  • EPIC RECOVERY! Watch Wout Van Aert, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogačar on a mountain stage in the Tour de France. Wout Drops Pogačar from UAE ad launches Vingegaard tot he victory for Jumbo Visma Leasebike.
    After a whole day on the attack and an entire Tour spent toggling between contesting sprints and attacking from the gun, one might have anticipated little more than a symbolic show of support from Van Aert. Instead, Van Aert produced the mile or so of mountain pace-making that effectively sealed the Tour for Vingegaard.
    4.4km from the summit, Pogačar finally realised he could go no further. The man who has won the past two Tours de France was somehow dropped on an hors categorie climb by a rider who has won two bunch sprints on this one.
    Van Aert persisted for another 500m or so, pulling Vingegaard ever further clear of Pogačar, before he eventually relented. Pogačar would come past him again a little further up the climb, but even a soft-pedalling Van Aert was fresh enough to stay clear of the rest. The green jersey of the Tour punched the air as he came home third on the stage, 2:10 down on Vingegaard.
    This was one of his best moments ever!

    Who wil win the next Tour de France? Remco Evenepoel, Tadej Pogacar, Primoz Roglic, Jonas Vingegaard, Enric Mass, Romain Bardet, or another Rider?

    Anyone who thinks Wout Van Aert is a sprinter because he won a green jersey is wrong. The guy is a powerhouse of a climber too, and absolutely empties his tank in support of his team leader. Any other team, I think he’d be their GC rider.

      He will ride the Giro in 2024. Maybe we will see his GC ambitions.

      @@1minCyclingClips my guess is Jumbo is preparing him as the next Kuss for the team, and they us the dual leader tactic of Vingegaard and Kuss. Got to replace super domestique Kuss with super domestique Wout 🤷‍♂️

      I dont know about GC. He is tall and heavy compared to other GC guys. 15KG more than vingegaard and pogi. Insane athlete insane power, but in my opinion in individual stages, classics, TT. In 2022 he won 3 stages in the TdF but did not have a top 10 in GC.

      I saw a video of him explaining or pointing out his limitations to be a GC rider. Then last part of the video, he said it can be boring training when you only focus on Grand Tours

      @TellusJD Před 5 měsíci +1

      ahh well he could top 10 if he had a team to go but he really does get beaten quite clearly in the big mountains, if he did the best ever he might be able to do around number 5 in GC. He is a typical classics rider with punch and able to do a somewhat tempo in the mountains like wiggins like cadel evans. But not quite as good as evans. But the competition in the mountains is way above than when wiggins and evans won. In another time yes he could have won. But today with pogacar vingegaard roglic etc. No.

    Wout recently said in a podcast he was absolutely dead at the point that Pogacar got dropped. He was about to stop pulling, but then heard in his radio that Pogi was dropping and than like he said "you still seem to be able to give just a little more while a second before you think you are empty and then you get that message and manage to pull 500mtr more"
    He also said that he only held on to Pogacars wheel for maybe a second, it was a bit longer but not very long.
    He also said he was completely dead after this stage and felt completely cooked for 2-3 days after.

    Wout's display in this TDF was one of the most impressive things I've seen from a cyclist of hist stature. For a 78kg and 1.9m tall rider to drop a 65kg climber after also being in the break for 80km, it is mind-blowing. The amount of power he would have put out is ridiculous.

    Let us not forget that Pogacar trained on an indoor trainer due to a fractured wrist pre TDF. Training on an indoor trainer and on the road are two different animals. Fitness levels are very different. Pogacar would have crushed everyone if that was not the case.
