  • Hey everyone! I hope this was a helpful video in some way. Of course these are just MY tips-what has worked for me over the past months of Project Use It Up, Project Pan, and No Buys. These won’t all work for you or for everyone, so like I said, it is all about trial and error. DO WHAT WORKS FOR YOU!
    If you have any tips or lessons you’ve learned from Project Pans, No Buys, or a Project Use It Up, please share them with us in the comments. I would love to read them! Or make a video about it, if you make videos :))
    Thank you all SO MUCH for hanging out with me today.
    I will see you tomorrow with a Project Use It Up update & goal video. See you then!
    xoxo,
    Megan

    You posted this video in 2014. Here I am watching it in 2018. It is a fantastic and informative video. I started panning in April. I luv panning. Thank you for some good ideas. I am on a no buy for this month. I am enjoying it because it is liberating for me. I am using everything from my collection. I purchased some really good things. I am getting to know what I have, comfortable using them, and growing so much from panning. Great video!

    A great side benefit of all this for me is that I have to look good every day. It makes me develop good daily habits. Getting ready (makeup and all) first thing every morning. Removing makeup and cleansing skin properly every evening. I am enjoying the compliments (and the extra money in the bank). Thank you for encouraging all of us...

    Some great tips here!! For me the most sobering experience was when I realised how long it takes to actually use something up - I kind of understood the "commitment" when buying something new!
    I think I need to make some lists! I'm always forgetting something that I'm supposed to be focusing on, and I imagine it would feel super rewarding getting to tick off one of those boxes he he!! Awesome video!! :) xx

    • @megsmakeup8
      @megsmakeup8  Před 10 lety

      BPJEllie it does seriously take FOREVER to use up some products (which is good and bad all at the same time). i definitely feel the commitment factor especially for bronzers since working on the same one for over 8 months; thankfully i love the one i'm working on though! lists are SO effective for me! i hope they work for you, too, ellie if you decide to make them :) xo, megan

    This video was so refreshing for me! When I started getting into makeup, I told myself I want to have a huge collection. I bought so many makeup items that I don't even reach for anymore. I have been wanting to do a project pan or a shop my stash for awhile now, but have felt almost as if I am "punishing" myself. I love the products, but by saying to myself I am going to do a project pan, I feel as if I am just gaining more stress. This video helped me so much and I now have hit pan and used up multiple products from my collection!

    Creativity= happiness
    Buying new shit cuts down on my creativity I think- at least for me. For me truly understanding color theory cut down on my constant manic buying.
    Literally theirs not really any colors I can’t mix.

    New subscriber, my tip is this, on your days off practice with your products! I hated the Double Wear Foundation but I started sheering it out with Derm E face oil & find it works for me now. I also try various techniques for under eye concealers & correctors & they have helped tremendously. Also, it’s just makeup, if something I try doesn’t work, a good cleanse & it’s gone

    Thank's for this video!I officially started us it up and panning around the beginning of June. Almost everything that I put that I wanted to use up in these projects have been used up and I found that I'm a pretty good judge of how long something will last or be used up. Almost every month my goals have been met. I did a purge and got rid of the stuff I didn't like first. But I also saw what I had and if something didn't work out for one thing I tried using it in another way, like shimmery beige eyeshadow as a face highlight, so I saved that and I found that I really loved the way it looked. My collection is small but I'm so happy with it, I still have one item I'm still on the fence with, but I think this one item will be gone if I don't reach for it this month. It's a cream highlighter. I had 2 cream blushes for lips and cheeks, but they made me break out, they were both also in the same color range, so I'm project panning them for my lips every other week.I own 2 eye palettes, the Too Faced Natural Eye palette that I'm currently project panning and I absolutley love it, I also have the Naked Basics by Urban Decay, I also only have 1 single eyeshadow that's a copper shade that's really versitile. I also realized I didn't like pencil liners so I'm using the dark colors with a brush, I found too that I needed to figure out what I didn't like first as well. I have a pencil in nude for my waterline but for some reason it doesn't bother me like dark colored ones do. I also don't like foundations or BB creams, they're lovely but I just don't enjoy wearing them. I also got rid of things that were irritating too. I gave my best friend my Stila In The Light Palette, I loved it so much, but I was panning my too faced one, and I had another one after that too. I wanted someone to get joy out of using it while it sat unused. It's funny because I went to a store and looked at the palettes, and there was the Stila in the know! I had money on me and It was beautiful, I almost grabbed it but instead ran out of the store! I had just given away in July the same kind, I'm actually proud of myself! Also went to the Sephora website last night and they have awesome new stuff, but I got out of there quick! I have lists and have goals until the end of the year, and wrote how much I had, and I love doing that too.My entire inventory of makeup plus lipbalms is 44 items! It feels so amazing......

      ThriftyBeauty no buys are def hard (/seemingly impossible) but it's all a mental thing. my weakness was nordstrom.com and i was checking the site several times a day to think of what i could buy; now i've basically told myself not to check, but i still do look at the site a few times a week. though now when i look at it, i don't have the urge to shop as much. it's kinda weird haha. good luck if you do one :) thanks so much for checking out my channel! it means a lot to me :) xo, megan

    I've created a spreadsheet for all my makeup and skincare. I track when I use something, how long it lasts, my thoughts and feelings when I wore/used it. It keeps me from wanting to purchase anything else as I'm disgusted with how large my stash is. I've placed myself on a "limit buy" and a "use it up" plan at the same time. I can only purchase 12 items and I have to use up 36 items in a single year. My goal is at the end of 2015 after 3 years of Project Pans, Using it Ups and Limited Buys, my collection will have shrunk by 50%.

    This video is full of great advice :) this is the first video I have ever seen from you. I think I will subscribe :) I have been doing my own project use it up on my body care and perfume collection because I need to declutter! I don't need 20 fine fragrance mists and body creams from bath and body works... Not necessary. I am more willing to have different makeup products because you need to have different products for different looks. But I don't need like 30 body lotions in the bathroom. And I have definitely had that many at one time before which is ridiculous because you only need one lotion at one time! Plus no one needs to hoard a bunch of beauty and makeup products. Thanks for the inspiration :)

    I strongly agree with the sentiment about just throwing out or giving away things you hate. I cannot tell you how many project pan vids I have watched where these poor girls are determined to continue trying to use up stuff that they hate or that is dried up/old. My thought is that, while you're still trudging through this nasty lipstick, a drawer full of lipsticks you actually love is getting that much closer to going bad.

      I double that. I don't understand the pan projects where women are using products and\or colours they hate. I think some analysis is required, as in why are you buying so much? Don't get me wrong, I have struggled with both excessive skin care and cosmetic purchases. I have tried the use up more before you can buy philosophy and then something happens so you either buy something to celebrate or make you feel better. The trick for me was to do some research and, as mentioned prior, analysis and figured out what I love and that is what I use (and use up). I

Its helpful because im a very visual person and sometimes I just like looking at my makeup. The 44 for items is also the individual eyeshadows in the paletts, not just the palettes themselves.I have 3 depotted eyeshadows as well. My nake basics palette color crave broke and I removed it because it was making a mess, so there's 5 in that, 9 in the too faced, 3 individual depotted shadows and 1 single shadow, so that's a total of 18! I have 10 Revlon Lipbutters and Project Panning one of them, 1 Revlon HD color in Primrose, Clinique Almost lipstick in Black Honey and my only lip pencil, wetnwild 666. Then the two cream blushes I will use for my lips, so that total is 13. I have 4 lipbalms and Panning one of them, I've been using it since June, then I lost it then found it again 3 weeks later. It's 2/3 done! and I have 2 concealers, 1 powder, 1 powder blush, a bobbi brown shimmer brick in bronze, 1 nude eye pencil, 1 clear mascara for my brows (I don't own mascara, just a really good curler the shu Umeura one)and that highlighter that I might give away, I used to own triple that, but it feels so good to just love everything!

    I'm watching your oldest videos because I wanna watch all of your videos because you are one of my current favorites in youtube. And I have a little problem with shopping clothes. I don't really buy a lot of make up, I only buy a mascara when I run out etc, I don't use blush, bronzer, highlighter anything fancy like that so the only product in make up that I like to buy is lipsticks. But I do have a problem when it comes to H&M and ebay. I've made myself go through no buys but I've realized in the end they didn't really do what I wanted them to because at the end of the no buy, I was like dying to buy more things and spend money. So now, I decided I only have 20 euros a month to use on clothes, excessive make up, candles etc, anything that I buy just because. I'm not counting necessities on it because that's just not realistic. I feel like this will actually make me choose things more carefully and not just buy something because I think I'll like it. Also, now that's summer is coming up, I'm putting money aside, so I can buy summer clothes a bunch at one go and I'll have that money saved up from my other shopping. Omg, this comment is so long haha. Your videos are really inspiring ♥

    I strongly agree about just throwing things away. My beauty products have two ultimate purposes.. to make me look/feel better, and to make me happy. If they are not doing one of those they go.. period. Why anyone suffers through something that does not work or they hate is mind boggling for me.
    I don't really understand project pan's or similar. First, I want to enjoy what I'm using and like the variety not be forced to use the same thing over and over until I'm sick of it.. and second I really love some of my products (powder formats especially last for years without expiring) and see no reason why I would want to plow through them.. I see them as investments. I'm going to spend $50 on this nice shadow palette and get to use it for the next three years. I get a lot more pleasure from wearing a specific blush just because that's the one I want to wear vs. it being the one I have to use all month. What is more important to me is not buying so much in the first place. Key for that for me is keeping my reciepts, only buying from places that allow returns, and returning it if I do not love it. Go ahead and try that new product.. but take it back if it cannot replace the one you already have... if it's better either use up what you have left of the old one or throw it out. That said I collect eyeshadows.. it's a hobby and it makes me happy. There is nothing wrong with collecting as long as you are in control and not collecting everything. It's no different than someone who collects Hello Kitty or seashells. Just pick one particular thing and focus on that.
    If you really want to go on a no-buy the best thing to do is first physically avoid temptation.. don't go where the makeup is. If to replace something go straight to it.. and leave without browsing the aisles. You may even consider ordering it online so you can avoid the store completely. Second stop watching hauls, reviews, or anything else that brings new products to your attention. Third unsubscribe from any mailing lists, FB likes, etc from manufacturers or retail stores. You might also want to unsub from beauty bloggers and YT channels. If you want to see a tutorial or find out about a specific product you can do a search and see just the info you need. When you are no longer bombarded with the constant advertising (and yes.. hauls and such are advertizing, why do you think companies are sponsoring YT'ers?) you will find it much easier to be happy with what you have.
    Finally if shopping, spending, researching etc for makeup is your hobby.. find another one to fill that space. Pick up a book series or TV show, a craft or art project, an outdoor sport.. something to fill your time. Bonus points if it does not require frequent purchases and/or improves your health.
