1991...the year arcades struck back. Once Street Fighter II landed the second golden age of arcade gaming was upon us and I'm very happy I was apart of it from the very beginning. I remember my first time playing SF2... I was awe struck, unable to move or turn away. I just knew I wanted to play it and become good. I thankfully made friends with some older kids that showed me the ropes at my local arcade. I went from barely being able to beat the computer for one round to creaming adults in a couple of days (Guile). I quickly picked up more technical fighters and became a monster with Ken. To this day, I still main Ken. Addendum- There were very few games that had the ability to shake me loose....Virtua Fighter in the arcades was the first game. The second was Doom and while I don't play Street Fighter like I used to I will never stop playing ID's masterpiece.
Dragon's Lair II featured the vocal talents of the late Hal Smith who played Owl in The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Otis the Town Drunk on The Andy Griffith Show.
Forgot there was a Drgaon's Lair sequel, only read about that in the press at the time. Checking up on that now, gonna have me a longplay sess about it, thanks!
What a great year for arcade games! For me are The Simpson's, Who Shot Johnny Rock? (Although I only saw that one once in the arcade), Dragon's Lair II, Street Fighter II and WWF Wrestlefest!
do u know a game where from the border of an empty screen an icon start to trace lanes from a point in the border to another point until all screen is cover, then a a price shows a picture.
Rampart, I really liked that game. It had some elements of strategy coupled with arcade play. I've gotten home ports on NES, Genesis and some arcade compilation on the PS2 or PS3. None of them lived up to the arcade play...Like Wild Western, I've never found a way to play that game that matched the arcade. I've considered building a special controller for my MAME machine that could also be used with Frontline and such.
5:35. When I saw Twin Bee on the list, I was confused because I recall playing the Japanese Famicom version in Jr. High sometime between 1987 and 1989. At this time stamp it says copyright 1985.
There was a new Twin Bee game that came out in 1991, seems I used the wrong gameplay footage. www.arcade-history.com/?n=detana-twin-bee&page=detail&id=630 I'll need to make sure I check properly next time. I was in a rush to make a month's worth of videos before I went on holiday and it seems I made a couple of silly errors in this one.
Yes, you are correct. According to Arcade History it was re-released for CPS hardware in 1991, I saw it on the list for that year and it obviously threw me. Great game anyway.

It's good to see 1989 and 1985 games here in the top 20 games from 1991
Sinsteriders 10:58
More amazing memories. Especially Vendetta, Street Fighter 2 and S.C.I.
Turtles in Time should have been on this list for sure.

I didn't realise so many great games came out that year, I remember most of them in the arcades in Hayling and Southsea when they were new.
Same! I was at Pompey Uni (as it became whilst I was there) and spent a lot of my food money at the Golden Nugget
Can you please put your "Greatest Arcade Games" playlist in order by year?
I'll see what I can do, I never made it in order so that's why its like that.
@@TheLairdsLair Okay, thank you for responding :)

The best home port is the one for the Lynx, because they actually added extra features that aren't present in the arcade game.

@@TheLairdsLair I was not aware of the 1991 version. Is the 2nd Player still called Bin Twee?
@@TheLairdsLair Thanks for coming up with the great footage you do. Nothing wrong with posting a correction on something, once in a while,
twinbee recording shows 1985 not 1991
As mentioned elsewhere, I used the wrong clip and didn't notice.
Wasn't Strider released in 1989?

@@TheLairdsLair Thanks for the clarification :)
Laser ghost is such a rip off 😂
👍
Ah the year of SF2, remember it well!
