The M140i Is Awful On Track ...Or Is It? - Donnington Hot Lap

- A lot of people slate the handling of the M140i's, and say things like ''It's just a 1 series with a big engine" But I beg to differ, and with the right modifications it can be easily improved.
I think pushing the M140i around the famous circuit Donnington in today's video really surprised me, and a lot other people on that track day who were on track at the same time. It made me realise that in reality, it doesn't actually matter what you drive, it's more about your skills as a driver!
I hope that, if you are thinking about buying one and tracking it occasionally, then you certainly can. It can take it, but subtle modifications like a limited slip differential, upgraded dampers and springs and the under body brace massively improve the handling and you will notice it, even more on track.
Please let me know what your thoughts are on this in the comments section below!

Great video! I really need to get my M140i out on track this year! I’ve only did one track day in my car a year or so ago and since then been building the car.
I’ve swapped all the bushes out for Millway Motorsport ones, M Performance LSD and soo much more.
Keep up the brilliant M140i videos mate!
I also am running M performance LSD, millway rear subframe solid bushings and bilstein B12. Do you also have some more noise coming from the rear end sometimes ? The car is so planted now though and doesn't feel like a pudding anymore. Also had some proper alignment done and the car is unrecognizable now in terms of handling, proper fun. DSC off full send and even when wheelspinning or sliding it all feels so composed, more like an M car, not anymore like a 116i m sport with big engine in it lol
Have you got yours out on track yet ? Would like to hear more feedback as thinking of buying one which would get used for a few traqcks days also.
Great vid
Thanks Ian!
what brake fluid are you using ? I'm about to do my first trackday with the M140i and am running endless me20 brakepads with castrol srf brake fluid.
At the time, Motul 660 but I had already done a hard track day at Bedford a while before. So it wasn’t fresh.
I think you’ll be fine with Castrol SRF and Endless pads!
Sounds like you’re ready to hit the track! Hope it goes well.
I am looking for a car that i can do around 5k road miles per year and drive to / from 3 or 4 track days a year. I assume the Mods made a fair difference ? Any negatives ?
Non-negatives, only improvements, in particular the suspension upgrades and ‘slip diff. Surprisingly, it’s a great cruiser.
Nice ! Mods ? No LSD?
M Performance LSD, Bilstein Dampers/Eibach springs and underbody brace.
what was your fastest lap
Not sure - I wasn’t timing. I could work it out from the video though.
It’s not the car, it’s the driver I’d say!!
Yea, I agree. I think the car helps tho! If it’s a shit car, there’s only so far you can make it go around the track.
@@roadreg1820 the M140 is a fantastic car, just needs to be set up correctly if doing track days!
Pointless taking a road going car & think it will stop, grip & Handel like a track toy!
@@darrenboston342 Exactly the whole point of my video.
does that dashcam noise not drive you nuts? every vid i watch it's always going off, quite annoying icl
Yeah it does tbh 😂😂
@@roadreg1820 🤣 I'd disable it or literally bin it if I couldn't turn that off, fair play for putting up with it 😭
