I played this last year, and now it plays in my head every time I take a test.

this comment is hilarious
we’re doing this piece right now and it has a pretty fun bass part, finally something that doesn’t just repeat over and over 👍
If a bass part gets too repetitive, change it up. It's best to keep the root on the downbeat, but after that, as long as what you play fits with the drums and the rest of the chart, you're good.
@@paulbaker3522do you have any advice for drum kit at all? I only have trouble with foot independence and hand independence.
@@jarquavioncousinsthethird3636 I'm a sax player, but I'll try. First, the only real solution is tons of work and practice. Second, try to isolate each part and get them down on their own and then try to combine them. Start very slowly and then work up the tempo. Practice independence away from the kit, while you're walking, while you're watching tv, etc. Talk to other drummers to find out what they do. I'm sure YT has tons of videos on drum set instruction. Don't get discouraged. Every drummer has been where you are. You can and will overcome this.
@@bakersjazzandmore8109 definitely, I’ve been playing for about eight years now, and thank you for the advice. I kinda meant do you have any advice about playing the song, spots where I could have difficulty, etc.
@@jarquavioncousinsthethird3636 Just keep everything steady, follow the chart, and groove like crazy. You don't have to get real busy with the fills. A simple fill or solo, played well, is better than something flashy but our of time.
piano part is so cool on this
i have to write a trombone solo for this... wish me luck haha
Learn the G harmonic minor scale and every note will work. G-A-Bb-C-D-Eb-F#-G. On the G minor chords stay closer to the first half, and on the D7 chords use more of the second half (avoiding the G). The best thing about improvising on the trombone is that you're never more than a half step away from a right note and it's easy to slide up or down to get there. Use your ear. It will tell you what sounds best. Also, look at the written solo I provided to see what notes I used (and emphasized) and when I used them. Good luck. I know you'll sound great.
@@paulbaker3522 Thank you so much! Your music is awesome by the way.
@@blakerau6167 How'd it go with writing a solo. I might have to do one on trombone so I would love to hear so I can get some ideas!

What’s the grade one this piece because it’s so fun
It's a challenging 2, so probably closer to 2.5.
