Frankie Dettori masterclass: Mostahdaf downs Paddington in £1 million Juddmonte International

- Frankie Dettori produced a brilliant front-running ride aboard Mostahdaf as he lowered the colours of Paddington in a thrilling edition of the 2023 £1 million Juddmonte International Stakes at York.
Deputising for the suspended Jim Crowley aboard John and Thady Gosden’s Royal Ascot scorer, Dettori wasted little time in bouncing the 3-1 second favourite out of the stalls and quickly into stride.
The Italian set perfect fractions as the Shadwell-owned five-year-old made every yard of the running to record a length success over stable companion Nashwa who gave Hollie Doyle a dream spin.
Although Ryan Moore received the desired response when asking Paddington to close the gap in the home straight, he ultimately had no answer to Mostahdaf who kept finding extra under an ultra-confident Dettori as he registered a length success and followed up the owner’s victory in the Group One contest with the imperious Baaeed 12 months ago.
Aidan O'Brien lamented the fact that he maybe he had pulled "the elastic band too long" with Paddington having his seventh race in the space of five months.

I backed Mosthdaf, but let us salute what Paddington has achieved so far this season.
Well said. He's made an average season bearable and after a break he will be back. Horse of the Season for me
Absolutely.
@@suemaher5282 Average is a strange assessment. When there was great battles in Derby, Oaks, King George and now York.
2000 Guineas champs went head to head. Just a pity Mawj v Tahiyra never went fight 2.
As usual the sprints have been dull as sponsors is below average.
@@joemac9249 Well u have your opinion I have mine be boring if we all thought the same.
@@suemaher5282 Well I enjoyed watching Warm Heart as I backed her just there. Also in Royal Ascot 😂
Lots of joy to be had.
Get in there Frankie!
Frankie dettori. Take a bow.
That was an absolute beauty, great to watch
BRILLIANT ride from the front absolutely exquisite and nobody could dare fault Dettori this time he has been a different man this year now it's a real pity he is retiring because he is riding so well we will miss him when he's gone that was a masterclass today 10/10 and i backed him! i was on :)))
Looking back I wanted to say fairplay for keeping faith. This horse finished last in an Arc and The St James Palace. Lessons don't right class horses off.
I thought he was a solid bet but i didn't pile in until the gates opened i wasn't sure sure he was going to lead but once i saw him leading i knew he would take a fair bit of pegging back even though he is a hold up horse in a small field like that in front is always the best place to be he's a very classy horse terrific stuff from Frankie , brilliant precision @@joemac9249
and it's no secret i can't stand that o'brien yolk , listening to him is purgatory ....putrid gobble de gook
Bravo Frankie!!
Tu eres el mejor 👍👌
Y muchas Felicitaciones!!
Seguirás en mis oraciones! 🙏
Grandiosos saludos y Abrazos para mi jockey num 1, mi extraordinario corredor de caballos
De Noemi de México! 🇲🇽
Frankie is the GOAT...and that's official!
He's been the GOAT for over thirty years.
2nd Greatest Behind a Certain Mr Lester Piggot
@@kevinmunday6263 I'm certain that's Mr piggott
The stewards will definitely have a look...
I still have VHS from 98 he was g.o.a.t.❤
Dettori pulled a heist here, that was the only way he could've won... by not giving Paddington any chance... I still think Paddington is a monster though! Well done Frankie and the Ghosdens
One of Frankie's very best rides, he drained the finishing kick out of Paddington. Paddington is probably best at a mile, i would be surprised if he runs in the Champion Stakes(10f) in October.
It was a great race with the Mostahdaf, Paddington, and Nashwa all running their best ever races. Aiden O'Brien was implying that Paddington had race fatigue. If he thinks about this in the cold light of day he will surely accept that Paddington ran the race of his career.
@@countbelalucozade If Paddington had finished say 4 lengths back in third place then you could say race fatigue was probably a factor, but he was a length and neck away from Mostahdaf.
@@rivergold4835 After Brigadier Gerard's defeat by Roberto in this race a good few were claiming that his victory in the King George had taken a toll on him, the time for that race and the distance to the third placed
Gold Rod did not back that up.
@@countbelalucozadeBrigadier Gerard was spitting mucus out of his mouth after the race, Mercer said he felt flat and he knows better than anyone.
@@Zarkava8 Dick Hern (trainer), and John Hislop (owner& breeder) made no excuses. The mucus was brought on by Roberto setting and sustaining a fantastic gallop.
Mosthdaf's form now makes Equinox some kind of monster.
Very well done. Paddington will be back hopefully after a well-deserved rest. JG makes me laugh saying he always allows the jockey a blank canvas to ride his race, yet he bollocked frankie and practically suspended him after the ride on Stradivarius!
I had said that Paddington, would win, but I have to take my hat off to Frankie, and Mosthdaf!! That was a amazing race!! I was rooting for Paddington, but I think the best horse, won, today!! So, Congratulations to all of the connections and this is another race, that Frankie, will always remember, defeating the great Paddington!! But he will have a next time!!!!
Yes to be fair Ryan must be tired of Mostadaf now.
Yes, he must be, but Frankie, ended up being the victor!!
Janet remember the horse that goes past the lollipop first is the best horse
@@janetmarshall7171 Yes but Luxembourg was also beat by Mostadaf so it's not all Frankie 👌
Well, Frankie did what he had to do to win!!
To be fair I thought Paddington fought quite well on the ground. They can still challenge for 10f G1s but they will need some ease to reverse form.
Dettori master class, wasn't going to let it be a false pace on this occasion.
Master class indeed.
Couldn’t do it on Gregory though…
He actually used his brain or Gosdens. Bet Jim Crowley wishes he'd been on him today. Nice horse. Paddington needs a break
@@JPwhoknows That comment makes as much sense as saying Moore couldn't do it on Paddington though, besides, this is a group one, just as little fact there.
@@nightowl7459 not really though, as Dettori on Gregory blew the start could of just sat back and held him up like Ryan? Instead of rousting him along wasting all his energy fighting for the lead.
Ryan was still pulling Paddington at end
Great Frankie. You still make the difference! Nice to see you win till the end of your astonishing career...
Bookies were giving money away today @3s. so much hype.
OBrien admitting he made a mistake, I thought it was the "lads" who entered the horses.
It's a pity you don't get paid for those salty comments. That would make them more bearable.
4th to Equinox in the Sheema Classic was good but this one ain’t bad
Congratulations princess
Reat race .powerful horses. And great jokey..thanks ..
Very surprised on the odds of Paddington... Mostahdaf is now 6/6 first up? Or maybe 7/7?
The Foxes would probably be a good chance in the Cox Plate out in Australia
He would probably beat any Aussie 10 furlong horse by 4 or 5 lengths.
Brilliant horse MOSTAHDAF . Thank you all. Sheikh hamdan Al maktoum great man. May the good luck continue. Brilliant 👏 👏 👏
Another home bred too
Fairn Play Aiden his own biggest critic.
WARNING: FOLLOWING A FRANKEL IN EVERY GROUP 1 RACE IN ENGLAND THIS SEASON WILL SERIOUSLY ENHANCE YOUR BANK BALANCE
😂😂😂
You're right and it has. 💷 💷 💷 👍😀
Absolutely right 👍
Thank God i was not on Frankel in this race 😂
@@FortifyBerg Too bad!.I certainly was, and Mostahdaf's win netted me a four figure amount.
Some man trained by Paddington # the Real man to comment that its baby boy but he's still run well 💪👌🐎
This horse won because of Jockey
Anyone seen Martin Lewis? Can’t find him anywhere and he’s deleted all his comments saying Paddington would win Easily…
He must be sick as the winner trained by the Gosdens and ridden by Frankie.
@@Kevin-lf4xx and beating AP horses hahaha must be bankrupt
@@Kevin-lf4xxThat's what makes this race even more satisfying, Lewis is a real Coolmore cult member.
One of the worst trainers in Britain saddled the first two and one of the most over rated jockeys rode Ryan to sleep giving weight for age, Hardly going to hear from the clown for a day or two. ( Preferably never again ). . We will hear from him in October when the mighty Auguste Rodin wins the Arc as he predicted. If not in March when Impaire en Passe destroys Constitution Hill over hurdles or Facile Vega destroys CH in the Arkle ???????????
Good ride by Frankie but not Moore should have kept closer.
There is a problem with the majority of Ballydoyles horse , note results over past few weeks even in Ireland
Your confused there 😂
The best ones are running in York this week 👍
Some are getting ready for Champions weekends and Breeders cup.
❤
Reminded me of Dubai Millennium
Such a small field for such big prize money.
1 Million pound race with only 4 horses.
Oh yeah Mostadaf is winner of bad race! I tell you what let's have Stoneage and High Definition in 5th and 6th 👍
Paddington is a sub 125 horse. He is very ordinary champ 3 yo
Just shows how bad racing is gone in the u.k these days so
Always nice when Timeform staff join the chat on CZcams.
Fantastic ride and a fantastic horse. Maybe one to many races for Paddington? Maybe he isn’t as good as they think. Weak form beating a poor Guineas winner in chaldean and a regressive Emily Upjohn. 3/1 was a gift. But never forget, Paddington was an absolute CERTAINTY #knowledgeispower
paddington looked vulnerable and did anyone else see the way he carried his head sideways when put under maximum pressure never a good sign
When he was parading he kept shaking his head as though the midges had got in his ears then as u say his head sideways looked odd.
Is this the first time you have watched Paddington run?
iv'e seen all his races and i was not convinced that he was a "super horse" and after today less sure with his awkward head carriage for me he was a lay and Mostahdaf the bet the value bet you have to be against the crowd to make it pay and as a bonus it was nice to see hopefully obviously fairly shaken after the race :PP now, paddington me arse @@johnsonkevin1
@@johnsonkevin1 No its not and yesterday he just looked like he was feeling something. I know it's a trait of his just looked worse yesterday
I did and also that Mostahdaf was the only horse gulping the air through his mouth into his lungs to get the oxygen to his heart so he could run flat out.
he's back again at the listen!!! hahahaha and the tie is not straight ....got his ass kicked that time genius me boll x John Gosden totally different , different gravy to hear , school masterly intelligent doesn't waste a word hmmm or haw or say listen! if there is a Genius it's him
A fix if I ever seen one.
Only ever seen a screw fix 😂
Paddington arse must be sore, the fk you watched?
Million pound races are not fixed!
😊🎉🎉❤
Paddington the hype is ended
Ran very well beaten by a very good horse
@@johnbatch9276 over hyped
I disagree Paddington is a good horse 5 group one's testify to that that is not hype
@@johnbatch9276 I'm talking about some people were starting to compare it to Frankel.
@@smallsmalls3889 Frankel was probably incomparable and is up.there with the greats from other generations it's hard to make comparisons with horses from the past there have been lots
Who are the best jockeys at the moment apart from the obvious?
Billy loughnane, Dylan Browne Mc Monagle and saffie Osborne
@@duanedurkan3565 Thanks. I’ve only been following/betting on it for about a year. From my experience Daniel Tudhope rarely lets me down and Jim Crowley. Sean Bowen aswell over the fences seems to win a lot.
@@drewponticorvo278 No problem at all mate. Billy rode me a nice winner yesterday at 2/1. He's very good. Bowen is definitely well able and Jim Crowley is a good jockey aswell. I like Sam Twiston Davies aswell even though some of my racing friends don't rate him. I always loved him. My favourite ride was when he got the new one up at Aintree one year at 2/5. It took excellent skill to get it up. I love watching that ride on CZcams. He wouldn't give in.
@@duanedurkan3565 I know billy was flying on the aw a few months ago..I backed him a few times yesterday aswell just typically not a winner…Twist always seems good yeah especially when he’s on his dads (I think) horses…I always avoid Buick and Hayley turner.
@@drewponticorvo278 Buick is the pits. I don't mind Hollie as much but she's definitely not my favourite. I can't stand buick. The only jockeys in racing I think are more useless are Graeme lee and Jody Townend. Both are completely useless. Jody Townend shouldn't be allowed near a horse other than a rocking horse. Buick is either useless or he's taking brown envelopes. I haven't met anyone in a bookie in a long time that likes buick. Everyone knows he's a waste of space.
I don't think Paddington could have beaten Mosthadaf even if this had been a mile race.
Another Frankel we were told. 😂
I didn't hear many or any people say even as good as Baaeed or STS. Maybe just Martin.
Which was actually great.
People do get carried away.
Me personally Frankel and STS were freaks of nature 😂
My thoughts all along would be Paddington would need to come back as 4 year old and 6 more Group 1s👍
@@joemac9249 Joe , there has been plenty in the press about it. O'Brian is one of the great trainers but the Coolmore folk like to use hype. I would love to see Paddington as a 4 year old but it won't happen, sadly. The owners will pack him.off to stud. They use the scatter gun approach when it comes to stallions. Juddmonte are the masters. I have no interest in this, other than I wish the genius O'Brian had owners who had the game at heart and not finance.
It was fixed before the race started. Now they are going to retired the Paddington
What a catastrophic ride of Ryan Moore...
What you on about 😆😆😂😂 clueless!!!!
Are u joking. These horses aren't machines nothing to do with Ryan
Just accept defeat gracefully.masterclass by dettori
Incorrect!!
Would you have won on Paddington perhaps you could be an advisor to jockeys.🤐
4 horse glorified training gallop. What a joke British racing has become
Cracking race, with 3 genuine group 1 horses fighting out the finish.
And giving the O'Brien superstar 6 pounds... Moore bum boys very quiet...
why does paddington hang his head to the right
Paddington is a miler and Gregory is a 2 miler. It's a pity the 2 geniuses couldn't place their horses in the right races. I wonder has O' Brian destroyed another horse like he destroyed little big bear and auguste Rodin. He can destroy as many as he wants. It won't bother me anymore coz I won't be backing them. Gordon Elliott is a joke aswell. Mullins Is the man. I won't be complaining about O' Brian or Elliott coz I won't be backing them again unless the horse is a machine that can bail them out
Paddington won the eclipse over a mile and a quarter so you can't say that. Paddington just wasn't good enough today.
@@michaeladams9205 I knew somebody was gonna say that. It was obvious. Emily upjohn is shit. He beat a very ordinary horse. His class over a mile won the day. O'Brien's opinion isn't what it was. That's why he destroyed Paddington, auguste Rodin and little big bear in the same season. Just because a horse stays a trip beyond it's ideal doesn't mean it's the trip they should be campaigned over.
I doubt "the lads" would agree with you. They have a dual Derby winner a 4 time group one winner and a good sprinter to go to stud. Hardly say that was destroying horses.
@@michaeladams9205 he's lucky they're able to stand up in stud after he destroyed them. Most horses would be on their knees. See auguste Rodin getting tailed off last time and he fell inn in the Irish Derby.Everyone knows Aidan has had his day and his positioning of horses is a disgrace.
I don't understand what you are talking about
Another Pommie 4 horse group 1 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. So exciting omg. I guess 4 is better than 3 hahaha. No wonder their racing industry is in shambles
Quality over size... I realise that's a difficult one for Australians..
@@corinnerivers Quality is in your own biased mind. Your horses train and race on absolute bog tracks. Your soft is our heavy. Cannot compare when the ground is so different. You don’t ever get a genuine ‘good’ track over there.
I am sure you had more than 4 horses to run that race. Your racing industry is going backwards whilst ours is booming. Enjoy 😂😂😂😂
I suppose, that is wh, Aussie racing, is watched by no-one !!!!
