RIP Herb Brooks and Pat Quinn, two amazing hockey minds
Yes
Wayne Gretzky is such a badass he didn’t accept a gold medal cause “”it’s an honour for the players””
No, he didn't get one because only athletes are awarded with medals.
But it goes on his resume?
What a glorious Olympic hockey moment for us Canadians! We've certainly had a few in the past 12 years! Thanks for posting this awesome reminder of one of our best Olympic Moments! #HockeyIsOurGame
ikr
When you mean to watch a few minutes but then watch the entire thing
Tell me about it, haha
I know exactly what you mean!
this was the biggest game since 1972 game 8 .
Jarome Iginla, what a hero!
the Canadian women team also won gold that year i believe, mmm yes they did
2002 or 2010? They are both incredible moments that I cannot describe and am just grateful I got to see both
Gorgeous, thank you!
Sad pat Quinn died
The QF game Sweden - Belarus is the one I remember. :D
3:53 I never knew that the semifinal game between Canada and the Czech Republic is sometimes called the greatest game in Olympic hockey.
It's not. Not even close.
I agree. Just surprised that other people said it was.
The survey must have been in the Czech Republic
It wasn't the greatest game but Hamrlik's cross-check on Fleury from behind was the greatest cross-check in Olympic hockey.
@@RpGfreak901 It was a very dramatic game though. It depends on the point of view. There were not previous olympics with all the NHL star players before the Nagano tournament, and this game was maybe the best one in Nagano (the other semi-final was wery entertaining and great too, with 5 goals of Bure, as well as the 1/4 final Cze vs. U.S., where Hasek was just incredible, or the group game Can vs. U.S.). Overally, it was a great tournament in Nagano with a lot of great players in their prime (Hasek, Pavel Bure, Selanne, Jagr, Roy, Forsberg, Lindros, Modano,...) and everyone wanted to win it as it was not 100% sure there would be another olympics with the NHL players. The czechs had Hasek and Jagr (one can say, that guys ruled by the end of the 1990´s) and the entire team played well, Canada was the front-runner (with Roy, Lindros, Sakic - not playing against the czechs, Gretzky, Yzerman, MacInnis,... a fantastic squad).
It wasn't a drought. . Hockey canada boycotted the Olympics because the Russians were sending professionals(red army players)they were disguised as amateurs because they were in the military but they never did anything but play hockey... the russians have admitted this... if Canada did send a team itnwiuldnt be any good because are best players go to the pros
+Daniel Porter What you said about the Russians is true, but keep in mind at the same time period that the US won twice, and Sweden and the Czech Republic won once.
We could have won in 1994 except the Swedes apparently tied it with 2 minutes left and Forsberg won it in the shooutout.
We could have won in 1998 when we had NHL players if not for the Dominator.
So some of the 50 year (not all) is legitimate to label as a drought.
The Soviets dominated cause it wasn't fair... a couple other teams got lucky a few times in 50 years... Canada was not one of those teams
Daniel Porter That's totally right, could you imagine the superstars with had in hockey those decades playing in the Olympics, the list of greats is unbelievable, we would of won most of the golds. We proved it in the 72 summit series, through together a bunch of stars in a month. And don't forget the Canada Cup, best of the best, we dominated that.
12:20 SUPER Mario!
Did my eyes just fool me? Wayne Gretzky did not wear the „C“ on his jersey, not even an „A“. Can someone please explain this to me?
Bobby Clarke, the GM for Canada in '98, trying to save face with his Flyers luvvy Lindros.
17:10 "Who's the left side? We need a left winger... we need a left winger."
Is this what's it like on the bench? I never realized...
That's what its like in beer league...
Go canada go
No spoilers

Amazing how today, the teams would be made up of players sooooooo much younger
Sure, I understand that day was a VERY big day for Canada. But, in terms of a Miracle, this does not come close to the 1980 USA VS Soviet Olympic Game.
We never said it was a miracle, we don't need miracles.
Another good day was the last day of the Olympics in 2010, and 2014...
Agreed...as far as Olympic hockey is concerned, the 1980 Miracle On Ice in Lake Placid will probably never be matched.
It was a group of unknown college kids up against highly skilled Soviet players who trained together 11 months of the year during the Communist-era and very rarely (if ever) lost a hockey game.

That's exactly what is was a miracle, no talent what so ever. Like winning a lottery, no skill involved. Canada doesn't hope for miracles, we are hands down the most gifted hockey nation in the world. Our record says it all.. Olympics, 72 summit, Canada Cup, World Cup, World Jr's. And for you Americans, nothing beats the 72 Summit series, nothing!!!!
