    Great video, nice catch. How fast do these locomotives go I mean top speed notch 8. They are going so slow, when can they start speeding up.

    • @AbelG8781
      @AbelG8781 Před 5 lety +1

      All about weight. Some loaded may not be able to exceed 40 depending on how much power is online.

    • @EastTexasProductions
      @EastTexasProductions Před 3 lety +3

      Charles, the train isn't going as slow as it looks in some places. The speed indicator in some shots shows 40 mph, but it looks like 15 or 20 because the person shooting the video is zoomed in so much on the forward view. Zooming in like that compresses the image so much that it makes the movement seem much slower. Look at 21:00 thru 21:10 and you'll see what I'm talking about. Hope that helps.

    • @wizardofodds8239
      @wizardofodds8239 Před 2 lety

      To "make the train go faster" increase your CZcams playback speed to 1.5. (Under settings.)

      @hawtchick69 Stopping is one of the most rewarding parts when done well. Smoothly stopping a train with all the slack stretched feels really nice in the seat.

      @Throttlejockey94 Před 2 lety

      @hawtchick69 far as I could tell without being there. He had the throttle open only grabbing a couple pounds at a time. Then very light fan of the IBV.

      @hawtchick69 lol ya think? I mean maybe if you’re working a switcher and you’re dropping your foreman at a switch. But if you’re gonna be sitting for a while and have a big train, why not take your time and be comfortable?

    • @Throttlejockey94
      @Throttlejockey94 Před 2 lety

      @hawtchick69 I’m more worried about a run in and jack knife, or rolled rail. Or something else to take me out of service

  • @offgridcabin1557
    @offgridcabin1557 Před 7 lety +5

    I am very surprised by how quiet the train is. I would have thought it would be much louder than it is. Now I understand how they can sneak up on people. And this one was going slow!

      When its going fast you can hear the roaring sound so if you don't hear it, it will blow it's horn for you to get out of the way

      @@AbelG8781 This was filmed in 2007 so apparently it's still possible. But post-9/11 no doubt it is much harder to do. There are probably all kinds of hoops to jump through before they let you step foot in a yard.

      That is due to the early technology of personal "camcorders." The cameras these days have improved exponentially in quality, and the media used to store the video for future viewing has vastly improved.
