The mystery fish is a Violet Goby, they can get up to about 28 inches in length, they are near blind and have a modified anal fin that acts as a suction cup to latch on to stuff. They are often sold in the pet trade as dragonfish and mislabeled as freshwater, but they require a very specific salt content to thrive, so catching one is a good sign the ecosystem is healthy.

Loved the video! I live in Tennessee but we have relatives in Alabama and was invited to come work the summer on one of their friend's scrimp boats. Mom said I was too young, 15. I have regretted that my entire life. I did however spend the next summer in Myrtle Beach SC at my uncle's campground, [Lakewood Family Campground] helping clear and build camp sites. That is another story for another time. Have a blessed day and keep up the good work, my friend. PB

Warms this Canadian's heart to hear Blue Gabe slip into a Louisiana drawl! I love watching that Shrimping Boat work, what a treat to see how and where the shrimp we use for fishing and of course eating comes from. Up here most of the shrimp we eat on the west coast are Spot Prawns and they are caught in traps due to the depth, and the rocky terrain and reef formations. That said they are sweet little jewels and about 3x the size of the southern species of Shrimp from the Louisiana bayou. Love the videos Gabe, where to next Brother?

are white and brown shrimp get pretty big but as they mature they move off shore. cause of the coast line the big ones are harder and fewer the further out. typically them door nets do commercial food and aren't brought back alive, bringing in thousands of pounds a trip. a trip lasting several days.

    GREAT VIDEO, Frens!
I grew up going shrimping with my Dad, my brother, and my sister (sometimes)... Dad had a 32' setback trawl and pulled it with a 15' bateau... we'd go down to the marsh around Golden Meadow and pull in the canals and inland lakes down there. I hated it at the time because we'd get eaten up by mosquitoes & deerflies, and it was a lot of work once the first drag was dumped in the box. Looking back, I was young and just didn't know what good times were back then! The best part was that we kept all we caught, and had shrimp in the freezer all winter long!
    God bless ALL of us!

that was great Blue Gabe. I helped a mate of mine for a few weeks by driving his boat prawning/shrimping in Australia. Unfortunately I only drove the boat, 63' and he and a deck hand worked the gear and sorted the catch so I didn't get to know what we were doing. Now I do. We did haul direct over the stern rather than the side like you did. Thanks for sharing.

I made those “fancy knots” when tying up our boat. After the cleat, and the extra line would just hang, so I would do that braid it on the dock and it is pretty and functional. Great video 🥰

Zack made shrimping look easy! It’s not. All the tweaking on the throttle and the winch at just the right time plus steering the boat so the lines don’t get hung up takes years of doing this every day to be that efficient at it.
