  • Birds are magical. The variety of species. Always calling and singing. In Kuhmo, Finland, wildlife photographer Markus Varesvuo is listening and capturing images.
    Join Markus in the woods as he waits for the right moment to capture birds. Equipped with the new Canon EOS 90D, he shows you how he uses the camera. A lot can happen in a second, so you've got to be ready. The 32.5 megapixels of the EOS 90D allow you to really focus on the details and an 32.5MP APS-C sensor gives lenses 1.6x the telephoto reach they would have on a full-frame camera - making it ideal for wildlife and sports photography.
    And then 'the bird man' sees a bear...

    Superb quality still images and video footage...As a Canon user, I'm definitely thinking of getting the 90D...Love the fact that it's 32Mp, so cropping will prove no problem and the 10 fps is great for wildlife in general (plenty fast enough imo)...and a point not to forget is that because it is a crop-sensor camera, you are going to get a longer reach, which is also going to be a plus with wildlife, and indeed lots of other scenarios...and 4K video!.... A great camera for birds/wildlife in general and any action photography, but will also be a solid all-round camera, great for most styles and situations.
    Now all I have to do is save up.

    Does it have a silent shutter mode setting? Nice to be able to turn off all camera sounds, especially when shooting wildlife. Birds are more easily spooked with noises, and without turning off that shutter sound you could lose some shots by frightening the birds off. If it doesn't have it, could that be a firmware update?

    I am asking witch camera this man will choose 90D or M6 Mark II if he wants to shoot wildlife with accurate AF in higher F numbers like F8 and F11? I know the DSLR's will need micro-adjustment when using TC. Even like that, the mirrorless will give you better AF performance, clear images, and the ability to shoot even above F8 with accurate AF. The only advantage for the 90D is better battery life the live viewfinder and the weather sealing body.

    I use a 90D with a 300mm 2.8 II lens, often with 2x extender. I would like to ask couple questions - 1) Any reason not to shoot in CRAW vs RAW? 2) Does UHS-II card help with clearing the buffer quicker for more burst shots? With CRAW and auto ISO, I am able to get up to 24 on UHS-1 card, but after the first 24 I almost have to wait for buffer to clear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @soak000
      @soak000 Před 3 lety

      @Coo Koo I upgraded to a UHS II card at write speed of 260MB/s and it clears the buffer much quicker. I have been shooting in CRAW like many other Canon users and it seems to be just fine as opposed to raw. Obviously Canon Europe doesn't monitor this thread or it's not worth their time responding.

    I prefer the 7 D mii the ergonomic's and controls are for me so much better. Plus the weather sealing and it's built like a tank. 10 fps and fast accurate all cross type focusing points.
    I use two 7 d mii bodies. The pixel pitch is better than the other crop bodies that have more megapixels.
    7d mii at 4.08um pixel pitch.
    90d at 3.19um pixel pitch.
    Light capture detail and noise look better in my opinion. That's more important to me than more megapixels. I can cover a two page magazine shot or a high quality calender with an image from a 7 d mii.

    Hi there, I am deciding between 7d mark 2 and canon 90D. Some of the reviews about 90d saying it have issue with af tracking and some saying the lack of single af point is an issue while photographing small birds with some branches, vegetation around them. It seems to me that you don't have that problem and even I noticed that your 90d used only 2 af point in your video at least in one occasion. Could be possible to explain where is the true. I am willing to do birds mainly and lot of them is going to be in the flight. I just don't want to make wrong decision by getting the 90d instead of the 7d mark ii. Many thanks on advance.

    • @Mkondvar
      @Mkondvar Před 3 lety

      Hi. Sorry for my English. But I hope u will understand. In my opinion the 90D it's not best for flying birds. Mostly times have problems with Af and most time it's a only few photos in focus from 20 photo's for example. Anyway I have only tamron 150-600mm g2 so I don't test it with expensive lenses, will probably work better i don't know. But after 4 month's I can say I have to sell 90D and order for Christmas R6 for better low light conditions, full Frame, so much better autofocus etc. In my opinion go for 7Dmark2 lot of people's compare these two cameras and they say 7D it's a better like 90D

    • @challow90221
      @challow90221 Před 3 lety

      Marek Kondvár there is like only 15% of wild life photography where the 90D is (not useless but,) inefficient. Anytime you want to shoot at an iso higher then 32k or you need auto focus to fill 100% of the viewfinder this is where you’ll run into a few problems. That’s why you get a variable ND filter and you compensate with Manuel and centered autofocus. outside of 65 point AF feature ...it has a better continues burst. In my opinion i prefer the 90D over the 7D mk2 overall.

    • @borispradel1037
      @borispradel1037 Před 4 lety

      @@christopherwood1668 Have you tried them both? Do you know the 90D buffer-clearing speed? It's not just speed but clearing the buffer is essential. Besides the 7d MKII has dual processors, dual card slots and better ISO than 80D (I have them both and tried them side by side), 65 cross type focus points that reach the sides of the sensor (not so in the 90D). Weather-sealed body (1DX MKII standard)....besides more pixel density in the same sensor size means more noise at higher ISO. That's the reason Sony 7S II is just 12 megapixels.

      Marie-george Lavaurs dont do it. If you do get a 7D be sure to get the mark ii. The draw bacc is that its less successfully in the video department (no 4K or 120p) when compared to the 90D but you all so get 65point autofocus with continues burst (compared to 45 point non-all cross type and a throttled burst after about 30 shots). If they did come out with a mark 3 it would only be worth it if it where mirrorless (imagine an R7/R7D but with full frame specs). Hope i was able to help.

    As an amateur photographer who uses Canon 70D (and Canon EF 300mm f/4L IS USM) the update to 90D would be nice. However, as in many, many marketing campaigns such as this one, the focus is somewhat misleading the viewers. When talking about bird photography and those nice close up photos of the birds, what really matters is the objectives (sure, you still need a capable camera). Immediately as I saw the video's images and the objectives it had, it was clear that those play a bigger role here in terms of end results (and of course the capabilities of the photographer). When you go and see what other equipment was utilized beside the Canon 90D (with a price range around 1000-1300€) you see that there is the expensive Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM Lens (worth more than 14 000€!) and then there is the Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens (similar price range, ~14 000€!) so both these are worth well over 10x the camera price. My point is that when people see these bird photos and the only thing you are mentioning is the camera, it will mislead people quite hard. Sure, you will get nice photos in good light conditions and close to the objects or scenery photos, but not birds photos. Hope this helps other bird-photographer-wannabes with a slightly smaller budget.

      Btw 100-400mm on the leica is a 200-800 full frame equivalent fov. That extra 200mm could make the difference.

    I am focusing more on wildlife photography, have been using 80D for the whole 2 years. the feature which means 10 fps is on par with Nikon D500. however, i am worried that the tracking is not so fantastic, not to just compare with sony A9. some of my subjects is small and fast like the common kingfisher. i am not sure why the focusing point is only (45). VS Nikon D500 (153). why Canon has not improve on that?

    If possible make an upgraded version of 7D Mark ii with some better features of Nikon D500 because 1DX Mark ii is too costly.

      @@newa..9570 I don't think you are a scientist or something like that you know only what companies tell you. I'm not a scientist but look the camera takes about 6100x4100 size images then it means 6k image in short if there is no crop for video that simpley means it's going to use full sensor . The only difference here is that sony always says 6k to 4k downscale but Canon not advertising that way.
      Also Sony making you fool becouse if you shoot at 30fps camera zooms in (1.3maybe) and it means it's no longer using full sensor. Then the fake 6k to 4k rule goes to junk. I Hope you understand.
