    Great video man! This is definitely the issue with my car. Mechanic changed the seal and left the original balancer and it's still spewing oil like crazy. I can almost guarantee if he just did the job the correct way like you did and replaced the balancer and seal together, it would have been fixed.

      Thanks. I'm not perfect, I had seals fail 6 months later despite replacing seal and harmonic balancer. Usually you can get away with just the seal replacement in something this new.

    You probably didn't need the puller.
    You made a mistake, you should locktite the new seal in, those seals are super loose with pace to work themselves out and they like to do it. Torque spec is around 70 foot pounds, I think I remember 77 but I'm not sure, you'd want to look at the book but you should torque it down not just hit it with the impact.

    thanks again, that’s 1,000% better than it was before!! (don’t knock my chevy)🤣

    So I did this, didn't replace balancer. Mistake. I've been shredding belts and the tensioner bolt through the middle keeps snapping. So - remove alt and ac compressor remove bracket, dremel groove in bolt and flathead drive back out. Replace balancer. Belt shredded - again. Took out CV boot. Ugh.
    My question tho is this: where does the SOFT vacuum hose on back of brake booster pump land on other end? It was wrapped around axel after last catastrophe. Help is appreciated.

    looks like the oil was overfilled, oil level suppose to be below both the front and rear crank seals. did you change the PCV valve? that's a another thing that can cause oil leak due to crankcase pressure..

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  Před 3 lety +1

      It was simply a defective seal

      @@partsshooter I bet GM used cheap seals. I have to do one on a 2014 equinox later on today and from what I see online front crank seals on Ecotec engines are a real common failure.

      @partsshooter  Před 3 lety +1

      . Chevy just doesn't have tight tolerances... It makes for a poor operating engine with little margin for error.
      5w30 as a standard oil isn't going to hit tighter crevices as as 5w/20 or 0w/20. And youre likely correct, cheap material. However I have to place responsibility on the owner due to infrequent oil changes in more than frequent cases😂

    Are you working on the passager side of the vehicle cause mines leaking in the front

  • @MegaHugro
    @MegaHugro Před 3 lety

    Good job. Doing mine soon, but I'm springing for a new OEM bolt from the GM dealer for $9 because it is a Torque to Yield fastener that shouldn't be reused.

    Do you know enough about the EcoTec engine? The oil pump is integrated into the timing cover, so if doing a seal or chain replacement should I replace entire timing cover too?

    • @DevonBbrown
      @DevonBbrown Před 2 lety

      No you don't need to replace the timing cover

    What can cause the problem

    • @partsshooter
      @partsshooter  Před 3 lety

      Likely due to lack of oil change... Inferior part, lack of lubrication or simply age [normal wear and tear] -in that order

      @@partsshooterneed to replace crank bolt, and you need to torque it to the trque spec and torque angle... Hope the boot don't fail. It's a torque to yield bolt ..

      @partsshooter  Před rokem

      @@useritscarrot you're correct, it's 111ft lbs and a additional 100 degrees.
      However, lugs on a tire should be torqued, I don't use a torque wrench and haven't had one fall off yet! Priority and common sense.
