Fáilte George. Great video, Lady is looking fantastic and the pup will no doubt follow. As Woodcock guy I can well agree on game numbers and habitat loss. It’s a huge decline in action . Every place we visited this season has lost some ground, beggars belief. Habitat protection seems to be non existent. Still on we trot . Great video! Slán leat a cairde 🇮🇪
Unfortunately I think the large fields are the trend all over Europe now. I am in Denmark. The last couple of years they even started spraying the stubble, so not a single piece of green. Catastrophe for the hare and greylegged partridge who are suffering already
Fantastic glad I’ve found your channel, love watching dogs work, I’m a beater / shooter with spaniels and a new rubbish fly fisher 😂 so hopefully will get some good tips on the fishing. Keep them coming and hope you have a good rest of the season
Hi George. I've seen lady and can only describe her as first class. Hunter looks well on her way. Hunting in South tipperary is a different sport from when I started some 30 years ago. You seem to have some of the best land left. Lovely video to watch George thanks
I am from the southeast of Ireland, the level of wildlife habitat loss in the last few years has been enormous, ditches trees , scrubland removed for dairy cows. The ditches here in the area i live in are sprayed 3 times a year with roundup. they are bare with no vegetation. The EU and IFA are corrupt, facilitating Farmers to remove biodiversity from the Irish landscape, Greed and ignorance are the cause. Hopefully the next generation of people might reverse the damage that has been done. Happy Christmas
@@springerspanielful Everything changes. I think with climate change in the future ,we could see government and agriculture policy change completely. Small broadleaf forrests planted on most farms between 1 and 10 acres in size. Fallow strips of land for wildlife and pollinators. Bogs rewetted. Some degree of this will happen in the 20 years 🙂 there will be positive changes ahead.
@@macrolly23 I hope you are correct, although there's no sign of any of what you describe at present,it's worse it's getting, the destruction of the natural environment continues apace.
@@macrolly23 Do you think farmers will give us permission to hunt their land in future when they have made all those changes (paid for by taxpayer grants!)? I sincerely hope you are right but this is Ireland.
@@johnegan7622 I personally only go rough shooting maybe 3 times a year, personal life changes and lack of game are the cause. If there were more pheasants and places to hunt i would go shooting more. Even paid walked up pheasant shooting on estates or syndicate shoots is very scarce here in the South East of ireland. Maybe rough shooting syndicates with a part time keeper are the way forward if people could get access and permission on the right type of land.
Brilliant keep up the good work! I’m running a deaf ES. We use a vibrate collar instead of the whistle for her distance work. Almost 18 months old she’s still immature but she’s learning well.
Nice to see you giving young Hunter the time to develop hunting skills without excessive pressure or expectations. Happy Holidays and wishing all a great new year!
Hi George, 2 questions. First, what do you do about the dogs chasing fur? Second, can you tell me why you shoot snipes? Here in California we have to shoot steel and for a similar size of bird like doves I don't think the value of the meat is worth the value of the shot. Thanks for the video.
Some handlers train their dogs to ignore fur, personally I don't mind as a rabbit for example makes for a good stew. As for the snipe, they are good eating too albeit they are small, and I use their feathers to help me tie some very useful trout flies.
Nice one George. Great video and the dogs are going well. Can I ask in your opinion does shooting snipe over setters have any negative impact on their pheasants and woodcock hunting? A lot of lads in my neck of the woods would say a fellow would be mad to shoot snipe over setters as it would only encourage them to hunt the middle of fields and not focus more on the perimeter along ditches where pheasants and woodcock would be more likely to be. Saying that, with habitat loss I know that snipe might be the only game bird around to hunt in many areas.
If you're passionate about gundogs and shooting, don't miss this...

Same to you!
Some dogs, yout overall knowledge hunting and gundogs breeds is a breath of fresh air. Do you breed?
No longer breeding, thanks for the compliment.
Good stuff!
Glad you enjoyed it

Your last sentence sums it up,although a clever dog will hunt both the middle and perimeter of the field,Lady is one of those.
I would be interested in what gun you use please
I use an AYA number two round action in 12 bore.
