  • If you’ve ever so much as installed a competitive FPS, there is one ever-present question you’ll never stop asking yourself: What sensitivity should I play on?
    From cracked high sens-kiddies to OG low-sens arm-aiming Counter-Strike aficionados, this might just be the single most hopelessly unanswerable question in gaming.
    For some players it’s what haunts them every time they hop in the server, causing them to smash escape every time they lose a gun fight.
    So, what is this so-called God sens? Well, let's find out together.

    I always try to get my sensitivity to feel like my hand/arm movement matches the distance travelled in game. It helps to feel in control of the character. If it's too high I feel like it is completely out of control but if it's too low I feel like it's unresponsive, no matter how much easier it might be to hit accurate shots.

  • @Frightning
    @Frightning Před 3 lety +7

    I learned the solution to this problem a long time ago (literally over 15 years ago), it's actually pretty basic when you think about it, and it's not a hard number either. Here's how you get the best sensitivity for your own setup:
    1) Figure out how much hand movement is comfortable to do and do quickly with your setup (this may be constrained by space if you don't have much room for your mouse, or it just my be a matter of how you sit at your setup and how your rest your hand on the mouse).
    2) Once you've figured out #1, tune the sensitivity in game so that, starting roughly in the middle of your available space, you have enough range of motion to turn about 210 degrees in either direction comfortably, and quickly (you wanna be able to do a 180+ some wiggle room easily and very quickly if needed).
    3) Once you've got this value in the ballpark, don't change it for a while. Give yourself plenty of time to get used to it, you need to (re)program your muscle memory and that *will* take time and practice. Practice for consistency first, speed second, if you try too hard to be quick, you'll be training inconsistency and which will lead to bad (inaccurate) flicks.
    The reason why you want the sensitivity only as high as is needed to do #2 on this list is because any higher and your just giving away potential precision for no reason, you don't need more than ~210 degrees of motion in each direction to comfortably be able to point yourself in any direction you need to.

    I used to play CSGO with mouse acceleration on (by accident) and after watching this video I think it makes sense to actually use it. I actually got really used and good with acceleration on (take into account it was only on 1.05 or something like that). I was faster in game when I wanted to be (because of quikly flicking or checking corners) and I was slower when I needed to be precise. The more and more I think about it, the more acceleration actually makes sense. People always dubbed it to be "inconsistent", but it's actually just as consistent as not using it. You just need to know how quikly to move your arm/wrist, which basically just translates to muscle memory.

      Might not be a thing now but originally mice had "native" dpi steps be every 400 dpi. Probably would never notice a difference between a native dpi step and one that's not but is a thing. So it was 400 or 800 and some ppl messed with 1200 and 1600. Not even sure what dpi's are typically native now I like how 800 dpi feels on desktop

    • @ameserich
      @ameserich Před rokem

      They should be using 1000 DPI. Since 1920x1080 are the resolution, 2 inch movement = 2000Pixel(+80) and 1 inch movement is 1000Pixel(-80)

    • @clatzeo
      @clatzeo Před 3 měsíci

      DPI debate is already over. The in-game sensitivity is what's still going to manipulate the DPI numbers, so now we are in the era of eDPI which is Sensitivity*DPI.
      It's dots to travel per 1inch of mouse movements. The more dots there are, the more precise the mouse movement will be. The higher the better
      The actual debate about DPI is related to "whether you need higher or not?", to which I say go for the higher number UNTIL the game cannot catch up with the precision.
      Like some games don't even have 2nd decimal digit precision. I have played Far Cry 1 and that game has a very poor sensitivity-controlling "slider" by default.
      To get very controlled cross-hair control, I instead have to lower my mouse DPI to the lowest number possible or else the high DPI makes the sens slider useless. It's like 1-10, but no 1.1 or 5.7 etc.
      So older games require low DPI to make the sensitivity-slider be useable. The newer games are coming with more "precise" sensitivity sliders, which can help leverage the more "dots per inch of movement" precision. And this is the reason that 1600 DPI is just what the folks lock-in because most newer games goes well with it compared to old games which were released on the era when 400 DPI was the default on most mouse.

  • @SurfingSerpent
    @SurfingSerpent Před 3 lety +2

    I also agree that your sensitivity should be as high as you can handle, while still being able to control the small movements that are required for your game. Everybody's sensitivity threshold is different, but identifying the highest possible threshold while still maintaining precision is important. You never want to go lower unless it's absolutely necessary, because then you're capping your potential.

    • @clatzeo
      @clatzeo Před 3 měsíci

      The same talk can actually go the other way. As higher sens loses control, lower sens gains more control while reducing the speed of your movements. The more control you have the more you can leverage it.
      This is the reason higher refresh rate monitors sell, because they give more control to make decision quicker. The same goes for mouse refresh rate, and the same goes for sens.
      The more control of the situation the better. It's just that Sensitivity has trade off attached to it.
      You are right about the potential part. If a certain sens allows you to leverage certain abilities of yours which can only be utilized from certain sens, then play to your strengths would be preferred in competing scenarios.

    2:37 It's important to note that while high dpi can create noise and/or other problems, using a very low dpi can create pixel skipping; especially at high sensitivities. So try to stay somewhere in the middle. I personally think that 400 dpi, thought very common isn't optimal. Depending on your mouse you might encounter problems if you go higher than 3200 dpi. That's why I like to recommend 800 to 1600 dpi.

      as someone who played everything between 600 and 2000, what matters is changing the sens over time to find the one that works for YOU at THAT TIME, for me every week I analyse my aim and increase or decrease my sens acordingly, and my sens used to be high, like I could do a 360 with my wrist high and still hit headshots like nobody's business, and overtime it went down to average levels and now increasing again, I noticed that I cant hit flicks anymore as I started playing valorant so its increasing
      and if you are wondering, for some fucking reason I can no longer hit headshots, I used to be simple and now I'm just a filthy casual, I just don't get it, I used to be so good and it hurts me knowing that I used to be able hit shots that I no longer can T_T

  • @owconundrum9928
    @owconundrum9928 Před 3 lety +3

    Very good video. except for one thing:
    If you ever talk about sensitivity across multiple FPS games, instead of using eDPI and relying on the games inner multiplier, you should use cm/360 or in/360 as that is the same across all games. For example 1300 eDPI in CS:GO is about 4333 eDPI in Overwatch, while they are both 31.97cm/360, so it might make a little less confusing (I was probably the only confused person but still).
    Other than that I found this video really interesting. As an Overwatch player, it's interesting to see how a low sens in OW is high on others. For example s1mple's sensitivity is lower than the average Overwatch League DPS player cm/360, and just a little higher than the average Overwatch League Hitscan player's cm/360, while high sensitivity in Overwatch, like Pine's(Player known for his legendary plays on the New York Excelsior in season 1 of the OWL, now playing for the Dallas Fuel) sensitivity, which is about double than that of Asuna's or s1mple's, while simultaneously being one of the most insane Hitscan players in OW's history.

    allow me to correct some points here:
    1) tenz edpi gravitates around the 300 not 900+
    2) you can do fast flicks playing in low sens, I play with 264 edpi in every single one of my games from valorant to overwatch and I can track with no problems.
    3) you HAVE to stick with one sens if you want to be consistent, aiming wit keyboard and mouse is a mechanical ability that’s why you use Koovaks or aimlabs to train your raw mechanics.
    4) playing wit the Highest sens you can without losing control is the perfect recipe to injures, bad habits and frustration, is like wanting to learn how to use a chef knife but instead of learning how to grab it properly and how to position your other hand over the food in a claw to avoid cutting your godam fingers!, you start chopping like a champ until it happens.
    5)professional valorant edpi is around 300 not 1000.

When PUBG came out and my mates got me on it I had to raise my sensitivity because low sensitivity in that game is hard work! And that completely messed with my CS aim, I’m now on 400dpi and 1.8 in game (tried 1.2/1.4/1.6) and I found the best test for me is to use the aimbotz training workshop and play the 100 kill challenge, I found that for me personally 1.8 in game got me the best consistent times and I had beat my original time on 0.9 sens by a large amount. But let’s face it sensitivity is very personal, and changing sensitivity takes days to adjust too.

    regardless of your game, start anywhere between 25cm/360 (high sens) and 50cm/360 and you'll be fine. I personally never strayed out of the 35cm/360 to 43cm/360 range though. You can literally play any game with that and be good. OW might be 35, CS might be 43 for instance. Nothing wrong with using different sens for different games either. Pretty much a myth. Also fun fact: this range will be considered low or high depending on who looks at it. CS will consider everything here outside of 50 high, while any new PC player will think anything under 20 is 'too low to game with'.

    One thing that it should have mentioned in the video IMO: CS, specially since CSGO, players prefer lower sens because is WAY easier to learn & execute recoil spray patterns (thanks to again, limited verticality of its meta), if you jank up your mice sens, with enough practise you perfectly gonna be able to land tap&burst frags but you will have it extremelly hard to get multifrags sprays which is also given by the anatomy of the human hand and the desk

    Btw muscle memory is a myth in aiming, so technically you should be okay even changing your sens everyday, so don't be afraid of changing it until you find what you feel comfortable with

    • @hailyeah8657

      No it isnt just try swaping crouch and jump buttons and play a match you will know. It will take you days to adjust and get used to it. Muscle memory isn't about sensitivity its about game mechanics. Muscle memory tells you how much you should flick or move to aim and shoot irrespective of sensitivity.

      @@ion9753 ??. Its muscle memory when u are in a game u will 100% hit crouch instead of jump because your brain adapted to it and it will take time to make ur brain adapt to the new snap controls.

      @hailyeah8657 Před 2 lety +1

      @@ion9753 umm yeah but it takes less time to adjust to a new sensitivity. When your brain knows the game mechanics and how guns fire and work then it can adjust to variety of sensitivity. Changing sensitivity won't affect much u will get used to it quickly
