Bees LOVE Echinops ritro

  • Here we see our lovely lavender, completely ignored by the bees. Instead, they really prefer the Echinops ritro.
    If asked what single plant in our garden attracts the most bees of various species, I say, with no hesitation, Echinops ritro.
    You may mistake the plant itself for a weed - it is large leafed, sort of prickly, and just looks like a weed you missed during the last weeding frenzy. But in June these amazing powder blue "globes" appear (hence the common name, "Globe Thistle") and within hours of the first floret popping open, the bees arrive. And all sorts of bees. Everything from Mimic bees, Sweat Bees, Masons and Carpenters, Bumbles and Honey Bees and probably a few I don't even know about, lol.
    So if you really want the plant with the most bee attraction, give Echinops ritro a try...

    The first plant is not lavender !
