Thank you for this video. I'm a boring old person, and CZcams randomly recommended this to me along side furniture restorations, history documentaries and other dull things. At first I thought ??? But I lost both of my cats in July, so I gave it a try, and I've watched it a few times now. The care you both show for BimBim is delightful to see, and it's been a real comfort.

I saw Drew Gooden at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
As someone who grew up with cats, watching you both fawn over Bimbim and congratulating her for trying new things really warms my heart.

this video is like therapy for me. in April my girlfriend of nearly 4 years and I broke up, and she took her cat back home with her. he's a 10 year old long-haired ginger who was a typical ginger cat. a bit daft but so affectionate and funny. I loved Hector to bits and I was completely devastated when they left. for weeks I refused to even talk or think about it at all because I was so distraught.
not even a week later, my other cat (at my parents' house) died. Miffy was my baby. she was a short and stout little black and white tuxedo cat who was painfully sweet but had very strong instincts when it came to other cats that weren't her brother. we got them when I was 16 and I was very mentally ill. the moment I saw her I was obsessed with her because she was so incredibly unusual. she had the ugliest nails on the chalkboard meow, but she made the cutest little noises and she always sat with one of her legs sticking out funny. she chose me as her favourite person almost immediately, and it felt like she was my cat soulmate in a weird sort of way. the night before she died, she was going up to her food/water trying to eat/drink, but she just couldn't do it because her kidneys were failing. I sat with her all night and cried, and then the next day we had to take her to be put down because she was just suffering. she had health issues since we got her at age 10 and she lived all the way til 19 years old. she was a very impressive cat and I miss her every day.
then a month ago, her brother (also 19) died. it was really horrible because he was completely healthy but then a wound on his paw formed after his claw fell out, and it turned out to be cancer. he was called Mungo after the patron saint of Glasgow where I'm from. he was a massive brown and grey tabby with a white tummy, and he had big paws and a HUGE noggin. he could be antsy when things didn't happen on schedule as he was very particular, and he had the most expressive face of any cat I've ever met. he used to just listen to 2 people talk, and when one person stopped talking and the other started, he would turn his head towards them until the other person talked again and he would look back
this is so long and probably nobody read this far but I really appreciate this video because it's been helping me deal with losing 3 cats in such a short time. I've watched this so many times since it came out and it always makes me feel better💜
I'm so so so sorry for your losses. My sweet fur bab passed away about 2 months ago at the age of 16, and I was inconsolable. I can't imagine how you must feel.

9:20 I think cats want to do things they perceive as things "the pack" does, which is why they almost never touch things we get exclusively get for them.
However, kind of a hack I found with my cat is that he's far more willing to give a new object a chance, and continue using it, if I cover that object with my dirty laundry for a few hours first. I did that for a cat bed that he showed no interest in and now he's consistently used it for over a year.

yes!! cats are good at taking care of themselves, but they can't win a fight with a car, and too many cats are lost to alligators with guns. It's also terrible to see housecats destroy native species that didn't evolve for an environment with miniature tigers lurking around every corner

As a vet tech, thank you for being the kind of cat owner who listens to vet staff and keeps the cone on even though it was inconvenient for you.
My 7 year old cat is having dental surgery next week and for some reason I had no idea she’d be in a cone! She prefers the soft ones so I’m going to buy one in prep thanks to this video
My vet made me take it off because I wanted to keep it on for the full recommended 10 days, but she had an upper respiratory infection and they said the stress might be worse than her licking her wounds at that point lol
I begged my parents to keep the cone on our dog so he'd stop chewing his paws like the vet suggested we do and they just went nah its fine we'll just tell him to stop when we see him doing it. Surprise surprise he still chewed his paws.
@@AnaPie896I’m a vet tech and some animals don’t “need” a cone after a dental procedure, it’s mostly for the ones who won’t leave their face alone after having teeth pulled - they paw at their face, scratch it, etc. My own personal pets have had teeth pulled and never wore a cone afterwards, but some pets do need them. It’s always a good idea to have a cone just in case, so that’s awesome you’re getting one ahead of time! Better to do that than to risk them scratching their stitches out.
the disc shaped, fabric elizibethan collars with elastic are a lot better. my vet uses them instead of the awful plastic cones and they're fantastic for cats. they can still eat and see around them and look way comfier.

Cat tents are great for enrichment! Cats are actually super bad for local ecosystems because of how many small animals they kill, the diseases they can carry, etc. but getting fresh air is super engaging for them. As long as you supervise your cars while they’re outside in tents, it’s the safest and best option.
we let our cat willow on a leash in our backyard and because shes fucking stupid the most shes ever done to the wildlife is nearly get stung by a bee that she pissed off

This is the perfect pet video. Bimbim is adorable, and she got to try a bunch of new toys (which is useful for other's with cats). But most importantly, I love that Drew respected Bimbim the entire time. It's too often we see people scaring their pets or overstimulating their pets just for content and views. And Drew was so sweet and careful to keep Bimbim's happiness and her feeling of comfort and safety in the forefront of his mind during the playtime with the new toys. ❤❤❤

"Crumpled up piece of paper" got me SO hard. My cat had a robot laser pointer that drove around, a catnip koi fish with a motor, and a hanging bird that was supposed to be super engaging to cats. Her favorite toys? Crumpled paper and a random piece of string she found and kept for MONTHS.
My cat steals the strings out of hoodies and pants and has a stash of those and my wife’s hairties. We’ve bought so many toys and she is just uninterested
My sister’s cat’s favorite toy is a big zip tie that was holding a set of plastic drawers together
My cat loves cardboard boxes. She gets bored of them after a while, but when we move them in order to throw them out soon, she becomes interested again.

1) it’s kind of hilarious that e snake toy is modeled after a coral snake- most animals know to avoid them! Bimbim knows what’s up .
2) good on you for keeping your cat inside- (except for her new safe tent of course! ) not only does it protect her, but pet cats left outdoors are major reason for bird populations declining, they are impressively successful killing machines- so thank you!

This itself is the definition for what it is like to be a cat owner. You buy them a really nice and comfy bed that costs a ton, and instead of using it, they decide to sit in the extremely uncomfortable cardboard box that they don't even fit in because it has little sections petruding out of it. But we still love 'em, because they remind us of our own stupidity with their singular brain cells.
my cat had so many comfy beds but would exclusively sit on the garbage can or squish himself under the tv and wrap himself around the tv legs
I love that cats don't give a shit about our made up rules. Who cares if it's expensive? If the cat doesn't like it they aren't gonna sit, doesn't matter how much money or effort went into it. I need that attitude more honestly.
All pets. They don't appreciate aesthetics like we do so they couldn't care less for trash vs some expensive specialized toy. My last dog was a toy shredder. So much money wasted on toys just to be shredded, only to realize he loved kitchen roll cartons more than any toy.

I left my large obnoxious red suitcase on my bed when I went on a trip and my cat had decided that it was the best most amazing bed he’s ever laid in, even better than his heated cat bed. That was over a year ago and now I slept next to giant ugly suitcase every night because of course I wouldn’t dare take it away from him. Good thing I’m single lol

But our cats would still rather play with shopping receipts, plastic water bottle caps and wrappers.
If you haven’t given Bim Bim a bottle cap before, get a plastic bottle cap from a water bottle and place it on tiles and slide it around (sorry if I got her name wrong)

Cats can swallow rubber bands and hairties, yeah, and it'll cause around the same problems as them eating a piece of string does. I'm not sure about the whole bottle cap (think that's a bit too big), but those little plastic rings underneath the bottle caps can also be a swallow hazard
The cat tent is actually very responsible because outdoor cats not only have a VERY shortened life expectancy, they also ruin ecosystems by being invasive predators who kills things just for fun

Tail straight up in the air means she's happy, if its lying low to the ground she's nervous or frightened, if she's flicking it back and forth she could be excited or angry. I like that you we're concerned for her, good cat parents!
This simultaneously reminded me that I wanted to call for my cats bc I want to pet them and also that my cats would not come unless I was busy. Did I call for them anyways? Yes. Did they come? Of course not. I love them.
We had to get most of our cat's teeth removed at one point and it was definitely a bonding experience. She couldn't groom her face but she figured out that she could lick our hands and groom her face by rubbing against our wet hands. It was so adorable... and probably sounds really weird to people who don't have cats 😂

Pro tip for anyone struggling to get their cat to use a cat bed - wrap a small thin blanket around yourself for a while then wrap it around the bed. If the bed smells like you, your cat is more likely to lay in it (if they like you)
my friend bought that cardboard accordion tube toy for her cat (we called it the mushroom). i, at the age of 21, was more entertained by it than the cat.
I do think the billard table does SOMETHING in that it gives cats an appropriate place to knock things OFF the table! Cats love to bat fragile objects off of places they shouldn't be and i think the table gives the illusion of the tempting coffee table without any of the breakability

I miss my boy. He's the only cat I've ever had that actually played with cat toys and he LOVED them. He loved them so much he basically had the whole floor of a room as a playground. He wasn't picky either. One of faves was a brown paper bag that smelled like catnip. He was just the best. 😸

I took in an adult cat right before this video came out that was once my friend's son's pet that he had to leave behind when he went to college. She had been living at someone else's place, but wasn't getting along with their cats. I have tried many toys for her, but she wasn't a big self-starter at playing at first. Among the toys that I bought were a similar self-propelled ball and a similar sticky, springy wand toy. The ball that I got was smoother, so it doesn't bounce along the floor, and it only lights up along a small strip near the power button. My cat liked it, but mostly just to follow around and watch. The rubber on it started to separate a bit, though, and it has a tendency to get itself lost under couches. The wand toy that I got is on a silicone suction cup, so it is movable, and she does like it. It's better when in range of the heating/AC vents because the air coming out makes it move a bit and catches her eye. She does play with that one on her own.
Bottom line is that cats are really picky about what toys they like, which can be frustrating.
For the cat tent, there’s similar things called a Catio, which you might want, I know you can buy some that you have to build or you can get custom installations done
It’s basically the same concept of the tent but just a cage type version, it’s better to google it cuz my description isn’t the best
But it’s definitely worth looking at if it something that interests you

@@Grace-er9epI had two cats and never had a serious problem. The cats had scratching posts etc and I praised them and rewarded them when they used those and squirted them with water when they used other stuff. It took less than a week for the idea to sink in.
@@kensmith5694 I've got 5 cats (most were strays) and even they know they shouldn't scratch the furniture lol. Sometimes they do on accident, but none of them get away with scratching furniture like their lives depend on it lol. We give them a little hiss if they get too crazy with the furniture and it works pretty well.

My cats favorite toy is a piece of wire with cardboard paper on the end of it. 3$ and she goes absolutely buck wild for it. I think the closer something resembles literal garbage the more cats will enjoy it lol.
Example, crumpled paper, pens, bottle caps and hair ties are always a fan favorite no matter the cat.
