I can't wait to play this song for my wife on our first trip in our new to us 2000 AWD... Astro' My wife has already named "Her"... Luna' Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for waiting! I have not been able to work on my van for about a month now from being sick. However I do have a update video that I am trying to save so I can upload it. But I am having technical issues. I appreciate your patience!
That is great, I been looking for a video like this, I was fixing to lift the body off of the subframe, but now, you have saved me a ton of work with your video, thanks.
Actually it looks like they are doing a V8 swap , and using a TH 400 , the original transmission Actually is strong enough for the V8 conversion , I thought about doing this also but I have way to many car projects on going 69 chevelle ,72 vette and a 63 comet wagon!!!!!
It is so much easier to remove the van from the engine then it is to remove the engine from the van as the engineers designed it to be done ...but oddly it looks like we used the same color on your engine as i did on my valve covers
Yeah, if my garage was taller I would have done it factory style. But I am used to doing it this was and it works well. Thats cool! Its my favourite colour!
Sooo It looks great and everything but what's the point of prettying up an astro van? Seems like the money you've sunk into it could buy you another whole astro.
well first off, I have been with this van for 27 years. I have a huge history with this van in particular. I LOVE this van, it is my soul. Secondly, When you rebuild a vehicle it takes a lot of time and energy and money, so do it right and make it your best. Once this van is done and back on the road, it is basically brand new again. Thirdly, I did what I did to it not to just make it look good and make me happy, but to protect the van from our Canadian salt covered roads. And Im doing it because its an Astro van, they are the best vehicles made. And with them not being made anymore, they need to be restored. You dont know what you have until its gone.
Thank you! Its not a remanufactured trans, it is the original trans from the van. I sent it in to a retired trans guy to have it rebuilt. However the trans was in such good shape he didn't have to rebuild much of it. He only charged me $800.
Its the original to the van. I had the trans rebuild, but do to the trans being in such good shape it only costed me $800. The engine was in the same shape, so it too didn't cost me much. I had the cylinders board out to 30 thousands of an inch and the piston heads are marine grade. I wanted to keep the engine as stock as possible. The only thing is the cam is a little taller then stock. So it should give me more punch. We are not sure what to expect, we are exited to find out what this engine will do with the slight changes we made.
@@jacobvanhalteren7452 we have a 91 Astro that has a 350 small block with a stock trans. And before that we had 2 other Astros with v8's and stock trans. Have not had a problem. They may be beating on them hard a lot?
How can anyone be done with vans. They are a great tool to have in life.... Im sorry but I just cannot see my life without a van. I have never been in a situation where my van was not useful in any way.
@@astrovanboss I've own about 20 over the last 30 years in my wholesale business, just tired of working on them, I have a pickup now, blind man can fix a pickup(guess I should have made myself clear, I had to have them in my business, retired now)

Thank you for sharing!
Awesome 👌. I just built out my 2000 AWD Astro and I named her
"Lucille" 'cause anything built like that's got to be called Lucille!
Thanks for showing us how this is done. I may have to do this for my van some day. Congratulations on your progress.
Great Video! I'm restoring my 2000 GMC Safari Cargo Van. To me, they are really great and still look good on the road.
Thats great! These vans are totally worth it! Yeah I get compliments a lot about them being the better looking vans out there.
Waiting for an update on your progress... Thank you for sharing

That’s great to hear!
this engine (4.3) and trans is a great design, chevrolet. very reliable mid size power pack.

Awesomeness! Love the vid! Congrats on getting it installed! ❤️

Love it!!!!

I didnt know the front end could come off, or did you cut it?
On the first generation Astro/Safari's, the front end is bolted so you are able to dismantle for repairs.

How long did it to dismantle the front end?
I did it at leisure, it took a weekend. It could be done in an evening.

If that's a reman trans, which company did you get it from?

We're gonna have to rebuild ours soon.
Good luck with the rest of the van.
Thanks for posting
Is there a manual transmission swap option
They had that option for the 4 cylinder Astros back in the first gens. You can as long as the bell housing fits. I have seen others do it.
Is the motor or trans built at all?
