This is the first card that I’ve had broke apart, what has been your experience with memory card. Have your CF Express card ever failed/broke?
So far none of my XQD or CFe cards have been a problem - but I only have 30 or so.
I had much more failures from SD cards - until recently I had a jar full of failed SD cards ...🦘
I had an SD card self destruct. Never an XQD. I don't currently use CFe cards. Canon R7 takes 2 SD. In all the years I've used SD (dating back to my first DSLR Nikon D5100) I've only had one fall apart. When I go on a big trip or am going on some "once in a lifetime" shoot I get new cards and keep the current ones for back up and toss the previous backup cards. Expensive for CF-e but not so much for SD.
@@JeffandLeslie That's nice that it uses the less pricey cards. My cards are overkill, I know but I tend to get the good stuff and keep them for years. Depending on what I'm doing, I may just have the 1TB CF Express in, didn't have a backup before but, now I do.
@@waynerm002 Even with my D500, which had XQD as the primary and SD as the secondary, I shot RAW to the XQD and JPG to the SD card. If one or the other cards decided to quit I always had a backup. On the Canon, I use UHSII cards in 1 and 2 and shoot RAW and video to card 1 and JPG to card 2. Also, I use 15fps not 30. For what I shoot 30fps is overkill and I don't want to wade through that many images at the end of the day. I think everyone has a slightly different workflow. If I had to buy $500+ CFe cards, I'd be a little less loose with tossing them just because they have had a lot of cycles. Nice part of SD cards, even the UHSII ones, after about 20,000 shots on the card, I don't feel bad tossing it and replacing it. Really glad AngleBird sent it to your new address.
@@JeffandLeslie Something strange is going on with card prices lately. I'm seeing V90 SD cards priced higher than equivalent CF Express type B cards. The OWC 256GB CFE 4.0 card I showed in my video about the 4.0 reader is $169 ($150 in HK) on Amazon, a Sony 256GB V90 card with 300MB/s Read and 299MB/s write was almost $400. On Amazon, they don't have the 256 GB listed but the 128GB is $209, A SanDisk 256GB V90 is $209. The 1TB Angelbird AV Pro SE, replacement unit I got, is on Amazon for $299.
These cards are much faster than SD cards, doesn't make sense why they are selling at these "low" prices. Weird. Prices are just all over the place these days.
Yikes! That is a nightmare having parts of a card stuck in the slot. Glad you got it out. The cards can be awkward to pull out, but I never had one break on me physically.
I had invalid files on CF-Express, CF-cards and SD-cards going completely invalid.
Angelbird and Lexar cards had corrupt files. Given the amount of data pushed onto the card, a flipped bit might happen and I do not care or mind a whole lot. Corrupt SD-cards like with Sandisk or Transcend however really give me a bad day.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi Martin, thanks for watching and sharing your experience. I’ve been noticing some errors when transferring files from my SD card recently and have seen the camera saying it’s not recognized when I insert it. I’m hoping it doesn’t fail. I’ve reformatted it in the camera and on my computer but still get the message at times.
good service Angelbird ,
Yep!
glad it worked out for you.
So am I! After the camera getting hot during setup here and not being able to use it for live streams, this was just another thing that had me concerned. Happy Angelbird came through and was willing to send to Thailand instead of purchase address.
No issues with Express B yet, but I rarely take the cards out.
This is my first time as well. I sold my lower capacity cards with the Z6 II and kept this one in anticipation of the Z8. Happy the replacement unit can handle all the codecs.
I wonder if the warning from the Z8 with Hot Card might of baked your first card. But you got an upgrade which is great. I own the Delkin Black 512gb CFExpress Type B card and the 512gb Pro Master 512gb UHS IISD card and have had no problems. Yet, anyway. Cheers!
Maybe. When I had the Z6 II, I used the Ninja V to record my talking head videos. I started using the Exascend Essential more as it could handle all the Z8 recording modes and it’s been a few months since I tried the Angelbird. I’ll need to get a new SD card since the one I have is acting up.
That happened to me on a Sony XQD card the plastic part busted off
John, I was so worried when I tried putting in another card and it would not go in. Once I saw that piece in there, I was worried I had to send the camera in for repair. Took a bit to get the plastic piece out. I’ve had multiple XQD and CF Express cards for years, this is the first time one broke on me.
This happened to me as well. I posted a video on my channel about it a while back.
Hi David, was it an Angelbird card as well?
@@waynerm002 yes
@@dmootzphotography Watched your video and posted on it. Kind of a bummed, your damaged version is the one I got as a replacement. Hope it lasts.
