      Hello Dr
      I have a question...!
      Because many FMG students did online classes (example for 1 or 2 years) during the period of covid-19 , will that be a concern for residency/getting interviews (*if yes- then what should they do to overcome?)

      @dr.acquah  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I don't think COVID-19 affected only FMGs. US medical students were also affected.
      I really don't think this is a problem or something that will limit your chances of securing interviews.
      If your clinical rotations in year 3-4 went well (are going well) and you have an overall healthy application, you should be fine.

    I'm at Family Health Medical school in Ghana - any tips for how to prepare for the whole process from Med1? Picking electives in the US etc? Doing a year of research after graduating?

    Thank you so much for this insightful video. Please how do we get externships in the US? Is it the same process as getting an observership?

      Thank you for checking out this video and for your comment.
      The process of getting externship and/or observership is similar. Observaship as the name suggests is observing or shadowing whereas with Externship, you get to take history and/or even examine the patients.
      There are several ways to get either obervership or externship. Most hospitals would want you to observe whereas most US clinics would allow you to do externship.
      You can personally reach out to colleagues or any physician on facebook or linkedin, family members or church members if they know of any doctor that you can rotate with, be it observaship or externship.
      Also there are paid observaship and externship which are quite expensive. Usmle Sarthi does it, see link in description box.
      Hope this answers your question.

    is it compulsory to have a USA clinical experience?

    • @dr.acquah
      @dr.acquah  Před 5 měsíci

      In my current position, I get the opportunity to interview candidates for residency positions and that is something we look at. So it's not compulsory but it can make a big difference whether you are considered for an interview or not. I hope this is helpful.
