Yeah it seems to be the case with these sessions. Then on live performances he's really inconsistent. Not sure what going on there, maybe different acoustics might easily distract him?
are you comparing 90% of the artists with John? Cause man i've seen some impro in my time and let me tell you, 99% of those lads shouldn't even be allowed to tie the mans laces, i mean sure it's not that hard a thing to do if you have some feeling for rhythm but are you seriously claming that 90% of artists can jam the way John does?
Daniel Fazio Most artists "improv" by playing licks they jam at practice sessions or rotate various licks every couple of shows. Since nobody is there for every moment of every show it typically goes unnoticed and even seems like true improv to the avg listener. There's nothing new under the sun.The reason for variations or "improv" is usually due to the boredom you eventually get playing the same song every single night. Changing things up keeps it a little fresh and fun. Also, in the moment you can just get a vibe and really get into a groove. Luckily there are so many scales and variations in the key you're playing that you could change up something every night for 20 yrs and It would still just barely scratch the surface. If you enjoy improv, Trey from Phish is a genius virtuoso wizard of improv, as is Frusciante of course.
I was surprised that Flea has a shirt on. 😃 I saw them lastbsunmer in Mannheim, Germany with Iggy Pop abd Mars Volta. I love all of them much. And John Frusciante is one of my biggedt influences on my guitar playing. 😊
John plays with just raw emotion. Just watch him play the solo on Californication, his face says it all. Less is more, he's a great example of that. Definitely my complete inspiration to play guitar and make music.
Disintegrated by the rising sun, I’m rolling blackout of oblivion... Gives me chills every time. All of their lyrics are so multidimensional and unique. There will never be a band as organic and spontaneous as them. They are perhaps the first and last of their specie
I love how at their age at this time in 2006, they looked fucking young. Like seriously, its not everyday you see ppl over the age of 40 look as good as these cats. Damn man, they fire. I'm a guy - straight - but I always admire how Anthony looks, seriously man he looks good.
Vocals and backing vocals throughout this set are absolutely beautiful - such gorgeous and unusual harmonies, really creative ideas carried out with style, originality and attention to detail. Most rock bands simply don't bother with this, do they? I guess that's partly why RHCP stand out as being special.
One of their greatest performances. Anthony is right in tune, Flea and Chad sound fantastic and John is on fire both on the guitar and vocals! Gosh do I miss John! I can never recover...
I miss John Frusciante. He's such a sick guitarist and he wrote a lot of the vocals melodies for RHCP. im sure most ppl have, but che k out "Murderers" by just John Frusciante. it's such a cool song. it's was in the Girl "Yeah Right" skateboarding video back in like '04. Noone sounds quite like him or like RHCP in general. He sounds like Jimi Hendrix, but also with his own awesomeness haha.
Los cambios constantes de sonido que hace Frusciante son para aplaudir de pie... un grande entre los grandes... y como si fuera poco, tremendos coros... juju!
that part 'I'll - with the brids i'll share this lonely view' them singing it with Flea and Frusciante also is just genious. It sounds awesome. Like best thing ever.
megamania501 what's even cooler is that when he left, he gifted the guitar to Josh Klinghoffer so even now when Californication is played live, they use that guitar. Josh makes it sound great as well!
Creator13 sorry to inform, but if you watch the rhcp rig run down by premier guitar, the guitar tech says that the guitar josh uses for californication and otherside is "the white chicken" not john's gretsch white falcon.
45ounce yes,I Wanted to ask this informartion 'cause 5 Minutes ago I read an interview and john talks about the location where they recorded bssm and stadium arcadium too and he mentioned the fact there was a parachute on the ceiling and I remembered this video

John & Anthony's voices together are so compatible,it's my favorite sound ever. John is the master of backup vocals. love him so much :)

v0odoochild he means Anthony
Trifecta hahahahaha
Such a great Californication.
This might be my favorite rendition of the guitar solo in Californication. John just has a way of stinging the soul when he improvises like that
This was probably the prime of their career…who ever got to see them live around this era got to witness utter gold.
John F improvises solos - great player wonderful feel and soul
playing wow and listen to these songs...my childhood
the end of californication, John has always put so much emphasis on it and shows so much emotion. great session!!

I wish they had one camera on John the whole time, just to be able to watch his technique. One of the tightest bands ever

Looks like he’s turning off his Wah and his Ds-2 at the same time to the make the solo end cleanly haha. Nice
love them, great live performance!
great little gig. very chilled.
I love how they all start with so many clothes on and then are basically naked by the end.
LOL
Except Chad lol he don't do the topless no more
One more song and they would be only with socks on his cox

I think I have a problem I've listened to this whole thing like every other day for over a year or so.. lmao damn I love this band
And what's now? )))
Anthony and John sound like two siblings fighting in the chorus of Desecration Smile
Man this studio session is just so groovy and hard-hitting
awesome session.. !
i think that's the best John's performance in terms of backing vocals. his and Anthony's voice blend perfectly in this gig

only John have the ability to completely change californication's solo and still sounds magically great!
"Serenade by the red hot birds" could be named this video, paraphrasing the Desecration Smile lyric. Very intense the interpretations here

"welcome to the heaven that you've created" - Frusciante to God.
Damn, that yellow semi-hollow body (Gretsch?) on Californication sounds friggin' sweet! John knows how to get tone, that's for sure

If I had 1/1000 of John Frusciantes guitar skills I would be the second best guitar player
He plays a lot of his barre's with thumb over the top, giving the pinky room to flick about everywhere
started the show looking like a funky jazz band to looking like 1989 red hot chili peppers
