urban girls do and SONAM was not at all annoying in this interview but just explaining things which absolutely makes sense and theres nothing for anyone to mock at them bin matlab ka kyunki they're just explaining what their film is all about. They worked hard for it and made a movie that they are happy for and We need to appreciate this labour and show them some LOVE cuz that's all we need, that's all we should give to each other instead of questioning them or teaching them about feminism, good voice, acting, and blah blah!

I totally get that and love that they embrace the fact that it is a great change for women to finally be liberated and be who they are. I just feel they could've had a better response to Anupama's question. A very common understanding of people just associate women's liberation/feminism with the three things mentioned and Anupama was just trying to get their opinion for the bigger picture. I know they aren't trying to preach anything but they must acknowledge that it is a responsibility representing women of today.
Rashmi Bhattarai I don't know about that honestly.. though I'd really wish they answered it regardless of if the film dealt with it or not. It's just something to be proud of that women are fighting the odds to let their stories be heard.
I think Tumhari Sulu, Hichki and Raazi are just some amazing recent examples of women doing empowered roles and the film doing well. If a film is good, nothing can stop it. Period.
I completely get where they are coming from but tbh they should have prepared for such questions well in advance. Imagine if they laughed amongst themselves and said they enjoy all 3, or a fun fact about their characters, or a funny story about them getting drunk in real life. It would've really set a positive tone for the interview and get the point across it's no big deal.
Saikishore Annamaraju they're not well informed enough to answer that question. And smoking, drinking and casual sex may be an urban thing in India but in Europe it's not considered urban. And it's still not considered progressive. When women's rights were fought for in the 60s the issues raised were deeper and has societal impacts.
Nobody's saying women can't drink, smoke or have casual sex. They can and its their choice. But that's not all women's rights are about. It's a lot more than that. And those three things are not liberating tools for men or women. Understanding that requires one to be at least slightly informed regarding women's issues and patriarchy.
The concept of "freedom of choice" is a lot deeper than three things. What they've depicted in the movie, is the most simplified and boring version of the concept. It's straight forward and doesn't require the audience to think. But then again, the common man in India doesn't watch movies to be mentally challenged or to think. The common man watches movies as an escape from reality to enter a fantasy world that can make him forget about his stressful everyday life.

Papa John and I think big things like melodramatic scenes, heavy dialogues don't make a great movie, though they are equally important but small things like how they behave with each other, an unexpected movement sign or expression like eyes movement, hand movement, posture makes a great movie... Just watch ZNMD you feel that vibe or watch Farhan and hrithik giving interview you will feel that they are really enjoying each other's company as friends do, I felt that missing in these girls

I really wish this film had 3-4 very well known actresses because it seems like Swara/Shikha are being sidelined. It's really important these 4 stand united in interviews and just have fun promoting it, there's no need to take the burden of what is feminist/not as men don't have these pressures. If Vidya, Priyanka or Kangana did this film too I think the budget would've been higher too.
If not the 3 mentioned, some realistic choices would've been: Bipasha, Nimrat, Preity Zinta, Rani, Anushka maybe even Karishma - would've been nice to see both sisters together.

Kareena lives in such an isolated bubble. Making faces with almost every comment Swara makes. Yes, there have been female-centric films but these films are just abysmally far and few in between a deluge of chauvinistic male-dominated films, in all fields of cinema or even in general. Second, yes Kareen, Swara IS more educated and well-read than many actresses.

From the trailer, and even the title that's exactly what it seems. The word "Veere" means brother. And these people seem to knowingly promote cultural stereotypes about Delhi, where men (and women) drink, hook up, and abuse. Not saying, it doesn't happen, but I doubt everyone is fond of it and I don't think that itself makes up for a very good story. Feminism should not be about women acting like men, just for the sake of it, but them being true to themselves. I am a male, I don't drink alcohol, I don't like partying, I abuse rarely only when I am extremely frustrated... If I like a character, it's because of their depth not because of drinking alcohol or hooking up

I think its better to talk about ideas that were proposed by them. I see people criticising how swara speaks or how sonam is "irritaring" to listen to or how one looks (disinterested/interested). Y do we think they need to please us even while they aren't acting. These are real people talking about something and voicing opinions. Its alright to agree/disagree with what they said but every other personal detail (style of speaking, lipstick she wears, one of them tilting her head) is not meant to be judged. I wonder how many of us will be "liked" when we are made to sit and talk about something. Everythings not about putting up a show.

But dont you think, It would be rather simple if people just agreed or disagreed and put their point of view out there?I know we expect people to say the "intelligent" thing, the "smart" way. But isnt it unfair to them to expect such perfection, that too in having opinions. Then its no longer an opinion we are interested in(we must be interested in "facts"). Its true that all of us could be more aware and it would be great if we had everyone on the same page(ideally). But life just dosent work like that. People have different experiences and takeaways from it. It might not be perfect, but it makes each of us an individual. So..its better to enjoy and respect opinions instead of hating or idealising people for it. We are social and hence we communicate. And i think there is no need to make it violent by hate.

This film is groundbreaking and a good opportunity to educate and change perceptions, they need to have a positive approach to not make feminism appear as men-bashing but an inclusive movement. The day men ally with women will be the day true equality will begin. I appreciate Sonam's passion and she is frustrated by it all, but we can't succumb to the level of idiots, reducing her film to 'come watch 4 attractive girls' is a little silly too
That's the whole point, unfortunately there was no idea in the entire interview...Most of the time even Anupama was confused on did I even ask this question, during the start she said multiple time but I mean, But i said, But I never said !!! Where is the opinion ? And one can not start giving opinion on stock market or rape or randomly about feminism, or speak about her dad or mom or aunt, when the context is totally different !!!
Anu Garg i beg to differ. Anupama was expecting this movie to have a feminist streak to it. But the girls wanted to clear that is not the premise of it. Like sonam concluded, its a light hearted story about 4 people who happen to be women. And these women might or might not be feminists, rather they are girls going thru stuff and living their life a certain way( whether its the right way to go about or the right message to send is another debate and one must watch the movie for the context). Also, they did speak about how her aunt ( sridevi) was a crowdpuller of her movies at that time itself. Then movies that had a significant screen space for female leads, how there are/ in what ratio movies had scripts that gave them that but not many chose to do them. I think they did speak with in context and made a reasonable conversation. Its not a speech so i think its ok to let it flow without getting lost. And arent we a bit too hypercritical when women open their mouth?

Sonam kapoor talks more and listen less. she tends to drop her father and sister into conversation. the other three were more mature . Kareena is very measured, shows maturity and so is shikha. Swara is intelligent and answered the question about feminism spot on which Sonam could not surmise very well.

All the ladies looking wonderful. Sonam and Swara both look refreshing. Shikha is dressed chic and looking nice. Kareena is looking good as well, though appears a bit tired. But her 'cuticle chewing' half way through the conversation and looking a bit disinterested to the whole conversation was a little distracting and amusing, I must say! :-) But overall, the conversation is refreshing as well, talking about broader topics than just focusing on the film they are here to promote. I enjoy listening to Swara. She comes across as a level-headed, intelligent person. All the best with the film! :-)
