Bahamut was shooting for the mountain but odin deflected it to their armies. They both knew if they continued it would be a disaster
I love how the main question in FF16 is "Why would Gods need armies?", and the answer it gives is "Gods can't hold territory".
It's not a very good answer when the gods can just eliminate the soldiers. The plausible explanation would be that gods need to save up their energy to fight other gods.

To explain what happened in the scene, the showoff between the Eikons are just for deterrence. Similar to how Nukes work in real world, Mutually assured destruction (MAD). Bahamut only appeared when the threat of Odin enters the battlefield. Odin, maybe could have just wipe out the entire battlefield, leaving only mostly his armies, but Bahamut appearing signals that if he did so, Bahamut could have easily return the favor. That's why most of their casualty seems like just collateral. They don't want show direct attack as the other monster could just easily do the same.

@@htxnbalikely in this case both Eikons are just showing off to give their armies a morale boost. But even when they were just intimidating each other lots of destruction was left in its wake.

Basically just intimidating each other. It's kind of a big deal for them to fight in eikon forms and there's just so much collateral damage that they really shouldn't be doing it too much around their own men. Still they know how much death is caused by just a little show of power yet they don't care, kinda shows how fucked up the dominants are

The goal wasn’t to kill the soldiers, it was to make Odin fall back to avoid unnecessary destruction
There is an unwritten rule in Valisthea where if one nation summons their Eikon, the opposing nation should also respond with their Eikon in return
The way Odin is just standing cliffside as the prince and assistant stare him down is an epic backdrop

Bahamut is always been a majestic creatures and powerful with a fückup personality. Good thing his dominant Dion is a good man in this new iteration of him.
Odin has always had a kool edgy style to him in the games, but he generally did less damage the bahamut... and bahamut is a dragon so he kinda has a free win against most other summons. shiva was pretty good for generally being a sexy ice lady though?

I watched the stream. I will say, I have never seen asmon being so entranced by a video game since the time I have been watching him.
This game amazing it's the combination of everything I personally like, crazy battle scenes with armies and giants fighting like God of War 3, a good story and great characters with a fantastic soundtrack like Witcher 3, a really fun and satisfying combat system with tons of ways you can combine your attacks like DMC. It deserved so much more than just 88 metacritic in my opinion
Witcher's soundtrack is mid at best...

It looked like they just goofed off a bit, but they pretty much made exchange of their strongest moves and reached stalemate.
Bahamut Megaflare is feared breath of death and Zantetsuken of Odin is famous 1 hit blow kill. They used them against each other and knew they would not survive direct hit of each other unscathed.
These are BY FAR the weakest moves they each have, without spoilers.

No he is. The enemy king decided to use his Godly power to aid the war, therefor he fought to show the king that Godly power is not the answer to enemy who have same power too and only bring more destructive. Basically saying I have nuke, you have nuke, but let's not use it. Yeah yeah i'm fun at parties.
@@gg5151 its mroe than that, it is tiresome to use those powers, you cant expect them to be able to keep that form 100% of the time. staying in the field to aid the army after the presence of another, would just be giving them a big target to release some bullshit on them.

@@gg5151 except its a bad play in this case but you probably dont know. in FF lore odin is known as the single strongest summoning, so showing off bahamut while powerful to others is childsplay and likely the reason odins army felt cocky about attacking. its a candle to a bonfire, an rpg vs a nuke

In other final fantasys sure, but 16 appears to not give any eikon the strongest place, rather they are all powerful in their place of expertise, it is the dominant who uses their eikon effectively. Shiva vs titan, titan you would expect to be more tankier and outlasts Shiva was put into a stalemate weakening both dominants at the end of the fight
If anyone was confused, my guess as to why Bahamut took to the field and only exchanged a few blows, is that if he hadnt, Odin would have eliminated their forces in a flash.
Him going out there to face him served as a distraction to divert attention away from the army and to drain his mana. Making it a battle of attrition.

War is about resources for a desired goal. You can't care about individuals. Generals know they will have to expend soldiers, and the soldiers know deep down it's how it works. If Dion would hesitate everytime a soldier was in danger, he'd be in deep disadvantage.

It seems many people didnt get this scene, as mentioned many times in the lore, Eikons are like weapons of mass destruction, if one uses it the other will use it too causing mutual destruction just like irl. The short fight was enough to prove that point as many soldiers got nuked by both sides.

Aye so. In the game we've heard that priming (turning into the Eikon) takes a ton of Aether. They can't hold it forever.
We've also heard someone say, in regards to Titan at the time, that were the Eikon to take the field, there wouldn't be much left of their troops had they sent in some to aid the army.
Eikons are a massive drain of power and will kill everyone around from their fighting. Bahamut only went out to stop Odin from decimating the troops. So they had a brief clash, and that's all that was needed.
Just a quick "Go back or I will be there to stop you."
I was wondering why it only lasted for a minute but this explanation makes sense
they definitely CAN fight for much longer. But they both know if they clash seriously, their countries are both stripped of their army anyway so better not

They fight to prove one another is willing to use lethal force but if they went all out their armies would be killed in their fight, making the entire battle pointless. So they have to hold each other at bay unless one gets a distinct advantage
I noticed that most of the VS battles are usually someone or something on the Ground vs Air design vise like Ifrit vs Phoenix, Shiva Vs Titan, Odin Vs Bahamut (Even though Odins horse is riding on air) etc.
can you even count titan vs shiva a ground vs air battle, when titan size makes him high enough to reach the ones in the sky?

It's probably a design choice since ground to air automatically freed up a dimension to be creative whereas straight ground combat would be a bit tougher to make a glorious fight

Just like how Shiva and Titan's clash in the beginning. They didn't fight to the death. They only fought for a brief moment and leave with a massive deaths on the field.

True, but to be fair, was it supposed to? D4 is an online only looter game where the focus is on dopemine hits from getting cool drops. FF 16 is a single player story driven game with action combat. Seems weird to compare them.

@@tylermca8616 lol just the intro scenes before you really get to play in ff16 beat the whole story of diablo 4 and it's cutscenes. I enjoy diablo 4 for wasting time but everything about it was very underwhelming. Final fantasy 16 made me feel fun and excitement, something a game hasn't done in years. D4 will have a way longer game life but the experiences and emotions in one play through of ff16 will obliterate that. Like I said it's just a time waster, just because you'll waste days and weeks grinding away doesn't make it a good experience. My first day playing ff16 totally outweighs everything I did in a week of d4. Sorry for ranting just first game that has made me excited in a long time.
