I wish this had an ending. It is such a great story so far and no ending drives me crazy.
I think dinky is a filly who's close to the princcesses, and that it was about a 1000 years ago, when luna turned into Nightmare moon. Dinky had something powerfull hidden in her bow, the elements of harming. She saw luna turn into that monster, and ran after her. Mightmare moon recognized her, and must have still loved her, to try and save her when she fell. The bow untied and the element was atracted to her horn, but dinky is a pony with a horn that doesn't work right. Something went her, and her own attack backfired on her. She tried to free luna. For some unknown reason, luna turned back, or it could all be just a dream. Luna felt compassion for dinky, and they had the same problems in life.

***** No, some were. The three top views from Canterlot, the stairs and the library were designed by us as the show didn't have a consistent design for Canterlot. I didn't want to trace over other fan projects, it would be cheating.
We revectored everything by ourself in fear that some of these vectors could have been stolen from DHX, they could take down our project for that.

Luna's voice and Dinkie's sound like their voices should be switched. Luna's voice really sounds a bit young for her age, no offense. I feel like Luna’s voice is too high pitched, not quite like her majestic, low voice in the show.
Of course I don’t expect anyone to sound the exact same as her, but I didn’t quite expect Luna to sound like she inhaled helium.

This was seriously one of the most creative and refreshing videos I have seen for this fandom in a long time. Tbh, I gave up trying to find one that sparked my interests. I am practically a Nightmare Moon/Luna worshipper, and finding an animation featuring said characters with any decent plot substance is disappointingly rare. This video stayed in my head for weeks after watching and I hope you'll reconsider its cancellation and continue.
Vorpent vs. Potato Don't worry, the project will return. We're taking our time on it because the story needs some tweaking and we're switching the animation to better tools.
What a relief! You can't rush art, I completely understand. I'll be eagerly awaiting the next installment!

damn those backgrounds! I love when fan animations really work to show the interior of the castle cause I don't feel like we get that enough in the show, it's always so intriguing. :)
I realize you all have been discouraged. I know there has been some negative response, some of which is justified, some of which has been blown out of proportion. But with each step of this project, things have improved. The first Project Thundercloud was clunky and plagued with technical problems and a nonsensical storyline. But then Part II cleaned up a lot, although it had its own fair share of problems and general cheesiness.
This one was on the verge of something being really great. The animation, the style, the sound, and quite a lot of other things were a huge improvement. Sure the VA choice wasn't perfect for Luna and some parts of this were a little confusing, but its easily the best entry in the bunch. If you've really decided to cancel Part 2, then that's of course up to you. But I'd say you've provided an excellent demonstration of your skills as a creator and given us all a wonderful history of how your work has evolved. It would be a shame to see this chronicle end so suddenly.
Good animation, but umm why was Dinky trying to attack Nightmare Moon? From what it seems Nightmare was trying to rescue her my saving her from plummeting to her doom, but ehh.

Aww man, I was hoping that the writing in this would be better than it is in the thundercloud, but it's just as, maybe more confusing... It still LOOKS spectacular, but sadly only on the surface. None of these characters have had the slightest introduction, so I don't even know why I should root or boo dinky... What even is the plot? I haven't even caught a clear glimpse of one besides "destiny"... I'm sure you guys could do better if there was more character development through mannerisms and interaction, because currently these characters don't seem... Real.
You'll just have to wait until part 2 to see the characters develop.
Jakeneutron I found this far easier to grasp than Thundercloud was, even though this evokes a similar amount of assumption and open interpretation on the viewer's part.
Much like a Hollywood blockbuster, the visuals are incredible but the story needs some work.

Minty Root would these issues prevent you from putting the story out in a different format? for example as a comic on deviantArt or as a fanfic on a site such as fanfiction.net? there is a really good story here and I would hate to see it go untold.

Now that's the kind of animation we need. This could be a better spin off than Equestria Girls. Dinky should have her own adventures along with Derpy and the other ponies, that would be a good spin off show.

This.. was confusing, and conflicted.
Art was simply amazing, the backgrounds are incredible, the camera work moving through them was amazing. The characters... were hit and miss, sometimes great others looking just enough off to hit uncanny valley. mostly in their motions. But still overall good.
The music.. also amazing.
The voice acting... not so good. As many others have said, Luna sounded WAY to high pitched and young, especially compared to the actual foal there. And, rather dull as well. Little emotion, inflection just... not good.
And the story... is the worst bit, mostly because "What story"? This was confusing, I have no idea what is going on, where half this stuff is coming from. Is this a sequel to the Thundercloud thing and it's mess of story issues?

Mr. Scott Yes, but just jumping into a dream like that, with no reason for it, no explanation for why she would be having a dream like this, what the story is going for. They both talked like there was established stuff leading up to this that was complexly absent, so what the hell is going on? Yeah it's a dream, but why? What does this have to do with anything? There is so little actually explained, or even set up in a way that makes sense.

John Roark Doesn't matter, this is what was presented, and as it is, it gives little reason to watch 'act 2'. The opening of your story needs to be something to make the audience want to watch the rest. this opening, was so confusing and made so little sense, it does little towards that.
No matter what this 'act 2' does, it does not change that what was presented was poorly made from a story perspective.
The art and music was beautiful yes, but the story was incredibly badly presented.
Note, not bad in and of itself, what it seemed to be going for, could be interesting, just the presentation of it was poorly handled.

It says 'act 1' in the actual video, and it does not do a good job of establishing the story like an 'act 1' should.
As a prologue, it does work better. But it was still confusing to follow what was going on and why. Yes I get it's a dream, but the story seemed to take several things for granted, as established fact, that the audience has no reason to know about.
Is what I think it was going for possibly interesting? Yes. But the execution of that idea could have been better implemented. Second the issues with the story stand out all the more, becuase of how amazing the art and music are. Showing a lot of time and effort and care was put into this, so the stuff that feels off stands out all the more.

Gorgeous animation! Wow a lot of work went into shading and stuff. I loved all of the unusual downward and up facing shots. It really accentuated the dreamy feel. Excellent symbolism with Dinky shattering her legs. I love the fanon that she has a broken horn and that Celestia deals with the future for fillies. I'd love to see where this goes!

What? Why?
It was announced 1 hour before I made that post/ It's cancelled because he got a whole lot of harsh criticism and just downright hate. Now you would think that shouldn't be enough but the drama that ensued amongst him and his colleagues was a whole lot worse. He originally put it on hiatus but just downright cancelled the project entirely only just last night. Also something about how the fandom always compares animations to the show and well he just didn't like the fandoms lashback.
Oh well. Personally this doesn't effect me because I don't know what the hell was going on after 1:30 in the video.

anyone who is not the owner of the crown harmonious element, when used will be repelled by the power of the element itself, this is a very important theorem in magic that not everyone know
I think that this animation is wonderful and the idea for the story would have made a great series for a fan animation but that it is held back by a few major problems. Keep in mind that I have never made an animation before and that I know it's really hard but I just feel like I should try to talk about the good and bad parts of this animation in as un-bias of a manor as I can. This is going to be pretty long so don't say I didn't warn you.
This animation starts off with Dinky Doo walking through the hallway of stained glass windows in the castle, and we are off to a good start. This walk down the hallway sets a good mood for this animation and we can see how hard the animator(s) worked on this. The backgrounds are perfect and they added a lot of small details that really go a long way in making the world around Dinky come to life, such as the flags in the background. Dinky gets to a door and tries to open it with her magic but fails, and story wise there is another plus. The story gets started quick, no filler or anything like in " Doubble Rainboom". Unfortunately this is where the problems with the animation start to show.
The main problem here (I think) is that Dinky is a powerful magic user,but her horn spirals clockwise as opposed to most unicorn's horns that spiral counter clockwise, and this is a great idea. Not only does Dinky's disability sound reasonable and fit into the realm of the show, BUT, it gives a lot of people something to relate to. A lot of people have disabilities that prevent them from doing something that they love or that they would be talented at. But the animation here is really a problem.
We don't learn until the END of the animation that this is the problem, and when we do learn it is explained to us with dialog. Animation is a very visual medium and you show, don't tell. You also need to explain what the main conflict is as early as possible, here having animation that just slightly varies from the show would have been a huge benefit.
When Dinky tries to open the door you can see her using what looks to be very powerful magic but her horn 'glitches' and backfires on her. Here is the problem, the art style doesn't allow you to see that Dinky's horn is different. Yes it is kinda visible but it's not obvious enough. Most people, including me, don't pay attention to how the horn spirals so even though it looks like you tried to show that her horn was different it didn't work. Because of this people can't tell WHY her magic doesn't work.
Dinky finally gets the door open and a small pink thing falls out. I have no idea what that's supposed to be and that's a problem, it never gets mentioned again and you never made it look like it was that important. Yes it is a bit nit-picky but you need to talk about things like that. When dinky looks out a window she see's that the sky is half day half night and she starts to freak out asking what's going on. Now we need to talk about the voice acting.
The voice actors are very talented and you can tell they tried very hard when reading their lines to sound as much like the characters as possible, but their voices just don't match. The best way I've heard this complaint worded is that Dinky sounds like an adult and Luna sounds like a kid. I feel like the voice actors could have been switched. Luna has a nasally sounding voice and that would really fit Dinky, and Dinky's voice actor could always try to do Luna's voice. I don't expect the voices to fit the show perfectly but the casting could have definitely been better.
Dinky finally see's Luna and asks her what's happening, and Luna flies away, so she goes running through the castle looking for her. Here is where I'm going to talk about a few other nit-picky problems with the animation. Dinky's bow sometimes doesn't look like it's attached to her head, rather that the bow is suspended in mid air above her and is just follows her. This is another really small issue that is extremely distracting once you notice it. Something else that bothers me is that when Dinky turns she turns very suddenly and there's no easing to it. Very small problems like that takes people out of the mood. If you can, in future projects, try to work on things like that.
Dinky opens another door and finds Nightmare Moon standing in the middle of the room. She gets scared and runs away leading to another seen like the one where she was looking for Luna. It seems kind of repetitive, like there wasn't a long enough pause between the two scenes. I don't know what I would have done to fix it though so I won't count it as much of a problem. A lot of the same animation problems as before but in one case I found that Dinky's bow was completely missing.
One thing that I loved about the scene though was the use of unusual camera angles. It shows that you really tried to do something different and unique and I LOVED it. However Dinky sometimes looks really awkward, as if the way she is running is not possible. It's an easy fix ,however, so try to work on it with future animations. Also that shot of Dinky running up the spiral staircase was absolutely amazing!
Dinky ends up outside and falls from the top of the castle leading to more cool shots as she falls down, however there are problems with the animation here too. Nightmare looks stale when she's flying around the castle and what with all the small detail that you put in I really would have expected her animations to be better. She flies into Dinky and I'm really confused about what happened. It seems like Nightmare got hurt but It just looks awkward and the animation on Nightmare just gets more stale and choppy.
Nightmare grabs Dinky with her magic and Dinky tries to fight her but her bow comes undone and the element of magic falls out. Again I feel like we could have seen the element of magic more at the beginning and that it could have been explained more. Dinky having the element of magic is just really confusing. The animation during this segment however is beautiful.
The element falls but then starts levitating above Dinky's horn and it transforms into the crown Twilight had when she was the element of magic. Dinky tries to fight Nightmare using the element but her magic backfires again and she hits herself. It would have been nice to see her horn glitch out again but that's not a big deal. When she gets hit it cuts to black and we hear dialog from a flashback.
Now, for the flashback I would have preferred it be animated instead of just dialog over a black screen. Apparently Dinky tried to pick up some kind of fragile object with her magic and broke it. Someone implied to be Derpy tells her that her magic is not mature enough yet. This could have been really emotional but the scene should have been animated.
After the flashback we see that the element of magic made Dinky shatter like glass and parts of her body lay about on the ground. This is extremely creative and I love it. It shows how insecure Dinky is about her magic and relates to how she's failed with it before. It has the potential to be sad but it's just not. Maybe if we had seen more flashbacks of her messing up or something it would have been properly built up but unfortunately that just didn't happen with this animation.
Luna ask Dinky about her worst fear and because I already talked about the voice acting I wont repeat myself here. Luna says it's a shame that a unicorn full of magic had to have a horn that didn't work right and she transports Dinky to the Celestial Plane. Luna tells Dinky about how she helps ponies face their insecurities by going into their nightmares or showing them their past or memories, but in Dinky's case this is not enough. Luna tells her that she can't help Dinky with her future because that realm belongs to her sister, and that makes a lot of sense. Celestia knew what Twilight's future was and Luna has shown Sweetie Bell parts of the past before so this is really plausible.
Now lets talk about exposition. Luna should have told Dinky about the Celestial plane. Dinky's dialog is very awkward and unnatural sounding and there is no reason for Dinky to know what the Celestial plane is. Again small details like that can make or break an animation's overall quality and this just makes everything silly and awkward in a situation that should be serious.
Luna tells Dinky that they are both similar because they both see the world differently and that really doesn't make much sense when you think about it. Luna see's the night differently than other ponies but Dinky doesn't see the world differently. If anything they both feel unappreciated.
Now the ending is what makes me feel like this had the potential to be one of the best fan projects ever. Luna tells Dinky the only way to help her is to take her into her own story and prepares to show her how she became Nightmare Moon. You could have done so many good things with this ,and it makes me sad the project got canceled. I feel like you canceled it because some of the things didn't fit with the shows cannon but that's a horrible reason to stop working on such a great project. You can tell a story that doesn't fit within the realm of the show. That's why we have A.Us. Look at WarpOut's "Lullaby For A Princess." It shows something different than what the show gave us and it's wonderful. You shouldn't stop being creative just because an idea goes against cannon as long as there's a reason and there is a very good reason here.
Again I've never made a fan project and I hope you're not offended by me talking about the flaws of this animation but I really feel there's a lot of lost potential here. I just hope you understand that I'm trying to critique you not insult you and I hope that something I said helps you to better yourself as an animator in the future. If you read through all of this, thanks.

the animation in insanely good.
It isn't. really. some parts look amazing and are extrmely well made. But with other paerts, the animation does not work with the background at all.
I wish they had simplified those parts, so it would work better.
Still. For animators who aren't working for mlp, this is good.

I'm referring to the bad vibes within the fandom that are more prevelant now than they were in the early days.
Because we've been treated to many fantastic works of art over the years, and due to the show itself stepping up in quality, newer fan stuff is looked at with much greater harshness and scrutiny from the fandom.
The creator of this video has gotten pretty upset because they spent months and months of hard work on this video, only to get a shitload of messages telling them it sucks.
People can criticize if they want, but what most people do these days isn't criticism. A lot of the time it's just "this sucks." Everyone has become harder to please now, and it sucks for content creators.
I guarantee that if something of this level came out a few years ago, barely anyone would be bitching at it.
But yeah, I'm not against criticism.
I'm against the negative leanings within the fandom that are creeping in and hurting content creators.

The background are pretty the character animation is decent. But my question is this.. Why would you get a 13 YEAR OLD with a high pitched voice to voice LUNA!? And get someone with a mature voice to voice DINKY?! The acting was horrible on Jennabun's part and I follow her (I even gave her criticism on her voice reels and she deleted my comments, isn't she a peach?). This sounds so half assed that someone with little to no acting experience could be a better Luna. Don't read your lines, kid. Act.them.out.
This is why you don't get CHILDREN to voice a character with a mature voice.
You get them to voice a little kid (dinky)! But this is honestly
Jennabun's worst performance, what exactly made her sit down and say "Hey! I can voice Luna!"? Or is it Minty Root saying "you sound like luna! omg!!" then casting her, not bothering to direct her? One word: Lazy.
How many auditions did you go through before you though "Wow! This little kid sounds like an amazing Princess of the night!". I am a huge Luna fan and a former voice coach, it's not just the voice inaccuracy it's that I don't feel Luna when I hear Jennabun's voice, I feel a little school filly playing with dolls of Luna and Celestia.
Voice Acting 2/10 (2 points for the voice actors who actually know how to act.)
Animation 6/10 (For the stunning backgrounds)
Music 7/10
***** I think she's a good voice actress. Though, everyone has their strong suits. I guess Luna just isn't one of hers. I wasn't in charge of the VAs for this, so I didn't know who was doing it or what it even sounded like until it was all done. I didn't even know till now that you voiced her originally.

So what did I think?
The music was pretty. The visuals were vibrant and enjoyable to look at. I didn't quite follow the plot, but this is only part 1, so I'm sure everything will make more sense once the series is finished. Though, your videos were always more on the artistic/abstract side, which isn't a bad thing.
Part of me feels like the VA for Dinky and Luna should have traded places, because Dinky's voice sounded a bit too mature, and Luna's voice sound a bit too high and youthful. Maybe that's just me being weird, but I found it a little jarring.
My only real complaint: did you have to do the audio in Audacity? I mean, you guys obviously have access to the Adobe Creative Suite in some form or another. Why not use Adobe Audition? I'm sure it would have been MUCH easier than dealing with Audacity.
ShalMusicFX Oh, Audacity was only used by me, and it didn't end in the final build anyway. I needed a way to convert some placeholder music to keep the mood of the story, and Flash couldn't take some of my files.
Minty Root It's cool. I'm just a stickler for audio stuff. And honestly, from what I heard, everything sounded nice and clean. Good recordings, nothing was "off", so that's awesome.
ShalMusicFX The quality of the recordings we're decent. .wav stuff. Though the Mic's both VAs used were both not super great. A lot of lines have a lot of background noise, but that's mostly hidden from reverb or other general isolation. Mixing wise, I used FL 11 and stock effects. Most of the music and audio mix were done on a 20 year old pair of grado sr60s. Though on the four days of production I got a pair of German, closed back, headphones. But honestly, in the end, all of Luna's lines were so quiet they are actually distorting, though I mostly fixed that with eq. I have no idea what software they used to track the lines in though. Hope that answers your question.

I had two problems with this animation. The first was Luna's voice, it just threw me off. No offense. The second was how such a little filly could know such big words. Like jeez. Other than that it was a good animation. well done.
The voice acting was fairly acurate to Luna, and have you never met a smart kid? Even better a kid who likes reading?
I've been a "huge" fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Because everything in "FIM" look alot like Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends mix together. I would like to see more of Dinky's Destiny Part 2; or maybe a full movie, with permission from Hasbro. Keep up the good work, Minty Root! :-)

I think that this is an amazing animation, and I for one, love the voices. I think Scribbler could have been an amazing candidate for Luna, but this is still an exceptionally amazing piece of artwork. Minty, thank you so much for the beautiful effort that you put into making this. I suppose that because someponies were extraordinarily rude when it came to expressing their opinions, I will have to imagine what the rest of the story is myself. I'm terribly sorry Minty. Thank you for what you have given us, and shame to those who dare to destroy what could have been an amazing series.

You did an excellent job on this, I love the visual effects and how smooth the animation is, although I would recommend giving Luna a deeper voice and adding in some sound effects, such as Dinky's running. Also, I'd like to ask, what is the title of the song in the intro? I realize you gave a source for it, but just the name of the creator is waaay too broad for me to find it.

Holly Berries I used Prelude from Distant Worlds Final Fantasy and Luna's theme from Sleepless in Ponyville as a reference when I was talking to Arcane about what the first scene would need so it might be that, but I also got people who told be it reminded them of Halo.

It's actually because she is having a dream. The rainbow hit her because her horn works backwards like when she wants a page to flip right it flips left in a book.Also she and the other new 5 ponies are the new elements of harmony because Twilight and her friends grew old and died. Nightmare Moon was put in a dream as an enemy but when Luna saw the dream she was having she tried to prevent her from falling.This is one of her fears of what will happen when she tries to defend herself.

Dear, Minty Root i'm so glad I found you because of Pikapetey. this is the first video I saw from you and i'm very impressed. there were only 3 things that the animation looked odd the rest was AWESOME. 4:08-4:12 the drop of the crown was off. In 5:37-5:42 the animation was slow played at 2 times speed it looked perfect. From 6:25-6:39 the Luna walking looks off I have no idea why. anyway i'm going to see more from your Channel. thanks for this great animation. everything else was great. thanks so much!

Ok guys so this is to help yall out. What is happening in the story is Dinky is in the castle, and sees Nightmare Moon, who causes her to fall off a bridge. Then, as obvious as it is, it isn't real, because Dinky isn't really broken. What happened was Luna joined on of the dreams of Dinky, which Luna does to often teach a lesson. She takes Dinky to the same place Twilight went to become and alicorn, and tell Dinky that normal ponies just need a dream to be taught, but Dinky needs more than that
