    I have been building and flying FT planes for about 6 months now and after 30 years in the hobby I have to say FT has some of the nicest flying and easiest building airplane kits that I have ever built!

    mr. josh b.
    i have been an instructor in the building trades for over 35 years. I have been out of the hobby for 28 years do to my work schedule but I'm back. I have viewed every vid FT has authored. Yesterday I passed a fellow on the job site fighting with a piece of soffit. As I directed the proper procedure I said ,I quote you, "when you feel happy with the that!" and I burst out laughing!! Pigeon-holed is another new lingo of mine also. thanks and I have scratch built the Mighty -Minis' just waiting on motors.

    After building and flying the old speedster I have some recommendations. I ended up re-enforcing the nose and belly areas with thin hobby plywood for added durability and some structure for the lading gear. It added a bit of weight but with the power pack "C" it was really no problem. I permanently mounted the power pod and moved the lipo to the underside for far easier battery changes. I plan on building the sportster next and incorporating these design changes. It sure made my plane far more durable and user freindly.

    • @wlouisharris
      @wlouisharris Před 8 lety +1

      +Jacob Webb Hopefully this will start a trend. I was just starting a 60% Spitfire when this came out. I guess the thing about shrinking down the plans is the folds could be slightly different. I think in some ways they have done this - like the Tiny Trainer is kind of the mini-storch.

    I just created my template and going to start the build. I tried to build the mini scout but had some cog issues and never could get the plane to fly right. I'm really hoping this plane turns out well. It's the coolest looking mini IMO and the only one of other than the Tiny Trainer with ailerons. This build will probalby take me a few weeks just w/ the way my schedule is going.

  • @paulrandallhicks6498

    I built a Mini Scout....and love it. Our RC Club are excited about building a plane to race against the scout. We think the Sportster will do the job.

  • @PeXnb
    @PeXnb Před 8 lety +2

    Loved all of my the FT3D planes. Folded the wing on the first. Second broke the 1/2"x1/2" wood spar. Third I tried something new. 50% longer wing (Looked pretty cool) with carbon and plywood spar. Flown till the foam was too weak to stay together.
    Because of this build, I'm going to try a micro FT3D.
    Had 2 Horizon Hobby UMX Sbach planes.

      +sneeky7 Who needs skills? You plant it in the ground, you learn from the experience, you build a new one and fly again.!! I'm no 3d expert, but I can fly any plane well enough. With Flite Test planes I'm not scared to wreck a $200 foamy. I can fly harder and learn faster. Then build new :-)

      +Scott St.Amand give carbon fiber or fiberglass arrow shafts a try. They're lighter than and stronger than wood, the only downside being that they're slightly more expensive. Walmart has 5 packs for about $20, but I asked a local archery shop/range if they had any broken shafts they could sell me and they happily did so for $1 each. Most of them are in perfect condition, just missing a fletching or two.

    I have an old great planes super sportster .20 with an os .40 engine swinging an 11x6 prop. All up weight is 3lbs on nitro, with about .75 hp at 18k rpm. My question is what would it take to make it electric? motor, batt, etc... ? it has standard hs bb servos using my old 6xas radio. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I also have a few vids of my planes, rockets, and helis on my channel if anyone reads this or is interested.

    My Mini Sportster ist trying to get its front down into the ground as soon as I full-throttle it on start. I cannot get it into the air as it is constantly trying to make an inverted loop down. The elevator seems not to make any impact on pitching the nose up. It is perfectly balanced and everything is built as instructed. You can feel that desire to get the nose down even when you're holding the plane in the hand while full-throttleing it. What's going on and what am I doing wrong?

    Hi FT, So I did this with my own cutting, and I tried to take off but it just went straight down as if it was too heavy for this to lift off. So I checked the article and the weight indicated should be 204g. Mine is 282g using SunnySky X2204-16 2300kv motor and this is without landing gear or imitation engines at the nose. I used a 3s 1200mah 25c battery for my maiden and never got it to fly, it would just plunge to floor with 2/3 throttle. Would the 80g difference cause this???
