@@jaketerry5879 Right. But the fact that they were in the same place at the same time, they very likely crossed paths. Just like 2 families living in a smaller town would be super unlikely to not at least know of each other or cross paths. My guess is that if you had asked decades ago, he may have at least recognized them. It would be awesome if they showed him a picture of them at the time, maybe that would jog his memory!

because while US was technically in war with the axis, (only really after 1944) they had been in right out war with the japanese since pearl harbor in 1941. this is why, they were the first priority enemy that committed terrorism against them, while the axis were warring with rest of europe.

Because Japan was the closest to the US and therefore meant that most likely Japan was able to send spies the easiest. For example the Pearl Harbor attacks were scouted and mapped out and planned by Japanese spies, that attack wiped almost half the US navy, and they didn’t want something like that to happen again. Germany and Italy didn’t do anything as bad to the US on US soil like Japan did. Mostly because they were far away and fighting Great Britain, Russia, France, and other smaller countries. Long story short, Germany and Italy had their own war to fight. And didn’t have time or spies to send to US soil.

    • @russellragsdale446

The sorting would have been more difficult, the Japanese did not "blend" in. The only way the allies could put germans or Italians in internment camps were to capture them in battle and when they did they were sent to a prison to conduct hard labour.

+kidpurin-Even though he was only 8, it was not an experience you can ever forget. Nor can you ever fully recover from. . .Since he was a kid, all he knew was probably just the utter confusion and terror of it all-his parents crying, packing up all these things into one suitcase in the middle of the night, leaving behind the only home they've ever known only to be stuffed inside the space of a locker room, if even that. . .To be permanently sentenced to what is a prison, stuffed with thousands of others, for absolutely no reason, to be nearly starved, abused, and neglected. . .only for the government to turn around and let all these people "go back home"-despite that they had no home anymore-with absolutely no reason, no apology (it took until 1988 or 1989 for the US government to ever issue an official apology for what had happened)-and acted like nothing ever happened. . .
Despite that all these people lives were destroyed. They had no homes to go back to. . .Even if they did, they had to rebuild entirely everything from scratch, start over, and never forget the shame that their own neighbors viewed with scorn, contempt, as the "enemy." You are different and therefore, you do not belong. . .It truly is a tragic, heartbreaking event in history, a shameful period of our history. And I definitely think it doesn't deserve to be forgotten-we do have to remember this, otherwise this will be repeated-heck, I consider that it's happening all over again in the U.S. with what they've done to these children. Those are already our modern internment camps. And that this has happened in our history, twice, is simply shameful and inhuman. . .

    🚨🚨🚨HIHO/CUT:
WE DEFINITELY NEED A PART 2!!! Maybe show Shox some pictures of Desmond's family and he can show Desmond some pictures of him at the time. Maybe take Shox back to the site... if that's not too much... maybe even take Desmond to. Whatever it is, this was too perfect for only one video! I loved the simplicity and the kindness and the reality and the coincidences, etc. And Desmond... Desmond already is and will do great things in this world.

Kids are surprisingly accepting. However, the man is the strong one here. He not only endured the horrors of the interment, but he is willing to talk about it to the world!

But he is not willing to talk about what japan did during and prior to ww2 and why japanese-americans got put in those camps, which are not contration camps, that is bullshit.

  • @galaxygirl2494

Wow. We just started talking about this in my history class. The reason they were sent to the camps is because the president didn't want the Japanese learning things about the US that they could use against us in war. He was worried that the Japanese Americans would give the Japanese information. It was supposed to be a safety thing. I still think it's not fair though and I feel horrible that they were put in these camps. Luckily they weren't camps like the ones over in Europe at the time. I learned that they are called Relocation Camps.
