I was there. My seats were in the south endzone while the play took place in the north endzone. There were no video monitors in Michigan Stadium in those days. I didn't realize Desmond was interfered with until I saw it on the news later that evening. I still think it was a catch. Back then they didn't have the convoluted "complete the process" rules like now. Desmond had the ball and it didn't come out until he hit the ground. The ground cannot cause a fumble.
Was in the stands for this one. Amazing sequence right before the end of the half. Fun times
