    It's a little thing called not ruinning a Legacy. Nick has left... So it's just the two original dude. Yeh, Josh has a successful band, but considering Kyuss wants to make a new album under the name just Kyuss. It's stupid. I don't want a new album by "Kyuss" If Josh isn't involved.

    Nick mentioned in another interview(which is on youtube) that Kyuss Lives! got a new management team whilst he had to deal with his "personal problems". This new management group were the same guys who dropped Nick Oliveri's band Mondo Generator and he was a bit pissed off at the idea of them managing the band, which is fair enough! I'm pretty sure that the problem was caused by the new management team because Brant and John Garcia don't seem to be the dickhead type guys who'd get legal on this.

    He was a key player in what created the band and he has rights under the name Kyuss - a band which no longer eixsts. They are using a bootleg version of the name in order to sell merch (while still playing older material at the same time, created under the name Kyuss, mind you) and not give any money to scott/josh for any sales. They need to use a different name and not ride the coat tails of the Kyuss past or agree to fork over a percentage of sales to the people who made that band what it is.

    With all due respect, Kyuss, playing Kyuss songs without Josh, is just not Kyuss.

    Funny about all the Homme fans here. C'mon guys, Kyuss was all about the lonely trippy landscapes of the deserts, and was the result of 4 men working, not just Homme, even though we wrote much of the music. Not letting the guys do new Kyuss stuff confirms my fear of Homme loving the money more than the music. EVERYBODY knows he will not be a part of new Kyuss so a future failure wouldn't touch the legend he helped to create Besides he's into new poppy stuff, he doesnt have the Kyuss spirit anymo

    So many people are so quick to judge Josh's decision even though they have no real clue as to where Josh's thought process is coming from. He was in the band, he was one of the biggest creative forces within the band in which he wrote a lot of the songs and now he is no longer in the band and they are trying to use the same name without his consent. Josh definitely is in the right with the suit against his former band. If I was in that situation I wouldn't want my former band to use the same name if I wasn't in the band anymore especially if I was one of the main creative forces who wrote a lot of the songs and defined the bands sound

      They're not in the same head space and era.
      That's why you have to leave it alone.
      If they're that good of musicians, they can make music under a different name. It shouldn't be a problem. They just don't want to start from scratch, because it's way too hard nowadays.

      They wanted to make fast money with the unexpected legacy that started after Kyuss split up and the fact that no one of them had any financial or critical acclaimed success after Kyuss. Let's be honest most of their other musical work is garbage besides some decent Brant Bjork records. Everything John Garcia was into was either mediocre uninspired Hard rock, tiring Kyuss rip offs or garbage!

  • @formusicplaylist1
    @formusicplaylist1 Před 12 lety +3

    i think they picked the name because it would mean that people are automatically going to attend the shows. if nick and jerry and the others started it under a new band name they would have to build a fanbase from the ground up. kyuss already has a dedicated fanbase and considering that their fanbase has only grown since it ended, they are almost guaranteed to make money and sell out shows
    if jerry garcia started a new band people would just view it as "that washed up guy from kyuss". sad true

    First off, no he's not rich. He's known as a "well known" musician, but he's not rich. Famous among those who know him, maybe.
    I don't see creativity as a sole commodity, but that doesn't mean "take my share, I'm above it."
    I don't know if you are familiar with the nature of Josh AND Scott's lawsuit, but Brant and John applied for a new copyright on the name Kyuss, thus cutting off all connections between Josh, Scott, and Fredo, and using Kyuss' back catalogue for their own monetary use. Wrong.

    The main thing about The Pixies reunion was that nothing was hidden. Frank Black openly said, the first time around was for the art, this time around its for the money. Pixies made hardly any revenue the first time round, Kyuss probably made even less. At least this keeps good musicians in their craft.
    I'd like to see Kyuss progress into a different band and play a few old Kyuss tracks live to show where they came from. Times change but you got start somewhere and this is probably the easiest.

    Scott Reeder is awesome. I saw kyuss from early on before he was in the band. But I have to say the shows with him were better.

  • @antihax91
    @antihax91 Před 12 lety +5

    Well, Josh is only counter-suing them because they're trying to take his share of the name away completely. Up until now, he's been very supportive of them just bringing Kyuss classics to the people, but he doesn't want them making a new record with the old name, because it could only be an insult to what made Kyuss special.

    Kyuss songwriting credits:
    Josh: 39
    Brant:11
    John:12
    Scott:7
    Nick:3
    Alfredo:2
    This includes co-written songs and lyrics and John even got his BS lyrics credits for "Yeah" at the end of Blues and songs without fucking lyrics. I used all the studio albums, the split EP and the B sides from Muchos Gracias.
    Josh clearly was the driving force of this band and on top of that tone, jury says Josh was Kyuss. Sorry. Brant should've gotten over Whitewater.

  • @acarlovonsexron1994
    @acarlovonsexron1994 Před 11 lety +2

    Fair enough. Though I don't know how "poor" those guys are, there's really no telling especially nowadays where the money is and who it goes to. I know Interscope got most of Queens cut.
    I read that between 97 and 2010 Ben Shepherd, the bass player of Soundgarden had to sell all his basses and was couch surfing and living off fast food. And Soundgarden was one of the most popular bands of the 90s.
    I still stand by them calling it something other than Kyuss. They ripped off Scott and Fredo too.

    Those figures aren't the most accurate to go by. I don't know Josh personally, but I know I guy who the internet says is worth $8 million and is actually not worth anything close to that. Most of those figures are accumulated net worth, not money in the bank.
    I'm not saying Josh is poor, either, he certainly has the most money out of anyone that was/ is in Kyuss, but you'd be surprised at how little even $7 million as you say is in California with their property values/ taxes.

    @acarlovonsexron1994 Před 11 lety +3

    Yeah. Josh was cool with the guys making music as long as it wasn't under the Kyuss name, because as frankly the biggest influence on that music, and a proud part of his history, he wanted to be known for what it was, not what it turned into 15 years later. That's why the band broke itself up before things got personal and the music became affected. Kyuss never made a bad song, and Josh wants to keep it that way.

For all I know, Brant won the lottery while Nick inherited a vast fortune, and they're just trying to rip off Josh, Scott & Fredo because they're tired of tying women to train tracks and then MUAH-HA-HA-ing as they twirl their mustaches.

So I think every few years he disseminates a new pronunciation of his name because he thinks it's funny that no one knows how to pronounce it. It's Kaufmanesque.

    Is better a Revival of kyuss played by John garcia & Brant Bjork? or another cover band? Or maybe better the last 2 records of qotsa that really sucks? C'mon guys i respect every point of view but new songs of qotsa are not good songs.

    Fucking bullshit. Josh has his shit, he's no longer part of Kyuss. He has QOTSA, these guys should be allowed to have ownership of Kyuss. I like Josh but, c'mon. Get over it man!

    stop.

      Every time I have seen him introduce himself, he called himself "Hommie". And Josh himself pronounces Kyuss as KieYuss, so, yeah, your argument is invalid.

    The bottom line is Homme is a raging success compared to the rest of the band. If the only way they can make a decent buck is by going out and playing his stuff which he's basically said he's done with who cares. Let them play under the name Kyuss. They jacked the name from Dungeons and dragons anyway. Change the name to Spawn of Kyuss. And let the guys make some money.

    Of course it would be bad. Accept the ideas of impermanence. We still have all the old Zeppelin records to listen to, but John Bonham is dead. Led Zeppelin could only ever hope to be 75% of what they used to be, and 75% would still be badass, but it would only be an insult to the real Led Zeppelin. Just like Brian May is still harming the memory of Queen (With gusto) by trying to replace someone as incredible, and unique, as Freddie Mercury.

    Homme was Kyuss. If they want to continue working together, that's fine, they're just going to have to change their name.

    Who cares about Homme? He wants to write pop songs with QOTSA....
    The other guys got the right attitude and can give to the name Kyuss new life.
    Plus the new guitar player and the new bass player are great. So Josh stay in your pop garden and let the true Kyuss play their game in their Stoner desert.

    Josh is scared of nick, c'mon who wouldn't be, he's the type of guy you upset 1 minute, then he's wearing your sisters head for kicks, there's something lacking in the guys head, maybe just wired up a little different. but I prefer the music that was made when Nick was part of the band, all this new stuff is abstract, like a B movie in my opinion.
    I look forward to a day when, for once more I can put the CD on "infinite repeat" like i did when Songs for the Deaf was playing

    Nobody is trying to "steal" Kyuss, these guys are just looking to jam together and make a few bucks on tour. Drugs and ego screwed Josh a long time ago, now he's just trying to step on neck the of John and Brant and hurt the Kyuss fans who want to go out and see them. So stupid.
