For those who don’t know, The Hu weren’t first, before them there was Tengger Cavalry and Hurd. And they won’t be the last. Mongolian rock is alive, and it’s becoming a whole new scene.

Before Tengger Cavalry, there were many other Mongolian folk metal bands like Altan Urag (Mongolia) Hanggai( Inner Mongolia) Nine Treasures (Inner Mongolia). Altan urag is the original one. Almost 20 years ago.

And if you're curious, go back to the source and check out Huun Huur To for example(live on KEXP is great). Kinda like how traditional blues is the where most classic rock comes from.

Music to make you feel powerful; proud, passionate and celebrates one's culture.
You can imagine these guys riding across the steppe with the great Chinggis Khan (Temujin Borjigin) at their head.
It would be nice if someone provided Anglicised versions of Mongolian so those of us who do not read Mongolian can sing along in their language.

This is amazing. When I was young, we didn't have the internet. We discovered new music by word of mouth, by blindly ordering cassettes or vinyl from the back of a zine (they might or might not ever show up), or going to see shows. It was always so thrilling to discover something new that spoke to you. Finding music like this gives me that thrill again.

Exactly, Hanggai is pretty awesome, they have a wide range of styles. Altan Urag & Yat-Kha are nice as well. I discovered Sedaa lately, they mix Mongol and Persian influences and are stunning, but less "metal" (İ recommend "Tun Zeerd Mori"❤️♥️💕). Kam Ata is also quite nice (Turkish lyrics, dark and atmospheric). ...Üch-Süme-R, Hun Huur Tu, and there a A LOT MORE once you start follow "recommendations" on spotify or youtube.

I can't help but feel that it's like a mix of Metallica, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest rolled into one. Incredible! Most refreshing.
