  • Minneapolis, Minnesota's Brainerd Raceway hosted the NHRA Quaker State Northwest Nationals in 1990 when the track had its first sub 5 seconds runs in top fuel. Cool and damp air conditions made great for power and traction, and fires kept some of the drivers warm too. I've boosted the audio volume on Steve Evans pit reports and interviews since they were drastically reduced on the source video. There is now a more balanced audio on this ESPN/Diamond P production all the way through.

When John Force's car burns down to a cinder after a fast run. It doesn't stop him one bit. But I've seen others that burnt their cars more times than Force. Whit Bazemore has burned down more funny cars than John Force and way more than "Flash" Gordon Mineo.

You drive a funny car long enough and its bound to happen. One thing about Force, what a tough sob. Mid 40s, and falls hard on the pavement with his shoulder and gets only a bruise. Bruce Larson did it a little more cautiously 23:14
