Had the same thing happen, fell in love with a girl. We dated for three years, lived together, etc. But back then I was a drug addict and a heavy drinker (I've been 10 years clean, still drink occasionally) and when I cleaned up my life she kept doing the things I was trying to stop for a few more years. We split, and it broke my heart, but she got married two years ago, she's been clean for about 6 years now and is expecting her first kid. So proud of her accomplishment, and I'm happy to say we're still good friends. We never truly stop loving the people that meant a lot to us in the past, the love just changes.
