My brothers and I laughed SO hard at the "flat-faced mommy" bit when we first saw it (2:48). The slugs definitely stole the show. I don't remember much of the movie, but as I recall, MK and Nod were kind of irritating, tbh. It was still fun to watch, though.
Also, the fact that Mandrake, the villain, was actually NICE to his son Dagda - even going so far as to abandon his attack on the queen when Dagda was injured - was an unexpected break from the norm of bad guys belittling their offspring. It made us a good deal more sympathetic to him than we had any reason to be.

yes! i liked that too, Mandrake was a proud father that just wanted his son to have a great kingdom while not belittling nor babying him, truly just trying to show him the ropes, oddly a great dad and its something you dont see in villains often

It was a bad movie when it came out because movies back then were actually good. If it came out today, it would be considered good (or at least average, which is high praise since most films coming out nowadays are trash).
That freaking fly aging and dying has lived in my head rent free since I saw this movie for the first time like a decade ago. And I can't decide if its horrifying or hilarious.

I feel like it would have made so much more sense if him and his wife had worked on the research together, then she dies or something when M.K. is five and he throws himself into work and is unable to take care of her cus of grief and stuff. Then M.K. comes back years later because he says he’s gotten better than boom, rest of the story unfolds the same.

I'm not a fan of the cover music, and it would definitely be better if they at least wrote original songs for it(or, y'know.. didn't make it a musical at all), but it's definitely a guilty pleasure of mine to watch every now and then because the art and plot is there. But the singing is hella cringe 95% of the time.

Things I like about this movie:
- They made Mary Katherine sound like an actual teenager/younger person rather than hire an older celebrity to try and imitate someone younger.
- The main villain wears a bat cape, while his son wore a rat cape (meaning the father and son wore matching furry outfits).
- Most of the fairies and sprites in this movie were men rather than the pretty young women in flower dresses like we see in so many other fairy stories. Boys can like fairies too!
- Queen Tara's design is freaking gorgeous. It's like Queen Clarion and Princess Tiana had a baby goddess.
- 1:02 is the greatest moment of editing in the history of editing moments.
- Disability and dog representation.
- The DUMMY THICC worm in the purple coat looks like he's made of boogers and I have the humor of a five-year-old.
- The fly scene is wonderfully dark humor.
- When Ronan says "It's Epicin' time." And then he epics all over the bad guys.
- The fact that the villain cares so much about his kid to the point where he shows off his baby teeth to prisoners.
- Said prisoners being tortured by being bored to death by the bad guy's baby album is peak comedy. (He probably saves stories about his ex-wife for the people he REALLY hates.)
Things I don't like about this movie:
- Racist slugs.
- The main villain's nasally voice doesn't fit him that well. It's like a half-ass impression of James Woods's Hades.
- The fact that no one remembers it.
Anyway, I declare this movie the Epic of all time. It gets an Epic / 10. Strange Magic could NEVER.

This movie has some of the most beautiful sceneries I've ever watched in an animated film, and it was from 2013.
I forgot how incredibly amazing this movie is. I mean it's truly fantastic from the awesome voice casting and the totally extraordinary humor. I think it's safe to say that his movie is without a doubt ... rad. But foreal tho, I quote "Ouch I hurt my elbow" on the daily.

One thing I noticed in this movie is that the protagonist, MK, and the villain, Mandrake, never actually directly interact. Mandrake really doesn’t care about the presence of a human brought down to their level, he just wants the pod.

Bro remember watching that movie a lot as a kid
I just love this cartoon. I am amazed by the criticism of this picture. And I don’t care that the plots of this picture and the cartoon “Arrietty” have something in common (even Ronin and Arrietty’s father look alike). The music is amazing and the scenes and detail are enchanting. Ronin stole my heart. It is a pity that many films and cartoons do not coincide with the mood of the public and other circumstances, and then are figuratively thrown into the trash. It’s a pity, I don’t know how I can help creative teams who need support in working on both small and large projects.
This just reminded me of the entire plot. Man, it's been way too many years since I saw that movie.
