Train Ride on Tennessee's Most-Scenic Railroad from Clinchfield 800

- On November 12th and 13th, Lhoist North America ran several employee appreciation specials to honor personnel from its Crab Orchard and Anderson mines for keeping the business alive throughout what was a very difficult year for the company. An unprecedented mine collapse forced the two plants to collaborate in creative ways to ensure the Crab Orchard facility remained online throughout 2021 and early 2022.
The passenger equipment used during the excursion, including the world-famous Clinchfield Railroad EMD F7A no. 800, was brought to Lhoist by the hard-working volunteers at the Southern Appalachia Railway Museum (SARM), who also staffed the train the entire weekend. SARM operated the train safely and professionally, with many of Lhoist's employees leaving fabulous reviews of the experience. Many remarked they hoped it would become an annual tradition. Time will tell.

Nice Bridge and i love the Horn it sounds like the Horn on a classic early 1950's ALCO FPA-4 Diesel Electric Locomotive, 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃,16:03
Great videos I knew this had to be some place in Tennessee, just by the woods and fields.
The thing that I find the most amazing is that nobody talks about the men that actually built these tracks.
even worse the ones who funded the building and thus the full blown controllers of the whole nation. Thats power, only you get cancelled if you say who.
Or clitchfield 800 72 yrs old and amooth
You’re so right!
@@mikeking245 What on earth are you taking about? I'm a civil engineer. We just get stuff done... No fuss. Then onto the next project. 🤔
@@Crawer101 im talking about juice crew. the ones who run it all... think about it.
As a retired civil engineer, I am humbled by the human effort that went into making this railroad a reality. From the initial surveys to determine the lay of the land, selecting the most efficient route, and then the human hands who rearranged the earth to construct the embankments and the bridges. Incredible what those in the past created for a better, more prosperous future. I wish we could do the same.

My daddy his brother and wife and their son all were engineers for Clinchfield, (CSX) rr out of Erwin Tn. What a gem! TY FOR THIS!
That's me at 57:10 and 1:07:10 in the Challenger lol. That was a fun chase!
This locomotive has one of the best, if not the best Nathan M5 airhorns out there. Well a strong contender to my claim would probably be FP7 Southern 6133
I can confirm, I've been for a cab ride in that exact locomotive, and I got to blow the horn a couple times
RIP ear bud wearers.
Those type of horns in those days some railroads used them blowing them a certain sequence as a communication language.
It has a wonderful toot, warms my vagina to hear it.
The EMDs are definitely one of my favorite engines, and to see it chugging through such amazing terrain was a feast for the senses. Thanks for posting such amazing ride-alongs!
God, what I wouldn't give to be in the driver seat of 800!! Beautiful locomotive. Thank you for this Drayton, I've so wanted to see a cab ride from 800 for the longest time! Love those F and E unit locomotives!!!!
One of the most beautiful renditions of jingle bells I’ve ever heard Wade. 😆👍🏻
Everything looks the same as it did 36 years ago. That was the TVRM trip to Crossville. Another commenter mentions 4501, but my recollection is 4501 ran from Chattanooga to Rockwood( the bottom of the mountain), and then they removed 4501 and put two diesels on, because there was no place to turn the train nearby. That was a rainy day and we stalled at least twice before getting to Crab Orchard. That ex-Tennessee Central line was mostly a folly. It was the only line that ran directly across TN from Nashville to Knoxville, but missed any meaningful traffic sources. Plus, it has a hard climb in either direction(which amazingly are the sections still in service. It's been proposed to reinstall the missing section that NS removed but I doubt it ever happens. Great video!
Wonderful video, beautiful train and I love the engineer’s horn style.❤
This brings back memories. I traveled this path a few times during my childhood behind the 4501 when the TVRM had a fall excursion going from Chattanooga to Crossville TN.
Beautiful, great restoration of a classic F unit. Thanks for posting
Boy, that "Big Gulch Bridge" or whatever it was called at the end there, man, I had my doubts! Great video, thanks.
That was really awesome Wade .. thanks for the tour.
Wonderful video, Drayton! I enjoyed watching this video with the cab views and the views from the top of the cab. Wade White knows how to work the horn on Clinchfield #800.
Fantastic beauty!
Thank you so much for this video.
Classic Wade at the throttle of a Classic Locomotive. Classic
This was awesome and thanks for taking us along!
Fantastic video!!! Thank you for this jewel of a video!!!
The FP7 will always be on my top 3 list of favorite locomotives. Never gets old operating it on the Clinchfield on Train Sim World.
The thing i find weird is the F7 in game has a front and rear horn toggle yet the real F7 had only one horn toggle
@@Flyingbeanman236 Unfortunately the game isn't always accurate with their models
@@Unknown_Ooh That is very true
Absolutely awesome video!
Enjoyed the train ride through the mountains and the scenery and listening to the engine Make this way down and through the line
What a GREAT video! I’m grateful! Love watching!
That must be the old Tennessee Central main line trackage. Rode passenger trains over that line a few times, back in the day.
Loving the video drayton
This so Awesome thanks for sharing it.,
From the other side of the world, a great journey thru Tennessee. I haven't been there before.
🎉🎉🎉
Great job of videoing. Thank you
Awesome video. Loved it. And I love these locomotives. I’ve run the myself. 👍❤️
This is awsome!
I live in east TN/North Georgia. I only live about twenty minutes from the TVRM in Chattanooga. Went on one of their excursion trains as a kid, and would love to go on another sometime. This is an awesome video.
Driven along that route several times. Cool video.
Nice locomotive and bell
Beautiful ❤️ 😍 scenery 😍
Awesome video 👍😎🇺🇸🚂
That's one cool horn.
Wonderful video! It sure was an awesome day. It’s kinda fun trying to find myself in these videos
Hands down best M5 and a awesome Locomotive!
Great Video
wow this was an awesome catch, thanks and the old F unit and inside of the unit, amazing and please keep them coming. the ride along was awesome 🙂
Przepiękne 👍
Nice!
Nice Very Nice.
This route needs to be recreated in Train Sim World 3.
I just learned the horn signals. It was fun knowing what was going to happen from the horn. Interesting sound to the double air horn.😁
I love that F7A...
47:42 was my favorite part lol
LOTS OF BIG TRAINS!!!
Awesome
That's a great sounding horn
👍 NICE!!
Great video! Wish that route was a regular trip. I'd pay for the trip.
This is cool. I’ve never been on the Clenchfield, but it looks gorgeous. Next you should do the Hiawassee Loop.
Cool video! I do wish it had been filmed when everything was green though in the summer.
The F unit….the OG of safety cabs.
Ok I know that they likely inspect everything quite often and know that it’s all safe but DAMN those bridges look like they could collapse at any moment.
Wow oh wow!!
Absolutely epic horn!
Beautiful machine! A credit to its history and the teams that restored her and run her!
Awesome!
I thank you!
Great Vid but would have loved to meet the engineer @ the beginning ! .. and on screen captions explaining what he is doing while driving would be just awesome ! Nice video.
It’s a great job What scenery
The train sim i run has the 800 with the horn. I love the sound of itm
My Grandpa was a, REA Expressman on several different Railroads.
Man I'd love to drive this train through the woods
I drove the length of Tennessee two times during my servicing communications equipment days... i'm 74 and retired 11/29/2022 now. pretty state all the way.
Now I got a ideah of how it was when grandpa worked at Chicago Great Western.....I always worked on B23-7s, C30-7s and GP7s as well as Paducah....
Photo Bomb by the tow truck! nice
One mode of transportation I have yet to experience.
Nevermind superb footage, but a view of the throttle linkage on the prime mover from inside the carbody?! Amazing stuff, easily one of your top 5 vids ever...bravo, sir.
...finally shots of the driver's cab t get an impression of the train management...
I unconsciously pulled in my elbows at several points in that trip :)
I'am your newest subscriber that is a really great video. i like to film the trains in prince west virginia . your train looks cool from the 70s ? John in florida
Theyre in the 50s
Really beautiful path thru the countryside. Any Rail Speeder groups that ride this route? First time I rode with the rail speeders and crossed one of these high bridges........oh me......I could not grip the seat tight enough!
Hobos have great footage too
Everyone drives on the roads but trains get there own road that’s mostly scenic. Can’t complain about that.
Very nicely done Drayton!
very nice, love the engine , hate the colors, lol
Should have recorded it in the summertime when all trees have their leaves.
P.S. D.I.B.P it's always nice to relive the old revenue once in a while Have Good One !
wow, that's what I was looking for... a deer.
Get in sit down, shut up and hold on!!
Looks so fun
What nice camera work! No more shaky iPhone videos!
Nice Engine Room Alright!,23:51
I would think when the F unit came out the engineers who had been running steam thought, look now we can see both sides of the track. That was probably a real safety factor.
How long is this train ride. My first time watching 👀 ☺️ 😍 this ride. It's awesome
It would be great if someone could explain what the various handles, levers, etc, inside the cab did.
I agree. They should fix the clock. It’s stuck on 11 or 12:45. That of course it it’s indeed a clock.
👏👏👏
Very good video. 👍 But why on earth is the horn blown four times before every crossing? Everybody hears it the first time.
Operating rule 14(l).
@@ruffian2952 Thank you.
Just love the nose in the video !!!
16:48 bailing off the independent brakes!
I was wanting to see some southern rails guess this wasn't one of the main rails though
That feller is whistle happy.
Take a chill pill!!!
This is the main line of the Tennessee Central, correct?
Correct.
@@DelayInBlockProductions Thank you.
Would like to, ride on this line, when we come to visit friends, in Manchester, Tennessee. How far is that from Manchester?
Love the train & the horn. It would have been a prettier ride in the fall with the leaves turning. Don't understand why the horn sound before going over bridge or why the trip stops in the middle of nowhere to go back. Just a little confused.
Are those support beams by those train tunnels?
Is that the line that used to run all the way through Crossville, TN?
Yes.
What was the original speed of the line? You guys are taking it pretty easy.
Love the scenery but hate the rails in the clip. The track bed is so steep and close on the right side of the rail. After a heavy rain, I would be afraid of a washout.
I have ALWAYS thhought those ol' cabs sounded alot lke thier GM cousins. (cars)
