The last shrimper in our family “Carol Theriot aka Little Carol retired from shrimping this past year-as a coastal shrimper he made a good living for his family just like his father Carol Theriot senior from DuLarge -I shrimped with him and the family and helped build some of the boats -later i was able to help them retail their shrimp-the whole Theriot family was the soul of the bayou -times are different now but the family soul is still strong as we just had a family reunion of 200 strong faithful to God , America and Family
freezer boat, idk if they do the same as Vietnamese American people. when the boat goes out, they trawl 24/7 the engine run nonstop till they back to the dock. 1 trip normally is 25 days to 1month
good video, enjoyed it. was curious why there isnt some kind of work table to drop the shrimp down onto to sort. seems like all that bending down to sort would be bad for the back longterm.
Because the Shrimp this boat drags are large and you don't need to have a picking table. They handpick the shrimp and head them all at once. Putting a Table on the deck would take away the room they have. Atleast that's why we don't have one on the boat I work.
7 years ago we was making a good living. Last year they decided to kill commercial fishing .they paid 50 cents across the board for shrimps .third gen commercial fisherman i was all was told that it was a dying industry buddy last year they crippled it .compair to 2 years ago from good prices to 50 cents a pound from small to jumbo.
I miss my uncle ted. My father had the Star Dipper.
