Finally! It's a little late but I think it's safe to say I've smashed this one :D
This time round I'm joined by fellow CZcams guitarist Chris Jones, and my Shadowrise co-guitarist Daniel Boomsma... those of you wondering if I'll have time to keep this channel going as well as play an active roll in Shadowrise, have no fear! The tables have turned, and I've managed to rope them into my own stuff... maybe expect more cameos in that department in the future ;)

This has long been a cover I've wondered about doing (and indeed, one that's been requested on multiple occasions), and I had a couple of technique hurdles to overcome before I'd be able to pull it off (no prizes for guessing where...). Thankfully, a couple of Shadowrise songs on our upcoming debut album actually required me to fix my technique in order to be able to play *them*, so with that done, there was nothing holding me back ;) Rhythm guitars are really fun for this one, though there's some trickiness going on in the bridge before the solo...
Turns out it's a lot harder to do screams on camera than it is to do cleans! When all the videos are of "the final take", it's got to be perfect the whole way through... and screaming uses up much more breath so I found myself gasping for air at the end of some of the lines... Didn't help that I was running around and flinging my hair all over the place either, but I had to get the blood flowing :D
Jackson SL3MG for all my guitar lines, SM58 for vocals, and the Fender Jazz Bass for those low tones once again. Cover also features my first public use of the Metal Machine EZDrummer library, and it's definitely an improvement, and vital for the blast beats. Trusty Triaxis tones through my Axe Fx II as usual (getting that powerful quad-tracked "duggadaduggada" in the fast palm-muted sections), and Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra, Blanchet Harpsichord and my Korg microX for orchestrations.

REGR1T you should do some covers over the original track and some others re-recording all the instruments, like this one. That way you can update your channel constantly. Anyway, I’m looking forward to see your next cover, if you take requests, you should do some Forest seasons \m/

Sophomore year of high school 2006 was the first time I listened to Wintersun and I listened to this song and entire album on a burned cd that I downloaded from lime wire on the bus going to school in the morning. I love wintersun, they spark so much emotion in me! Love "The Forest Seasons" too! Awesome cover look forward to more by you!!

@@NeverusBand I just looked at your past uploads and I'd say about 75% of the songs are personal favorites of mine, i.e. you have great taste haha. You're obviously a perfectionist, and your covers are killer. Do you compose at all?
I would say you have great taste as well then ;) yes I do compose! I had a solo album about 1/2 done when I joined Shadowrise, but have since focussed more on the band. Only joined in time to tweak and record for our debut full-length (not much writing), but that's all changing with our in-the-works 2nd album... Demos are sounding gooood ;)

Yessss I'm a big fan of the kind of "non-organic", "definitely-played-on-a-keyboard" strings of old-school ensi :D "true orchestrations" definitely have their place but these ones can feel a bit more raw and powerful in the right setting ;)
For the old Ensiferum, those were perfect. "Orchestrations" or even TRUE orchestrations are not for everybody especially nowadays when many bands use them just to sound more "epic". Wintersun is a massive exception though.
Yeah I'm personally not a fan of this new trend. Give me old-school Nightwish/Blind Guardian/Ensiferum over a real orchestra any day ;)

Yup, back on the vocals as well - Laura (Shadowrise) has given me a bit of advice in that department... I almost wish I could go back and fix all the stuff I did wrong in my old covers... especially And Then There Was Silence, which could really have done with less falsetto and more head voice... but ah well, it's done now :D

Although I don't see mistakes in your elder/previous covers, I'm glad that you can see your mistakes and yourself improving. That's a good sign for a musician and shows how professional you are.

Yusss it's a fantastic album, I'm very happy to be part of it :D A slightly different style to the EP but still definitely the same sound / band.
Mmm I wouldn't say there are necessarily "mistakes" in the form of "wrong notes" in my previous covers, but definitely a hell of a lot of things that could have been done better... Into Battle, for example, is full of rhythm guitar string noise (that squeaking sound), and the timing is not at all tight on the main triplet theme (many guitars out of sync with each other), and the palm-muted tone isn't very dynamic/duggada etc... so I guess it's more that I know what I want it to sound like / what it *could* sound like... and it doesn't :D
