- Ukraine says it has recaptured ground in Bakhmut, a rare advance after months of grinding Russian gains in the eastern city.
Deputy Defence Minister Hanna Malyar said Ukrainian forces advanced two kilometres (1.2 miles) in a week.
Moscow state military bloggers have also reported the Ukrainian advances.
Russia has denied reports of Ukrainian gains, after the claims from both sides.

@@GodKitty677 i've done some digging and by looking at sources on youtube from either side and neutral, the only confirmation i've found is the trench north west of bakhmut taken back by Ukraine, and some fields near the canal west of bakhmut. But at the same time, Wagner have taken a few blocks of buildings in Bakhmut city. So, it's basically minimal gains. Certainly not 2km or they would be inside the middle of bakhmut or at least flanked it.

Of course I would love to see a massive land recovery from the upcoming counteroffensive and I would like to see it tomorrow but I think it is better to not put too much pressure on the Ukrainians to deliver quick results because of the aid our nations have sent them. Safety for their troops comes first and lasting results are better than quick results. Let them decide what they need to do and when they need to do it. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦
One should not hope that Ukraine will be able to liberate all the lands in one breakthrough, in my opinion the main goal of the counteroffensive is to cut the land road to the Crimea, and then it depends on the situation, it is quite possible that the Russians will retreat all the way to the Crimea.

We supported Ukraine with a lot of weapons and they have slight advantage now, but we have to remember that Russians also produce their weapons and mobilize new soldiers. If Ukrainans don't use this advantage to lauch a counteroffensive then for the West it is a signal to push Ukraine to end the war even at the cost of concessions(i.e. by stopping supplies)- no one wants this war to prolong and support it forever, and the existence of sovereign Ukraine is not threatened at this point.
