As football(soccer) fan that started playing and watching basketball later in life it's crazy how easy it is to become an NBA coach. You can basically be hired from the street.
It's such a contrast to soccer where you need to study for a coaching license for at least a year. Plus there are multiple tiers of licenses and a team gets fined every time they are coached by someone without a license.
I feel the NBA can benefit from some sort formal coaching education, because the amount of guys hired with little to no experience is mind boggling. I honestly don't know how NBA owners are comfortable letting these guys learn on the job.
I think its fine the way it is now. While that soccer tidbit is cool i dont think the problem isnt because coaches dont have licenses its that the gms and front offices hire nobodies to begin with. As well as just recycling old failed coaches, theyre the ones picking their own demise. They wanna be bad? Thats their choice, just look at LA and whats happening there
It’s an unwritten rule most nba coaches spend time as assistant coaches or work in the front office to get experience before being offered a head coach job. This is just the rarest case ever

The NBA is really a joke. Most of it is ISO that coaches have no impact on, so owners don't care who gers hired, they care about players. I know I'm over simplifying it, but yall get my point.

This might sound crazy but looking at how many coaches LeBron has gone through. May give some insight into why he’s only been able to win 4 chips in his 20plus year career. Look at all the Dynasties and repeat champions in the NBA ever. They all have a stable and consistent organization. From the top of ownership, down to the head coaching staff.

@@SWISHOUT I think he got dealt a good hand. You can't say the roster didn't improve that year when Rob traded away westbrook, Lebron was still recovering from his injury. When he came back, Lebron lost 12 pounds, clearly not the same player he was before injury, and bought the team to the western conference finals. That's very good for Darvin Ham's resume considering how the team didn't have chemistry due to all these mid season trades and Lebron's injury.
Last season was fucking inexcusable.

I think this offseason showed how undesirable that job is. Boston's hottest assistant coach decided Charlotte was a better destination, Budenholzer decided that Phoenix was better (who are arguably in a worse situation than the Lakers), and they threw so much money at Dan Hurley only for him to decide he'd rather stay in college.

Blatt had coached them to the finals the year before and to the #1 seed that year when he was fired mid season. If he lost the players or locker room they would have been a crap show, they weren't. Lebron just didn't like him. That's it.

As a fan of Lebron almost anything becomes a harder job once he’s involved.

It’s unfair to Bronny that all these overly high expectations are being put on him by Bron and the media. I don’t feel bad for him financially because his dads a billionaire but I do think this was extremely selfish of Bron and ruined his own sons best chance at having an actual development and a productive career

I remember an old video you did on this. Having LeBron on the team is both a blessing and a curse. You might be guaranteed a championship but it will be hell and then some to get there.

Jordan was the best player of the 80s but was on a bad team he watched Bird, Magic and Isaiah get 6/7 championships between them before he even made to his first finals from 1984-1990. Jordan overcame his adversities and narratives that were thrown against him.

A lot of people just have no clue what coaching is really all about. I don't care what level , coaching is the hardest job in the world. Even people with experience have difficulties in coaching and JJ Reddick is going to find out the hard way just how hard coaching really is. Particularly when you have to deal with the politics of coaching LeBron James and dealing with the fact that he wants his kid to be playing with him.

I understand Darvin Ham got dealt a tough deal but we have to bring up the fact that he was actually a horrible coach. The lineups he used, the favoritism he showed to players that shouldn’t have been on the floor. Man really should’ve been gone and I don’t understand why they hired him.

I'm really glad no FA signed with the Lakers as it's all explained in the video. No one wants to tank in value playing for the Lakers/Lebron and have their job a lot harder with everyone wanting Bronny and LeGM to be on the court together and hearing about it all the time, successful or not. I'd give JJ two years before being fired when they'd probably do another roster change to make the Lakers more competitive since their business move to draft Bronny may sadly not work out but they'd keep him anyway.
They couldn't have signed anyone lol, a FA would have had to wait for them to clear a roster spot.

As a Lakers fan, I agree with you that the narratives and expectations can be very toxic. I consider myself a reasonable Laker fan, so I know the Lakers are not going to be competing for a championship this season with these new additions, it's literally impossible. With this being JJ Redick's first year as a head coach, I don't expect him to magically lead the Lakers to a top 5 seed and to a championship nor do I expect Bronny to win ROTY. I understand that these things take time and that the Lakers probably won't be good for another few years. But I am glad Darvin Ham moved on because there were some plays where he just showed inaction when he needed to make a good call.
David Blatt & Darvin Ham are good coaches. Their accomplishments during their time in LA & CLE prove that as FIRST TIME HEAD COACHES. Not everyone is Steve Kerr and LeQueen and his glazers fans need to understand this. They also need to understand that LeQueen CANT BE COACHED!!! Which is why he’s only wanting rookie head coaches in his time in LA. Can’t even hire a veteran one with a resume because LeQueen would try to out coach him smh 🤡🤣

The Lakers came off a championship and a season where their players got hurt due to them having to play in the bubble and decided to blow it up and get players that don’t fit. The Celtics came off back to back conference finals loses before they made a switch that made sense because they got players that fit. Also the Lakers decided to go for Russ when LeBron signed off on it. But even if you do want to say LeBron isn’t the main guy, then LeBron shouldn’t get no credit for bringing AD to LA.
