SATUN, THAILAND - Welcome to Khuankhong Garden สวนควนข้องหม้อข้าวหม้อแกงลิง (goo.gl/maps/8JAnGdSeQA6PvocP7) in the southern Thailand province of Satun. It’s an entire garden that’s dedicated to the amazing pitcher plant. As soon as you arrive, you’ll notice four different and very distinct varieties of pitcher plants. And not only does the owner grow them, he teaches about pitcher plants, and cooks them for you to eat! #Thailand #plantbased #pitcherplants
He made a mixture of sticky rice, coconut milk, sugar, salt, and butterfly pea juice to make it blue, stuffed that into the little perfect tube pitches and steamed them.
Along with eating cooked pitcher plants, you can eat them raw. To me they tasted similar to a green apple skin. It was sour, crisp, and had an amazing snap to it. As I was munching on the pitcher plants, I was amazed at their versatility and the possibilities of how they could be stuffed - endless possibilities!
In parts of the island of Borneo, where pitcher plants are abundant in the rainforest, they also prepare rice dishes steamed in pitcher plants. I would love to visit someday soon to eat rice and pitcher plants in Borneo!
Thank you for watching and hope you’re having a fantastic day!
