    BIGGEST HOAX In The Deer Hunting Industry #14
    The October Lull is a complete scam to sell magazines and moon guides and also to write articles about. It was made up years ago from people not understanding what happens to deer that time of year. Back then i bought into it. The fact is nothing changes. I hunt the same way i would at any other time. My advice? figure it out and hunt on

I respect all my fellow archers here . To each his own .. We will continue to learn until we demise. I believe in serious hunting the day following a +/- 20° temp drop and the wind .. Never the moon 🌙 phase or barometric pressure ..my opinion only . Oct 30,2017 a 232 lb/8 pointer with a cold front passing . Good luck 👍 y’all this fall 2020.. Bring a mask and be safe !!

      Ok. There hair changes no big deal. If hot in October they just move to a cooler area like we do. They move back in the timber where there is a breeze like we would do. Doesn’t mean they don’t move or won’t feed. Just have to find them. 👍

    I don’t believe in a lull. I totally agree with what you just said about hunting pressure changing the deers daily pattern. I’ve been deer hunting on public and private land for over 40 years. I’ve seen this first hand. I believe if you spend more time in the woods scouting for fresh sign and hunting places that not many people are willing to go. You can increase your chances of seeing more deer. I’m not the best deer hunter I know but I could tag out every year If I shot just any buck, however I don’t. I usually will shoot two mature bucks a year. I have tagged out at three but it’s usually two. Those deer are killed within the first two weeks of bow season or the middle of November. I hunt in southeastern Alabama and I hunt three different tracts of land that have three different rut times. It’s rare that I don’t see deer while I’m up in a tree. If I don’t see deer it’s because they know they’re being hunted and have shifted from their pattern. A lull is just an old excuse for not seeing deer and it’s sold a lot of magazines. I’ve bought some myself when I was a younger man. I know better now.

    You are 100% right! Most of the crap the sell at sporting goods stores are more to rip off hunters also, and the fall for it for $millions each year. Walk into a big box sporting goods stores and crap is stacked to the ceiling! I hunt the south east. There is a lot of pressure on the deer starting in September. I do feed corn, food plots. But I am quite, set still and hunt the wind. I never shoot does, I always fill the freezer with 2 great, mature bucks and a hog or two. Don't fall for all this crap! I don't believe doe urine from Michigan is good in GA. Deer and diet are different. Hunt smart if you can remember how!

    I never hunt till late October and my daytime pictures cut in half last week of September till third week of October every year for the last 15 years. And I'm talking about cameras on Oak flats, transitional points not on corn piles and food plots that are affected by human intrusion. And thanks to cellular trail cameras I know this. Before I blamed it on myself checking the cameras. This is in most cases due to testosterone levels in the bucks and the social pressure caused by that. It even affects the doe. I also have a large enough parcel to keep over ten doe family groups and two of which are in a sanctuary that has only been accessed twice a year since acquiring cell cameras, and their movement is affected the same way. So I believe in it its not just because temperatures though. And I'm on my property every day in May and June hunting squirrel, fishing, camping, and doing management improvements. Where is my May and June Lull- shift due to hunting pressure. It doesn't happen then.

    I noticed a big shift this morning on my brassica plot the deer moved in and were hammering it from 1am until 630am. I used the poor man's electric fence this year because I invest alot of money into irrigation. Ever 3 days I would walk my whole food plot to get my scent in it. And they stayed out of it. But I haven't been back there for 7 days now and they moved in heavy. I have turtle top turnips, tiller radish, sugar beets, 3 types of clover, cereal grain and i think one other thing layered in there. Its almost 2 feet tall right now. So glad I listened to you and did a soil test. Because I needed 6000 pounds of lime in that one acre to correct the soil. So happy with the results

    It's not all pressure. Deer abandon fields for oak drops overnight. The heat does have something to do with it as well, once you have that late September cool off, and then a warm up, it makes the deer much more nocturnal. Outfitters who blame the October lull are either too lazy to move the stands or don't want to hit their rut spots in October until the bucks start running.

    • @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors
      @Whitetailobsessionoutdoors  Před 3 lety

      Deer don’t go nocturnal they eat 5 times a day. They just aren’t on your land until night time which makes people think they go “nocturnal”
      They still feed 5 times a day and eat 4-6 pounds of food per day

  • @livingeverydayoutdoors7374

    Follow the food if you can. Deer live and die by their stomach. Good information Dave.

  • @mxer351
    @mxer351 Před 3 lety

    Great video but there really is an October lull. Lull meaning lack of activity which is in relation to how far and much they move during daylight hours. They definitely are more nocturnal after opening day due to pressure. Nocturnal meaning more activity at night rather than day. They certainly eat just as much during October as you’ve said but they clearly don’t travel as far as in the summer or late winter months hence the “October lull”. There’s a reason people begin getting less photos on trail cameras around October and then pick back up in November. I believe a lot of people take “October Lull” the wrong way as in deer don’t move, they always move. Great video though and very good points

    agree with you. i never had any luck with moon guild i have better luck with the barometer 29.80º. i been watch deer for 20 years here in maryland i notice in September the deer leave the field and go into the woods. for years i could not figure it out, then it hit me when i trip over the acorns. they are looking for acorns. i never was a field hunter, so i did not see the October issue. the only problem i did not see much deer in the fields. when i start hunting acorns mainly white oaks i see alot of deer. they may move more at night but i put that on hunting pressure. when you tell people this they argue because TV hunter told them the deer dont move in October. i tell people get a barometer and make notes when you see deer and the barometer pressure and find the sweet spot. for me deer will move when the pressure is 28.70º and 28.90º. yes they move anytime but some reason this is the sweet spot anything over 30.00º and 29.60º deer dont move. now i have corn out all year in my yard with 10+ deer coming every day. September the deer dont come to the corn as much. its almost prove my theory. deer love acorns and they are much better for them. the beans are tough for them to eat and the corn is ok but hard to digest. i dont know why but most hunter hunt the fields i guess because people see deer in the fields and they think deer comes to the fields all of the time. i like to hunt the bedding and always had. i did not hear the October issue until i watch the dury videos and never could under stand the October because i see more deer in October than September. October is a better hunt for me because it way cooler and i can control my scent better because I, not sweating like a pig in my stand.

    Back when i was in my upper teens and early 20s i bow hunted quite a bit. Back then i loved October. I had about 400 acres between 3 people behind my house and they all let me hunt. One year i decided i'd cut my trips down from nearly every day to about once a week. When i did that i killed a deer every time i went. My hunting buddy hated me because he was always competitive wanting to out do me. I on the other hand just wanted to be in the woods that time of year no matter if i killed anything or not. For a number of years after that October was my time to shine but i'd usually keep one tag open so i could hunt the rut. Back then ehd wasn't so bad and we where allowed a lot more deer in a season then we are now. There was usually no more then 1-2 other people would hunt my area maybe a time or two a piece back then for the whole year. Now with inner ear trouble and blood pressure that goes up and down like crazy i stay out of the trees and just wait till muzzleloader season. I have hunted since i was 7yrs old and two things i can tell you for certain is deer don't like human scent everywhere so people in the woods wise them up fast. Also a deer will walk over ten corn piles and past a 50 acre soybean field to get to one good tree that is dropping a bunch of acorns. Deer change their patters every single year for a hund full of reasons, they always have and always will. October is a great time to hunt so don't waste it!

    Now what I do is use a organic fertilizer early spring only using a little bit, it goes a long way. Stay out of your hunting area's ,deer are habitual they'll use them same runs to the food source year after year.
    I'll be switching my game camera's to those that send pictures and videos to your phone, yeah I know their pricey but you eliminate your human scent, as far as that scent eliminating clothes for hunting I think that is a hoax as well...

    I laugh every time I hear guys chalk up their bad hunting habits or just plain ignorance to the October lull. Its laziness and bad hunting habits. Be it scent control or stand access and exit. They are out there 24/7 Just not where they know you are gonna be. Be a predator not a lazy human that watches to many monster bucks dvds.

    You need to delete this video. You are ruining my October chances of being out there by myself. Dammit.

    So you literally say the October lull is a hoax and doesn't happen then outline all the factors that make up the october lull cool story bro additionally the the reason deer move better in aug during the day time did you ever notice how a deers coat changes color right at about Sept its called a winter coat so yes and 80 degree day in Oct is different than a 90 degree day in July or Aug and lastly an adult deer will consume 15-17 lbs of forage a day not 5-6. The October lull happens because deer are switching patterns and feeling more pressure bucks become nocturnal and does stick to thicker cover and their core area shrinks this is still the october lull happening doesnt make it a hoax.

    I disagree I have been hunting for 30 yrs and every year around Oct 20th all of my pics are at nite and for that week they are transitioning to the rut has nothing to do with hunting pressure the season is already 5 weeks old at that point and I see deer up to that week
