Science video! Testing meat instead of motors because meat is muscles which are activated by electrical impulses from the nervous system. Should I have tried a joint of beef or pork instead? With thanks to @mothcub

This was an April Fools video. Thanks for watching!
makes so much more sense now.
I still want my chicken robot
i belive mythbusters did an episode on this. the muscles only have enough fuel for a few contractions before its done. it builds up lactic acid and uses the chemicals that allow it to move.
Look at your calendars everyone :P
EDIT: Oh god how did you get those horrific chicken/human hybrid anatomy posters? Is that Stable Diffusion?
The muscle has to be kept alive with ringers solution and freshly disected!
This works at exact one day in the year... Tomorrow it won't work until next year
No have you watched the Video the Meat definetly worked! Maybe you are beating your meat too much for it to still work. I'm sorry to hear about about your disfunctional meat.
@@dextrodus its also possible they put nitinol wire through the center and hooked the clips to that.. as the contraction is way too dramatic tbh
This has to be the most uncomfortable video James has posted. And I love it!
Watch him build a boat....
Glad this is an April fools video and not an actual project
Love that guy
i cant wait for the serious follow up "ive invented myomers" video :)
Uncomfortable for whom?

Everyone was always saying "this doesn't work" and "please leave this Waitrose" but we finally proved them WRONG 😌
It is confirmed that free energy is exist from a meat, if ur mom cook it for you, for lunch

soon they'll see. Soon they'll ALL see. THEY'LL ALL SEE!
"meat robots won't work"- said a literal robot made of meat like Seriously doesn't any one find problem with a bunch of meat robots saying meat robots won't work like Seriously
Brings me back to the good old days of robot chicken.
I’m also not entirely convinced that you guys were “acting” awkwardly. I’m pretty confident that’s your natural characters
Probably one of the best April Fools videos I've seen
How is it an April fool's vid if it does not fool us?
@@raptorthegamer5524 It's April Fun video🤣🤣

I love how Brilliant still sponsored this video!
BRILLIANT!
Yes that was…. Brilliant!
I didn't even know that because Sponsorblock is great!
@@lightdark00 Same here
I forgot what day it was and started watching this as a regular James video whilst thinking "but it's not Tuesday"
FRANKENCHICKEN!!! YESSSSSS!
I would love to see you build a whole chicken from chicken. That sounds disgusting and amazing.
We can then hunt the chicken for its meat!
@@rahulkushwaha9500 I was so disappointed when I realised what day it was...
That sounds like reverse engineering...
don't forget the brain, maybe even that could be powered with the right voltage and maybe, and this is a big maybe, it could be used for data storage, in one way, or another.
@@Spanu96 it requirement would very complicated, you would the resources of almost your hole body, less arms and legs, so if your going that fare you might as well do a hole body to go with to brain you making?

"And I'm Ella!"
"Right, I forgot what day it was."
Never seen something this detailed executed!!! Great
Great showcase! My dissertation project is to develop a new type of engine so that people can use chicken they buy for dinner to drive them home! It will have amazing environmental impact since the chicken is already there on a shelf anyway so why not use it to save fuel!
Still runs on electricity. I find it very hard to believe that chicken is more efficient than regular electro cars.
@@erikschmidt2571 You just need to wire up that Vegan sausage on the roof and then you can do photosynthesis, making it a fully independent car that never needs refueling.
Why not just riding an ostrich instead?
@@dextrodus oh yeah, it's all coming together.
This is your weirdest video yet! 🤣🤣🤣 Love it!
As a Frenchman, the little joke about poisson, chicken and salmonella made my day :D
Also, i'v a question : did the muscle relax after you stop the alimentation ?
Or have you to stretch it before you can contract it again ?
This video felt like I was tripping on something....
This was an amazing project...
Agreed completely
I was so confused until I remembered what day it was lmao
Didn't expect such an April fool's
Part of me wishes that this wasn't related to the current date, and that somehow the world has just become an awesome semi-random place where everyone has lost their minds
T'would certainly be a happier place, so long as everybody lost their mind in a whimsical instead of violent way
Brilliant - and what a great line at 6:58, typical everyday stuff for James
The key thing when working with muscle motors is length. The longer the meat the more contraction you will get
No no it's all about technique! Oh and of course you can't beat your meat too much, than it won't perform properly when you need it to.
That's what she said...
That's one of the basic fundamentals of prison science
@Workshopshed _The key thing when working with muscle motors is length._
A conger eel makes a longer -meal- motor.
Or maybe find a supplier of snake meat... Make a franken-snake out of them, which can do scriptable actions under the control of a popular programming language and you'd have a python-powered Python python.
The angle of the dangle is equal to the square of the root
You had me at “Sam ‘n Ella”. I knew this was going to be fun!

Her name is mothcub

OMG I'm laughing so hard I'm crying :p I'm French, so hearing the "food poissoning" bit was hilarious :D Well done, well done!
I didn't see this coming! But, I freaking love it! Maybe I'll give this thing a try myself and see what I can build!
Knok knok!!
Ohhh!!! Is the police!!
They are so cute together
It's not meat?
Edit: Brilliant is like "WTF did we pay for?"
One of those, just because you can doesnt mean you should kind of things :')
Finally! A practical use for chicken. Best build a refrigerator around it though.
This is great! I bet it was hard to make sure the muscle wires (Nitol) were hidden the whole time.
Do you mean nitinol?
@@thecwd8919 Yes, sorry for the spelling error :3
This was AWESOME!!!! Andf you two are HILARIOUS together!!! I was cracking up SO HARTD the ENTIRE TIME!!!! And I STILL AM!!!!
I hope you two do more videos together like this one... :)
Okay good because I wasn't the only one
The gradual descent into madness throughout this video was great.
10/10 Would salmonella again.
This is an incredible video.
Loved the Sam and Ella name pun too.
Sam n Ella is what you get eating motors that have not been stored in the fridge, or have passed April the 1st best before date.
At 2:51 the chicken let's the magic smoke out 😂
This video reminded me of a book series I read years ago where motors are organic and basically muscles in a box.
Monster blood tattoo IIRC was the name of the series
I work at a butcher shop. Very fresh meat can definitely move (possibly just from salt), but as others have said, without the support of the rest of the body they never recover from fatigue. You would need blood pumping through them.
This feels like a deep web video where a cannibalistic couple casually creates contraptions from their victims' flesh.
James how much of that wine did you two drink before making this video 😂 by the way you two are hilariously awkward together and we love it.
does the current or voltage to the muscle impact how fast it contracts?
Oh great. Gpt 5 is going to see this and get ideas.
Sam: "Hi I'm Sam"
Ella: "And I'm Ella"
Together: "And this is SALMONELLA!"
Hello James,
I love your wonderful creations! Could you make a Glados (Portal) lamp for the apartment ceiling? I would love to see a 3d printable design with standard components, so I could build it :D
“Dude, how much horsepower does this thing have?”
“One.”
“Bro, how slow is this thi-“
“DO YOU KNOW HOW BIG A HORSE IS”
An incredible video. Thank you!
how long does it take for the muscle to run out of energy (ATP, and, if the cells are still alive, glucose), and could you drench it into a sweet substance to keep it energyzed?
Maybe you should also try out pneumatic muscles. It could be interesting to make a walking robot with them.
I've never been both grossed out and intrigued at the same time 🤣
Also get you with your Waitrose flexing 😜
The ham slice wouldn't have worked because it's cut the wrong way -- It sliced the fibers, so any contraction would make the slice thinner.
James has made the jump from robots to cyborgs! I assume a meat powered Ironman suit or R2 unit isn't far away?
How to Basic featuring James Bruton, the collaboration we didn't know we needed
The meat motor that sprays cleaner is my favorite.
I love the Sam n Ella pun at the start. xD
Took me three minutes to check the date. Great job!
This technology can be used to control humans who are paralyzed or cannot move great job 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey there! Do you have a link to files to build the 'pipe organ'? I can't find it!
There is a very fitting practical parody of this that could be done very well on a particular site.. trying to really keep it PG here
Both of you have such great chemistry, I couldn't help but wonder if you're together.
How on earth have I not previously been aware of your channel. This is delightful.
Sam O'Nella has returned again!
Is that funking chicken jenga !!??
this is more than unique, this will probably make history
what is the maintenance on these motors? does it require regular oil change? lubrication?
what is the runnig hours before general failures?
you can use a wine glass as the top roller of a van der graf generator. use a couple of zip ties round the stem as bearings, attach it sideways to a smoothie bottle top or a bit of plastic pipe or whatever. i suppose you would want to make it with a 3D printer. you might want to ring in monsieur furze for the charge collector
this is like watching your geography teacher on a field trip with that art teacher which is clearly actually a date .
“Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” - Ian Malcom (Jurasic Park)
Well that was fun and educational. I actually didn't think that the meat would move.
Cool, can you make them move faster? Also can you attach blood supply to each muscle so they have enough oxygen and glucose for continuous work?
Maybe muscles from the chicken, that is still alive, would have higher performance?
Good to know I can build an animatronic girlfriend entirely with chicken breasts and MOSFETs
When the artifiicer and the necromancer works together:
You have to use freshly harvested muscle for this to work, fresh as in still warm.
Very unusual style of videos , i had a lot of fun
It’s alive.
It’s alive.
It’s alive!
This video did meat my expectations…. Well done.
This is the kind of relationship dynamic I wish I could have someday
please do more biopunk videos like this. i love it
"You either clean, or you get cooked."
"You mean cook?"

"You mean cook, right?"
Does the voltage changes the speed at wich the muscle contracts ?
In a real experiment with a fresh frog Gastrocnemius muscle yes it does.
Chicken being pushed between probes for April fools not so much.
Ok after the mention of meat, when she said "how big is your" my brain filled in a different word to end the question with. lmao
The deadpan delivery is 10/10.
Electrocutes raw chicken muscle tissue while drinking wine: Is this a human?
Plato would approve.
how will you supply the sugar and oxygen to themeat tho? Sooner or later the supply present in it will end and the muscle wont move anymore...
It's the perfect day for a video like this 😅
I didn’t even question if this was possible, but now i know it is
This could go down a dark path :D
Oh i expected you made rotational motion with chicken breast's linear motion 😂 but its amazing either
Tip: It doesn't work on either sausages or ham because they're not an entire muscle piece.
Sausages is made out of mince, so the muscle structure/tissue is completely destroyed and won't work.
Meanwhile, ham is just a thin layer of the muscle tissue. It may work, but it is very unlikely.
"Sam wait wait wait! There's a sign on bonus!"
"Is it a meat organ?"
"It might be a meat organ"
What a wild, and amazing idea.
Would something like frog-legs work better/faster? It is faster muscle fiber, I think?
With mr. Bruton I never knows what's real and what's April's Fool 😅
Isn't this actually possible with certain reptile or amphibian legs like frogs? I know you can get them to constrict with salt, but I wonder if you could alternate electric fields with the right kind of electrolyte solution to get them to work like is joked here.
a biomechanical linear actuator does sound pretty cool
[finishes watching]
"wait a minute his name isn't Sam"
Now make chickens dance like those Boston Dynamics robots videos 🐥
Bantam Dynamics?

Im a little sad that Frankenchicken never happened. Please reconsider for a future vid. 🤣

You could speed them up by using mains.
I believe Big Clive has done that experiment already...
wrap bottom roller in bubble-wrap (bubbles outward) make belt from most flexible excercise band stick together with superglue
It sould be possible to create an upright walking robot with 2 sausages and 1 potato.
😂😂😂
In maybe 6 months we'll get a video about myomers and suddenly afterwards a video about battlemechs.
could you imagine some sort of metal exoskeleton with organic muscles that you could wear. think of something from the crisis game but with chicken muscles, you'd have to carry the fuel for them too or give it some sort of stomach, it would be like climbing inside of a body builder carcass. or muscle legs attached to a bicycle that pedal for you, you'd just feed it a meal everyone and then and off you go again!
I've seen too much internet for tonight....
