- Is Hartlepool safe? As we were riding to Hartlepool, locals in other towns expressed concern about our decision to spend a couple of nights there.
Have we Aussies made a naive decision that we'll soon regret?
Come see:
- The streets of Hartlepool.
- The HMS Trincomalee interior and exterior at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool. It's the oldest warship still afloat in Europe!
- The Heugh Battery Museum, which is at the site of the Bombardment of Hartlepool and preserves the only First World War battlefield in the UK.
- The Hartlepool Art Gallery's Tall Ships exhibition.
- The way the gates work at the Hartlepool Marina.
Come for a ride and look at maritime attractions with me! 🚴⚓ See what it's like to deal with the locals as a foreigner.

Great museum
Loved it! I'm an Aussie from Belmont in NSW who bought a house in Hartlepool. I think you did a great job showcasing my adopted city. Thank you!
Thanks Peter, I could have spent more time there 😄. The people I talked to were very friendly and I thought the town was waiting to be rediscovered and rejuvenated.
I really enjoyed your video, the ship was in excellent condition and you did a really great job of showing casing all the details. My father is a Navy veteran here in America, I'm going to send him a link to your video because I know he would enjoy it too.
Thanks as a navy veteran myself I like exploring maritime museums and old ships but I must admit I love diesel submarines the most, DBF. The romance of sail is an irresistible draw however I am sure it was a very hard life for very tough men.
@@adventuresofafatman You're welcome and thank you for your service. I don't know much about ships but I love watching videos about ships on here. I'm actually taking a trip to Hartlepool later on this year, I look forward to seeing this ship in person.
As an avid reader of Captain Blood, I really enjoyed seeing the details of such an old ship. Gobsmacked at the size of it and the number of decks below. Glad you visited Hartlepool despite its reputation. Also liked the impressive oil paintings in the art gallery.
I was weened on the the Hornblower series so I was very interested in touring the frigate. If you haven't read Hornblower I strongly recommend it. Also the bio of Admiral Cochrane, you won't believe it's actually true. Thanks for the comment Karan I hope all is well at home and your new challenge is proceeding well. PJ talks of you often
I'll have to look those up. Thanks!
Just subscribed and enjoy your humour
Can you give more details on your bikes and set up please?
We certain will in a future episode go through the bikes and our basic kit. But until then, because you asked, our current bikes are steel Tout Terrain Amber Road with P.18 pinion gearboxes coupled with belt drives and SON dynamo hubs with lighting plus usb charging. The bikes we used in Spain, Portugal and France were aluminium ex-hire bikes.
How many people would have been serving on it?
Their tonnage ranged from 700 to 1450 tons, with crews of about 300 men, so they really packed them in
Is Hartlepool safe? Whoever told you it isn't is an idiot.. As a woman, I would feel perfectly safe walking alone, anywhere in the town. We have some dodgy folk and addicts same as everywhere but overall it's absolutely fine.
Since our experience, I absolutely agree with you. I liked it. We would definitely go back for another visit.
Hartlepool folk are great safe and friendly don't let keyboard warriors deter you
The monkey business is a myth, a story not historic truth. Now a torurist trick.
Interesting. Thanks!
