  • Sustainable, low cost, reusable & refillable - all of these things are enticing to hear when it comes to the Capmesso capsules that are compatible with Nespresso machines. But do they work? Are they truly reusable? Or will they wear out after a few uses? How easy is it to get the grind right and start making coffee? Today we will explore and review these pods to see if they are a reasonable solution for bringing your own favorite coffees to your Nespresso original machine.

Hi, awesome video, thank you!! I would be very interested to see how the same coffee tastes in a standard espresso machine vs a reusable cup in the nespresso. That would be super interesting, can’t find any comparison online!

What a lovely review! I have been doing pour overs and I am tired of it! You were so thorough thank you!!!! What I like about these reusable pods is that they are NOT aluminum! Can you review the silicone covers?

I've used the steel icafilas pods (aliexpress), but had to use them with aluminium foil lids for a better result. I have ordered the Morning Capsule Machine, to gain more control of all the aspects of brewing with capsules. I imagine you have been looking at that machine as well. I would think you'd be happier with, for example, being able to increase the pressure in the end phase of the brew to increase the perceived acidity.

It's important to note that certain types of stainless steel can cause damage to the puncture system of your Nespresso machine, while others may leak due to built-in holes. However, I have personally tried a specific brand of stainless steel pods that work perfectly without causing any damage. Although the blue cap version of these pods is a bit better, the hassle of changing the foil cap on the stainless steel pods is a small price to pay for the benefits of being eco-friendly. Compared to aluminium pods, which create a lot of waste, these stainless steel pods are a great option for those who are environmentally conscious.

Waycup "compatible capsules" are the best. Not the cheapest but really zero waste.

Thanks for your video. Could you please tell me on which number are you grinding your bean? Thanks.

Do you know what the best/ your gram/ml ratio is? I’m struggling to dial in my nespresso

    That's a great option.
I'd be happy to use any reusable capsule for my machine, but Essenza Mini machines punctures capsule on the back side, so it's not really compatible with any of those reusables.
And I don't feel like investing 100+ dollars into another nespresso machine is a way to support their model, but better going for more eco-friendly option.

Thanks for the video! After seeing this video I ordered my OL machine and purchased the Capmesso 100 capsule set and lids. First try, my grind was too fine and water would not go through (setting 5 on Rancilio Rocky) Went a little bit coarser (setting 9) and it worked very well. We've been enjoying our freshly ground coffee for the last week. l gather up the used aluminum lids, rollup into a ball and toss into my recycling. Capsules are easy to clean and refill. I would not have purchased the machine if I didn't think I could reused and fill my own capsules. Took a chance and it worked. Double espressos for me, lungo+espresso for my husband. Running 2 capsules through for each drink isnt hard for us.

Since I bought the reusables pods I can't go back to nespresso pods, they taste awful, no flavor and no intensity. It might be more work since I have to grind the coffee beans and put the coffee ground everytime I want to use the reusable pods but it worth cause the flavor is delicious!

The foil lids aren't reusable. You can easily buy them in a pack of 120 online.

It looks interesting but I wonder how much was the fact you work in a coffee shop or luck. You might have put just the right amount of coffee in the pod because you have a feeling for how much is the right amount. When I was trying to figure out the right amount of grounds to put in my Moka Pot it took me a little while to figure it out. At first too much and I'd get channeling. Had to make a few brews before I found the right amount. Feel like I might have gone through the same trial and error with how much is the right amount for a pod.
Additionally, there is still too much waste for me. At home I use AeroPress, Moka Pot (with AeroPress filters) or ceramic V60. The only thing that is a one time use is the paper filter. It does require more technique than something like the Nespresso but the savings are huge and I create NO plastic waste. Maybe one day I'll have to dispose of my AeroPress but that will be after thousands of uses. Plus my AeroPress will last just as long, if not longer, then a Nespresso machine and be a lot less plastic. As a professional scuba diver, I see too much plastic making its way into the seas and oceans of the world.

I've been researching these little suckers for like a week and it's hard to figure out how well they work. Half the Amazon reviews (on any given brand) say it works great, half say it makes coffee like dishwater. I wonder how much of that is due to the user's skill, like you say - the bad reviews all come from people who didn't experiment enough with grind size, pressure etc.
