      I was told "Treat your puppy or dog like a two or three year old child". It works, dogs cannot verbalise human words but they have an intrinsic understanding of the difference between praise and admonishment from their pack leader.
      i once had the privilege to know two sheltie puppies from birth, they were so small that one could sit on my outstretched palm! When we played and they bit me with their razor sharp teeth I emitted a high pitched squeal just like their littermate.
      When they were nine weeks old I started to teach them basic obedience, importantly a loud *"NO!"*; when they were about to do or eat something unacceptable. Most amazing was that I was able to teach them their names, e.g. "Mov 'stay, Hash come or visa versa. With a slck lead or without a lead they were both excellent at 'walking-to-heel', wrapping their heads around my calf. Unfortunately I never managed to overcome their fear / anger at cats!

I had never trained a dog before, and I trained my sister's dog solely by reading a book about dog training. I don't remember, but I probably read more than one book !!!! This was in the 1970s and I am now 63 years old. THAT'S why I don't remember !!!!
      I don't know if it was because Casey (my sister's dog's name) was a VERY smart dog and she was VERY easygoing that she was soooo receptive to her training, but she learned VERY quickly !!!!! She never forgot what to do either. ALL of my pets were easy to train . I had Casey,my hamsters,and my gerbils that I trained and they ALL did well !!!!!! I wish these episodes weren't censored. I know that this isn't the platform for this statement, but I feel it necessary, there are far worse things on CZcams that aren't being censored that are far more detrimental to people than needles and watching a dog getting a rock safely removed. I wish the front office of CZcams would get their acts together and realize that these types of shows are educational and a necessity for those looking to become veterinarians themselves. They (CZcams execs) would much rather align themselves with filth and grotesque things than wholesome, educational programming. Sad i. My eyes. Again, I'm sorry for using this comment section for this, but it needed to be said. I love you Bondi Vet.

Ask any teacher- work with a difficult child without looking at them. Chat. But let them lead. Out it all comes and then they can be supported. Some schools are very good at that, with amazing results.

    I'm not sure this is the way you should feed a weak swan... they can aspirate if you just shove it in, tube feeding usually is the way to go. They also can't handle all foods in such a weak state so the food should be energy rich and easy to digest, hence the tube feeding. These are just my experiences from rescueing birds and talking to other rescuers.

    • @melmoomlem7321
      @melmoomlem7321 Před 2 lety

      Isnt it hard for adult birds to aspirate foods that aren't liquid? Because they'll just swallow it? Forgive my ignorance but I was under the impression that as long as you aren't pouring liquid in their mouth that it was fairly safe?

    • @libbygardner3021
      @libbygardner3021 Před 2 lety +1

      Tube feeding is even more stressful for the bird than a one-time finger feeding-I’ve assisted tube feeding trumpeter swans suffering from lead poisoning, and it’s very stressful. I’m sure the vets know what what they are doing.

    • @batfurs3001
      @batfurs3001 Před 2 lety +2

      Idk what kinda rehab you work for but I've never seen anyone tube feed an adult bird that's still conscious. Force feeding by just shoving it in there works perfectly fine, they swallow out of reflex. It's liquids you have to be careful with, solid foods they won't aspirate.
