    The 35-150 just lives on my camera. I definitely do need to go wider sometimes though for some variety.

    Man, you make the CFL look GOOD! Your videos are way more cinematic and magical than anything the networks do. That Bomber entrance at 3:30 is incredible for 1080p! I have the R6 II which is amazing but doesn't have 4K 120 (though the 4K 60 is best in class) so I will try the HD 120 option. Even viewed on a 5K monitor that shot looks fantastic.
    Btw, saw you on the sidelines during the Grey Cup!

      Thank you very much, I appreciate it! Yeah 1080p is still great! I know everyone (myself included) shoots 4K nowadays but there’s a lot more to a shot than how many pixels it has
      I always find it funny when I get spotted on the sidelines haha

      Usually somewhere in the 4500-5000K range depending on the lighting in the stadium

    Hey Peter big fan, I have recently been getting more into sports videography but still have some troubles locating my footage after I bring it into PP. I was wondering if you could create a video how you organize your footage that makes it easier to locate certain shots that you are looking for. I know multiple videographers have these troubles so this would help me and others out a bunch. Thanks for the videos love learning from them❤

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      This video may help with regards to organizing:
      czcams.com/video/P05yRXJwh7M/video.htmlsi=JcQhhSQ8JUxWsdD1
      Also if you’re in the project panel you can right click a clip and select “show in finder” and it will locate the clip for you. Hope that helps!

    Can you do something like this for basketball?

    • @petersarellas

      It’s honestly the exact same for basketball. Obviously it looks a bit different but these 3 events still happen in the same way and can be captured to tell the same message

    Are you shooting on higher shutterspeed on purpose to get sharper images and less motion blur? asking because at the beginning you said you had shutter on 320 instead of 120 for 60fps

    As someone who works for the CFL you have access to the sideline and maybe closer than a fan can’t get.
    For someone who wants to use broadcast footage and coaches game film, how do I go about getting a broadcast to a video?
    How would I download that?
    I downloaded a game on CZcams but how cna I then take that and chop it up to make my own videos?
    Thank you

    Hey Peter my name is Freddy Velazquez and I am a videographer in Michigan. I have been shooting with my Sony FX30 when I got it at the beginning of this year. It’s been awesome to have, but I feel like I’m lacking in one area and that is my footage always feels grainy. I am shooting High School Basketball, Wrestling and Cheerleading indoor with gym lighting. I shoot at 4K 60 f2.8 shutter 1/120-1/325 and my footage is too dark if I shoot at ISO 800 so I put it to 2500 but then it is without fail grainy. And the same goes for when I shoot S&Q 120 5x Slower, or just MR3 shooting 4K 120 shutter 1/250 ISO 2500. I can’t escape grainy footage and I was just wondering if you had some tips or any solutions because I see your footage with the FX30 and I feel like I’m missing something. Anyway keep up the good work you are helping me a lot and your work is truly amazing! Thanks

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      Hey Freddy! If you're dealing with grainy footage in this scenario it may be due to poor lighting conditions. To compensate I'd recommend shooting at 1/125 if you're in 60fps, as well as shooting lots of footage in 24fps with a 1/50 shutter to allow for more light to hit your cameras sensor. ISO 2500 on the FX30 should not be grainy at all when exposed correctly so I doubt that ISO is the issue here. If you still find that you can't expose your footage correctly (if shooting Slog3 this is typically 1.67 stops overexposed) then I'd recommend shooting in a picture profile that is more saturated like S-Cinetone as it should be easier to expose correctly and will reduce how far you have to push your footage when grading.

    Do you use filters when recording basketball games? I just got a Sony a7iii and trying to figure out if I need filters for indoors lol. Might sound like a dumb question

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      I like using 1/4 strength mist filters quite a bit but I don’t do it all the time and definitely not if I’m filming with other cameras without filters that are all going to be cut together to make one video. Sometimes I’ll also use an ND on the FX3 so that I can bump my ISO up to the dual native ISO of 12800 if ISO 800 is too dark.

    How do you set you're shutter speed for each scene? Like you changed your shutter speed depending on the shot...?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes I adjust it manually, though I do have memory recall presets ready to go for 24, 60 and 120fps

    How come you shoot 120 fps with a shutter of 1/400 w 1600 iso vs 1/250 with lower iso. Do you prefer overcranking the shutter speed for a certain look?

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      Yes I’m purposely overcranking my shutter to get less motion blur because it makes fast-paced sports look more intense

  • @tresburros
    @tresburros Před 8 měsíci +1

    This is great. Do u film at 2.8? Haven’t been able to get one yet and shooting at f4, but it’s definitely missing the depth of field based on where the players are and where I’m sitting.

    • @petersarellas
      @petersarellas  Před 8 měsíci

      On telephoto lenses like a 70-200 I film at f4 and things look good with sufficient depth of field due to the focal length IMO. As noted here a lot of the wider stuff is at f2.8 or sometimes even lower.
