I was born in 1996 and seeing this makes me feel like I wasn't. The rate of change in culture at the end of the nineties and into the early 2000's makes this era feel completely foreign to the people who were born in it. Especially considering that basically everyone is barely forming memories for the first 3-5 years of life so you're effectively missing an entire era.
We had buses here in San Diego retire last year that were commissioned in 1997. They were honestly in better shape than the newer ones after a few years lol
aw man dude. They wore hella north face in the 90's by far. Its crazy because I learned that not too long ago. When I was in the 10th-12 grade in hs back between 2011-14 everybody broke out with northface during the fall and winter months. I don't see them as much as I used too
These where glorious days to live in NY. No virtue signalling, no mobile phones, ordinary people able to afford rent, time square hadn't been completely disneyfied yet etc..
I remember leaving Tavern on the Green and watching a pedestrian get annoyed at a Taxi and "stomp walked" right on the hood and roof and off the trunk and kept walking. Priceless.
No one on a cell phone..
Just walking enjoying life
Cell phones were just phones back then, no reason to be using them unless you were making a phone call.
I wonder if people said that about cars back in the day. People familiar with horse and buggy would say wow no one driving cars excellent
Very true this is when we where all human
@@Kiror0_ well duh they existed but social media didn’t
@@goingfarwebb26 nothing has changed then. Human interaction via talking hasn’t gone away
80s and 90s cars were beautiful. early 2000s were still good. but late 2000s to now......
What about cars now? They look better than early 2000’s
@@amuroray9115 they're look boring as f*ck
Straight facts. I miss that time
One of the best years ever.
but 2pac died
Oh wow, this is some good footage.
I certainly miss those rectangular shaped chevy taxis

5:22 The guy in the North Face jacket was ahead of the times, I didn't know that jacket was even that old...
Damn its the matrix glitch strikes again !
People watching 2021 clips in 2096:
Look, they have some stupid device in their hands.
No annoying tourists stopping in front of you to take selfish selfies.
I just like how much less populated the city was. Room to actually walk on the sidewalks in midtown without having to navigate around idiot tourists
WOW NOBODY IS ON A CELL PHONE AND THEY LOOK REALLY NORMAL AND HAPPY
Yeah 1000+ murders that year . Not a care in the world . Just sunshine and subways
man! i love your videos!!!
It feels like yesterday
Hard to believe that the newest MTA buses in service when this was taken are still in service today
They werent even that new then. Take a look at the opening scene of "The Pope of Greenwich Village." You'll see the same bus even then in 1983-4
1996 wasn't that long ago to be honest!!
Yeah, those 1996 RTS's. They lasted 22 years, with the last ones retiring in December 2018.
@@Nicky-Ace-Di He's talking about the 1996 Novabus RTS-06.

thx for the videos! very interesting!
Back when it was still cool to tug your shirts/jackets in.

90’s was a rough time in some parts ofNY
@@amuroray9115 I know it was in queens.
My family moved from New York to Florida in 1994. I don’t miss it at all but I remember hearing about all the changes under Rudy Giuliani.

90s was gangsta as hell in New York. Real as it gets
How i wish i was there
This was 30 years after Fifth Avenue first became one-way southbound.
I didn't know when that had happened. When I commuted down Fifth from E 83rd St by bus, it was southbound only (early seventies). Thank you.
Was this filmed on a Saturday or Sunday? My guess is that it was a Sunday morning. It was very slow-paced.
Early Sunday morning.
I was 26. Now I'm 49. I still look almost the same. No plastic surgery, either. Not kidding.
Many years ago lol
the good old crown vic's and caprice's
Yes! Those were the default taxi fleet.
Mi favorite place in the world, NY 😍
I see a lot of 80s cars in this. I wonder why I don't see too many 90s cars nowadays.
80s cars are built like tanks. 90s cars were plastic and people junked them fast.
James7796ify Ah, that makes sense
1991 was the last year American made a full metal car. the 1991 grand marquis was the last boxy metal car. It's a shame
James7796ify Really? I would've thought the last metal car to be the 1992 Cadillac Brougham
Yea that too I forgot about that. What a boat
is there anyway I can possibly use this for a show I'm making it takes place in 1997 I will of course give you full credit for these videos
How did the show go?
What I find interesting is that those Caprices were new at the time, some of them around 4 years old maybe, and still they already look very rough lol
Wow, very light traffic in those days
I would love to enjoy this video to the fullest especially since it was just filmed recently....but with y2k just 4 years away I'm worried🤥😳

This was at the time when my dad was my age
I had and used a cellphone (mobile) in NYC in 1996.
Such a beautiful time! No smart phones just living …
