Hats off to your research sir and a very interesting video. I have seen people from Sri Lanka tamils and even down south criticising the Madras Language. But you made it very clear and explained it so nice 👌🏻
And truly said for anything to survive, it has to adapt to the changes. That's what the Madras slang did. And Madrasians definitely know the original word for these foreign words and mostly use these for convenience or for fun or only at places necessary.

Beauty is that in those days even rickshaw walas spoke english better than tamil. No match for our chennai previously madras. In general all south Indians were called by the name madarasis. Great golden period. Thank you for a lovely video.

Brahmins dialect may seem different but it is one of the purest forms of Thamizh....the fact that it sounds odd is because today's Thamizh is adulterated in many ways...Brahmins don't speak different thamizh its just the rest speak the Adulterated version of Thamizh....
I was born in Madras but brought up in Chennai. I speak all the Madras dialect but today I know its origin... Felt awesome

Urdu is Infact totally promoted by the bollywood film industry.. We don't speak such words in our everyday hindi... The hindi songs are the greatest example
The songs are called 'Hindi Songs' But it has 90% Urdu. I was too astonished when i realized after learning Urdu

Yes, this slang or lingo is only akin to a particular place/area and v interesting to know how it evolved. There are few more keep in a cupboard … put in the bureau… or Alamaari (Portuguese origin), for kitchen they would say cuisini(cuisines) of foreigners. Like a local metropolitan lingo concoction.

In 2016 or thereabouts, I was conducting a geography workshop for teachers from around Tamizh Nadu, in Tiruchi. Along the way, trying to be funny, instead of saying "Well A has water", I said, "A கிணறுலே தண்ணி கீது." One of the teachers hissed (actually she inhaled sharply making that sound). I asked her what happened. She said, "As *teachers* we should not be talking like that, sir." I asked her why. She just repeated her stance. Post-workshop we had brief chat about legitimacy of spoken language. She wasn't buying it. She continued to look upset, though she let it go.
It was lunch time.
