Campervan Roadtrip- Part 2: the Northern Spanish beaches, Bilbao & San Sebastián

- In the next part of our VW early retirement campervan roadtrip we head out of the mountains and onto the coast of Northern Spain, where we discover the most stunning coves and beach head campsites. We head East and drop into the cultural port of Bilbao taking in the iconic Guggenheim architecture and finish our Spanish adventure in the historic Basque capital of San Sebastián.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
You will soon realise that we are complete CZcams beginners with all the challenges of creating and publishing videos ahead of us, not to mention uploading when on the road.

A couple of loose plans really, one is depart the the UK to Amsterdam, then follow the North coast through Belgium, maybe Luxembourg, France, Portugal, then drop down to the South coast back through Spain, France possibly Switzerland then into Italy and possibly Croatia

I've just finished watching this video and I'm "hooked'! 🤗 In April and May we toured for the first time ever in our caravan in Western and Northern Spain for 2 weeks, 3 weeks in Portugal and 1 week in France en route back to the UK. We were so pleasantly surprised by northern Spain. Just gorgeous and not so well known. Can't wait to return but we're now considering a van or motorhome. Friends joined us for 4 weeksin their motorhome which seems a much easier way to travel. I immediately subscribed to your channel and can't wait to watch all the other videos. You have such an easy style. I love the music, the mix of stills and videos as well as your photography. Congratulations. Bon voyage. Best wishes, Julian.
Thankyou for your kind words, it was lovely to read😊 we loved northern Spain especially the mountains. The countryside was so much more lush and green than we had anticipated and the coast so much more rugged. We can’t wait to return with maybe a diversion into Portugal and definitely trying to get into the Pyrenees this time. The caravan v motorhome debate is a tough one! We noticed the bigger motorhome we recently rented slightly limited where we could go due to parking and road quality. Our vw is ace and can go anywhere but space inside is very limited and caravans are less flexible when planning a trip but you get the space and freedom of a car! Tricky one 🤣 I know Richard wouldn’t relish towing a caravan around Europe especially in the mountains so it would always be a motorhome or camper for us 🚐

I live in the Lakes but for just over a year, so I’ve started with the Lake District first to find those hidden gems.
I’m sure you probably have this on list for videos but if possible and willing to share, could you do a cost breakdown of this trip as planning to do similar next year (also on a budget) so that would be really helpful.

The La Paz campsite looks great. You look to be having a fantastic time - good coastal walks and bike rides (I've been following Jackie on Strava) and great weather - it's raining here in the Yorkshire Dales so you are definitely in the right place! I know what you mean about borders - last week I was in Germany in a town on the Polish border, and it was odd just walking over into a different country without any checks - I also had my passport ready just in case! We were surprised how much like the uk the northern Spanish coast was we even had some rain to make us feel at home! We’ve loved the cycling in France and have done over 280km so far!
