PQPs are based on how much money you spend. I fly a lot and have a ton of PQFs but barely enough PQPs because I fly out of Denver. I'm pretty central which means the majority of my destinations are almost all under 1:20 mins. and flights are relatively cheap. And because Denver is a major United hub my happy little Silver Status backside has never gotten a 1st class upgrade. Free checked bag and group 2 for myself and companion is nice though, but anyone who flies enough to get any kind of status will already have TSA Pre. Just wish it wouldn't reset every calendar year.

For domestic flights, premier silver allows you to change your seat to premium economy when you check in. And that is for you and your travelling companion. Even if your companion is not premier. At booking, you are not allowed to select premium economy seats for free, but you can select preferred seats for yourself and one companion. At check-in you are put on the upgrade list to first class. I have a 50% success rate in being upgraded to first class. It really depends on the cities you are flying in and out of. New York, LA, Chicago, you may as well forget getting upgraded unless you are premier 1k. Priority screening is worthless if you are clear or TSA precheck. Checked bags are a good perk.

Do you live near a hub? I am on track for Silver and I live in a non hub city with lots of flights that aren't full. Fingers crossed I get the upgrades.

I actually do not! PHX is my airport, but United has plenty of flights out of there. I actually got status by accident after all my cancelled COVID trips ended up in the same year. I'm gonna lose Gold Status this year ($8,000 quota not met), but plan on keeping silver regardless of not being in a hub city.

Do you think hustling to get Silver status for 2024 will be worth it? I’m hoping that there will be a lot less Silvers (along with other levels) in 2024 as the current Silvers (and other United tiers) got it under the relaxed requirements. This year its a lot harder to meet the requirements for 2024.

Definitely not. I don't think it's worth it now. If status happens it's cool, but when I've done the math I'll still fly other airlines when price dictates.

Is the basic economy ticket also upgraded?

LOL no. Nobody with status flies basic cause it doesn’t count towards PQF and minimal PQP.
