- You've been asking for our cheapest, most beat up project to come back, so here it is: Sh!tCar! Since its fiery demise at SEMA last year, it's high time we fit a new motor to this thing. What's it gonna be: A 13B Renesis, an SR20DET, tried and true LS1, or a BMW S50? Either way, we're just stoked to have our favorite terrible car back on the path to... breaking it again.

As an owner of a Rotary I can confirm lol. Putting in an FD RX7's engine in my RX8 and it's a money pit but I'm committed. SR20 would be the better option here

SR20 to ZF320 5 Speed with the PMC Adapter kit. Stock driveline from trans back, bolt on SR20, make engine mounts, wiring, and upgrades. Good to go again.
13b for high braps or s50 to keep it legit and true to the heart!

SR20's are garbage, 13b's are garbage, S50's aren't bad but aren't as good as a LS reliability wise and super expensive for parts so LS is the logical choice... Put a small turbo so it spools super fast or a big turbo and use the nitrous to spool the turbo
@@isaacshively6705 yeah, you're not wrong at all but I'm just beyond uninterested in LS anything at this point. You heard them too, this particular s50 is basically garbage. Rotories are cool but not this one (rx8 13b) and it doesnt suit shitcar. SR's aren't all garbage. They do sound like truck motors and are way overhyped online but turbo'd in shitcar, it just feels right. (Out of these available options) If I had a choice I'd choose a barra (maybe an rb) or 1 of the better honda blocks like H or K turbo'd within an inch of their life. 😈 but barra is my 1st pick.

Swap on the S50!! There’s already an LS bmw in the shop, there’s a ton of rotary stuff on the channel as Brian said, and nobody wants to listen to Nads yap every time the SR20 starts. The S50 would be cool and different

You want something simple and powerful to rip around the burnyard, 13B would be the most interesting of the bunch but either the LS or the SR will get you in the thing. My vote goes to the SR and a big boi turbo.

S50 doesn't even need much aftermarket part support. Just slap turbo and better headgasket to it and it makes 500whp with e85.

@@HooniganProjectGarage Just remember that the shiny stainless eBay exhaust manifolds crack within few heat cycles or don't even fit at all but otherwise those can provide quite good bang for your buck, if you are lucky :D

i would choose S65 V8 from E92 M3 GTS. It has 450HP at stock and it isnt overused + has pretty good sound. Think about it IF it's avaiable in your country with a good price.

Shitcar is Shitcar for a reason
I didn't know the LS was that small. I've never seen one laid out beside a 4-cylinder. It's barely bigger than a SR20 but way smaller than that 6 cylinder. Crazy small for the for the amount of available displacement.
Compared to the S50 the LS looks tiny! This is one of the reasons why we wanted to show you all this perspectives.
That's most of the reason they're such a popular seap, the other biggest reason is iron block LS engines are in every u pull it in the country

Here is my reasoning:
If I'm feeling like a purist, I say S50 with a big turbo and good management for clean reliable ripper.
If it were my build and I was paying, LS Turbo all day.
If I was trying to be cool, had one laying around, and I didn't have a more appropriate home, I guess maybe the SR20, its a good motor, but its really not my thing.
But since its you guys, and Dan is the man, and Dan will actually see the project through...

Why no Toyota option?! I know it's almost as played out as the LS, but I love the 1/2JZ. And a straight six just seems right in a bmw... Like payback for the new supra in some way.

I vote cheap but done right turbo ls. With Dan's fab work it'd be the most "shit" but good.
It's honestly the only option. ShitCar was meant to be minimal cost. LS is the way to go. Can't find parts for a 13B/SR20/S50 at any Autozone or O'Reilly's but you can for an LS.
S50! Keeping it an oem+ style, plus boost is always good 🤔
There’d be maybe 8 wires to do for the s50. And you could use the getrag that came out of the car. It’s boring, but if we learned anything from the m42, it’s that having a yard car that works is nice.
