Breath-Body-Mind Practices for Relief of Stress and Trauma in Healthcare Personnel, Patients, and Families
Dr. Richard P. Brown and Dr. Patricia Gerbarg discuss and demonstrate breath-focused, polyvagal-informed mind-body practices for relief of acute and chronic symptoms of stress, depression and trauma. By balancing the autonomic nervous system, breath practices improve emotion regulation, reduce defensive reactivity, and activate the social engagement network. Through these actions, it is possible to counteract adverse effects of the coronavirus epidemic, including anxiety, insomnia, anger, isolation, and loss.

I've been doing coherent breathing twice a day for 6 weeks and have no change yet. I'm going to keep going with hope for healing.

Instead of doing it 2x a day, why not try 3x times a day?
Aren’t there are patients who need to take their medications 3x a day for therapeutic effect, and that 2x a day is not therapeutic?
      What’s your opinion?

I started the practice 2x a day about 2 weeks ago.
No significant difference that I can tell yet, though my insomnia has shown some slight improvement in last 2 nights.

Excellent, succint explanation of the power of conscientious breathing-especially as a tool; for promoting regulation; how traumatized individuals can help themselves to create the kind of steadiness that can enhance a return to steadiness and capacity to relate well to others.

Thank you very much. I have been practicing Coherent Breathing by following instructions in your book, Breath-Body-Mind Practices. I have also done some Pranayama practices and I feel that there is much to be learned from Eastern traditions. Namaste.
