This overnight heatless curls method using a bathrobe belt has been all over social media in the past month or two, especially on Tic Toc. I saw this technique from @Laineymariebeauty several months back on Instagram and was so intrigued to see how this overnight heatless curls technique would work on shorter hair. Have you tried this heatless curls or waves method on your hair? How did it work out?

For girls with thick hair who don't get flawless results: our hair isn't meant for heatless styles that include water. Since our hair is thick and being compressed with twists and braids, your hair will take FOREVER to dry and when you think that it's time to un-twist your hair, chances are that it'll still be a bit damp and your hair will get poofy and frizzy once it completely dries after undoing your twists/braids. So from someone with thick hair who has tried SEVERAL heatless methods, I have found that damping your hair with gel does wonder! it keeps your curls in place and your hair won't get poofy or frizzy. I use the Suave max hold sculpting gel 8. it's cheap, non-sticky, fast drying and alcohol-free! btw it doesn't leave your hair feeling crunchy or stiff.. depending on how much you use of course. Really hope this helps someone :)
Normal braids work pretty well. Or boxer braids
So true!!
Thank youđ I will try it out.
Awesome tip ! I struggle with the frizzy hair if I did it damp . And never knew the trick to using some Hold Gel lucky I just bought some
Ty! I'll prob not be allowed but thx
I think its so adorable her husband helps her and films for her too, they are so wholesome
Ohhhh, that's her hubby?? I just LOVE how he plays the part of the 'sidekick' like on those late-night talk shows, hahaha!!! So cute! đž
So lucky girl
I wasnât convinced and then you side parted it and WOW! Looks so good!
Ikr! I was like damn đ€
She pulled it off better than anyone Iâve seen!
I agree!
I obviously agree im definetly trying this
I think it looked good even before the side part!!
This is definitely the best review of this method Iâve seen, especially on short hair. Love that you thought about the back of your head while you were doing it, instead of just curling in the front and then complaining about the back like a few people Iâve seen. Also liked that you didnât go in with heat but actually fluffed them and made it work without fixing it with heat straight away, I havenât seen anyone do that but it actually looked so good once you fluffed it out like that and didnât even need heat! And thank you for the end of day update too.
Hello, everyone!!!
I would first like to comment that I was an Irish dancer growing up. So, this is a lot more comfortable, than sleeping in the plastic curlers that I did. And, just so you know, I was not part of the wig phase. We used to curl our hair naturally. I blame Michael Flatley for this...
When I first found out that this method existed, just about three months ago, I was so ecstatic. The beautiful thing, about my hair, is that it takes curls amazingly well. I just don't like using a curler. My hair isn't damaged and I want to keep it that way.
So, I have shoulder length hair right now and it is pretty fine, and I would suggest, using a bandana. So you don't have to buy a robe to get the rope with it. Only use the bathrobe if you have seriously long hair. And, since I have done this about six times now, at the end of the bandana, there isn't much left. So place the little bit of bandana over your hair, when you twist it, and then put it in a hair tie or scrunchie. I prefer just a hair tie. I don't like the scrunchy feeling.
As for product, I sometimes, spray some hairspray, after both buns are made. But, you absolutely have to, damp your hair, to keep it curly all day.
I also I have a subscription to Ipsy and I recently got a leave-in conditioner. What I do is spray a small amount in my hand, first, and then scrunch up my hair, and it instantly, becomes frizz-free. So that is something that worked for me.
I hope this is helpful and I am so glad, Milabu, you did this!!! You looked beautiful and it just takes a couple of times to figure it out. And, if you do want to do this in the morning, keep it in for at least 5 to 8 hours. Even two hours, my hair is completely curled.
Thanks for this information. Need to try it with a bandana !đ
I just tried this on my daughter for picture day. After it was sitting for an hour, I realized I twisted the wrong way. đ€Šââïžhereâs hoping it still turns out ok.
**UPDATE** they still worked!
This is a new twist on what those of us born in the 50âs would do called rag curls. Yes this started during the depression when money was tight. Yes even the finest straightest hair like mine would curl like Shirley temple and last all day. This is how my grandma curled my hair for picture day
Rags curls have actually been around far longer than the great depression... it was a very popular curling method in the Victorian era and was very likely used by people prior to that.
Rag curls have been traced as far back as the Greek. This is a very well documented method :)
My mom use to do my sister and my hair in rag curls all the time
Can we use any cloth or special type of fabric is needed for this?
Fay Coleman thanks for sharing
Just a tip - to get the hair more curly at the back, you add sections from the back AND The front as you are twisting around the rope, so the back pieces get incorporated into it xx
I thought that is what she did!!!!
She did that ?
@@MsWarriordiva not at 1st she didn't.
The initial reveal reminded me of Kitty from That 70âs show
Yesssss! Even when they fell out they looked so good
WritingElephant oh yeah she can pull off anything really!
70s hairstyles are underrated
I've been doing this for a while. My hair is medium length, straight and fine. My hair doesn't usually hold a curl for more than an hour, but this wave will stay in my hair for two days. I double the belt for bigger curls/waves and wrap my damp hair around and secure overnight (not the most comfortable). In the morning I get an amazing beachy wave and I love it. đ
Thats a good idea to double the belt. I will try this, thank u!
I tried this last night. I was REALLY REALLY happy with the results. I have a side part, and it was difficult for me to wrap my hair around the robe chord on my deep side, but this was overall the best method for heatless curls overnight. For years i've used pigtail braids, french braids and dutch braids. but my hair was always wavy and messy. This hairstyle works the best on both short and long hair. I've seen a lot of reviews on this method and a lot of girls were very impressed/satisfied with their results. I would definitely recommend using this technique!
Would you do a tutorial, please????!!!
@@user-fv7lr3ue3v im really self conscious on how i look on camera, i would if i was more confident :(
If you do it parted in the middle, then flip it to the side when you take it out, it will give you more lift at your root :)
@@candaceion9622 i did it on the side, spliting it in the middle got uncomfortable and when i resplit my hair, some of the hair went in the opposite direction
She actually does both a front and back section simultaneously, like a french braid! You're only doing the front!
True. I watched the other video before I watched this one, and I was wondering how this would turn out.
Exactly...do a front section...then a back section...like a French braided using the belt as the middle strand of hair...why not just French or Dutch braid your hair...same result?
@@eileenmaschal9505 1) Not the same at all, maybe on different hair results are similar but mine look nothing alike 2) dries better
@@eileenmaschal9505 It's definitely more curly with this method because the rope is much thicker than a hair strand is ( I have tried both methods). I hope this is helpful! I know I'm 8 months late so sorry if you already worked this out haha
?
I love how you would always do a quick preview/ update at the end of the day to show us how they fell out. Thanks this way we have a better idea ! đđđđ
Iâve tried the method, Iâve got longer hair than you , I havenât used anything on my hair, I just did it after washing my hair and when it was nearly dry. It lasted until the next wash and Iâm very glad I donât have to use wands again
This is the only way Iâve done my hair for the past month!! Itâs amazing, Iâm obsessed, and Iâm sticking to it! I have long naturally wavy/frizzy hair and this looks amazing on it! I wash my hair about 2x a week and while itâs still pretty wet (more than damp), I add itâs a 10 serum to my ends and Paul Mitchell thicken up styling liquid to my roots. I do the robe tie twist method a little differently. For my very back sections on both side, I twist the alternating direction at the end. And after tying the ends, I leave the two twists falling straight down. I tried the side bun thingy to keep it out of the way at night and it made my curls deformed. So I sleep with them hanging down like pigtails and find it much more comfortable than tying them up also - Iâm a side sleeper as well. In the morning, I take it all out, brush through them with my fingers or brush, apply hairspray as needed, and go on about my day! These curls do settle down to more waves after 3 or so days, but I still love the look on my long hair. And thatâs it. I use no heat at all and wash my hair only 2x a week now and itâs grown so much since starting!!
@CaitlynKothe it's almost 2 years since you posted this comment so I don't know if you'll see my reply or answer it but I would love to hear how you do the very back section. I can't envision what you mean --- "For my very back sections on both side, I twist the alternating diredction at the end." Do you mean if you've been twisting all the hair away from your face you start twisting it towards your face? Doesn't mean that some of the hair falls off the belt because you twist your hair foward you are basically undoing what you've been twisting? Thank you for your explanation.
I can't wait to try this! Please could you do an 'updated' testing of this method with products that work for you to get the frizz down and help the curls last all day? TY! đ
Thank you for showing us how it looks from the back! So many CZcamsrs never consider that
I usually tie up the robe ends around my head like Iâm doing braid crown and itâs pretty comfortable to sleep in!
Smart !!! đ
I'm doing this as we speak for the first time.
Let's just face it; you have a magical touch when it comes to hair. I have tried this before and the results were so so for me. I am going to get a bonnet hair dryer so I don't have to sleep with these uncomfortable situations. I remember being so happy when blowdryers became prevalent because I hated the bonnets but they have their place.
Seriously this is just amazing. I ran into the shower to wet my hair and try this seconds after I watched this on Facebook. And I have never had so many compliments on my hair ever! My hair is long, vawy/curly and dry and kind of thin and this made it so voluminous and big. You look amazing and thanks for sharing!
Also I added a bit of curl gel after to help with the frizz.
I tried this method. My hair is about the same length as yours. I folded the robe belt is half. It made bigger curls and wasnât as awkward to sleep in. You look stunning with this styleâ€ïžâ€ïž
I did it last night and it worked like a dream! Very happy with my curls! Thank you again! Sending you love and gratitude! â€ïž
Thank you for the honest HONEST video!! đ I been looking Thru videos and I dont feel like they are being "real". So thanks again.
You are so genuine, I loved this tutorial. So hard to find someone with short hair doing this. Thanks!
I really liked the way it relaxed by the end of the day as opposed to when you first took it down from the belt. Wow!! Really cool!!
Finally someone with hair my length so I can see how this works on shorter hair. Trying this for sure - your hair looks great and Iâm happy you showed the back.
I have done this method over 10 times now and I have loved the results each time!
Definitely trying this tonight! I swear by just doing 2 rope braids before bed, and that gives me a nice beachy wave. This is beautiful, and not much different than what I already do. Thank you!
I swear I could wait 72 hours and my not thick hair would still not be dry in braids of any kind⊠no matter how small they are or even if my hair is like 90% dry.. it just like traps the moisture in đ«
@@fournomore Mine does as well.. I have to dry my hair completely, but it still works! I recommend giving it a go!
I love how easy you make it lookđ your channel inspires me do better and grow more. Thank you!
this is what is called rag curls and we used a hair net over our heads when we were done. rag curls can be done individual or like you just did. the hair net was a triangle netting that was tied over the head (like a scarf), I always tied mine in the back so there were no bumps to sleep on. then we graduated to pin curls and I use to dry curl my hair at night, wrap it in the net and the curls would last from washing to washing. then we went to rollers (beer cans). those were awful to sleep on.
I did rag curls as a kid and it wasnât this. We cut up old pillow cases and use it like rollers
@@Jessicamae1988 both are rag curls. it can be done like you said or like this with a very long strip. my mom's mother did the long strip kind on them most of the time. she was born in 1912 and it was a thing her mother did on her as well :)
Side sleeper? Try this modification that works for me.
Once I finish wrapping a side, I donât just elastic the hair to the belt. Instead, I take a tiny section of the belt right where Iâve ended wrapping that side and fold it up over the very end of the wrapped hair, trapping the tail end of hair inside the little folded up belt section. Then I put an elastic around just that flip fold (so I donât have to pull the entire length of the robe belt through the elastic.) Donât do the âbunâ thing with the long rope end. Instead, I just tie the two robe belt ends in a very loose knot behind my neck and sleep quite comfortably on my side. Love the results!
Iâve been doing this for a few weeks, works really well!
I love the bathrobe belt method for heartless curls. Works better on my hair (wavy, fine) & results last for days.
I tried this and loved the results. I have long hair and would like the curls to last longer, now I do need a cut so when that is allowed it might make the difference.
I'm sitting here realizing I've been watching your videos for almost 4 years now. I donated my hair in 2016 and you totally gave me more confidence in doing being able to go through with it. You had almost white hair then haha but I loved watching your tutorials with a bunch of styles in one video. Love you girl!
Just did this on my above the shoulder hair but with tube socks lol wow you look even more beautiful with curls loved it đđ»đđ»
I did this last night and it worked really well! I usually have a hard time with heatless curls, but this was awesome.
I have medium length, thick hair for reference!
Iâm glad to see someone doing this with shorter hair. I watched the first tutorial with someone with waist length hair and failed miserably. So I will definitely give this a try tonight. Thank you so much. You look very, very pretty. Itâs very feminine. Iâve seen a few other CZcams videos and they show you how to tie it up at night so that it doesnât bother you when you sleep.
That side part was a game changer! The end result is absolutely BEAUTIFUL
It's been ten months after my pixie haircut, thanks to the pandemic. I can color my hair myself (though I'd much rather not), but I can't cut it, so your channel is a godsend. Thanks for all the hairstyle and product videos so I can do something with my hair in this awful, in-between stage.
My mom actually did this when i was a kid. She would get an old bedsheet and cut it in pieces. We call it " papillotten". U can use it in many ways. Like u did around the head, or just like little bits and pieces at a time.
AnOukiieJh Queen My grandmother also called it "papelotes" in Portuguese and it was done in little pieces one for each lock of hair.
My mum done that too when I was a wee girl. She called it âRagsâ đđ
me too we called it rags
Radley Rayne ditto
Does it hurt your neck to sleep on?
Absolutely beautiful curls on you! Loved how they fell out too. Iâve got super thick waist length straight layered hair. Think Iâll try this of a morning instead of overnight too as Iâm a side sleeper & would struggle to sleep with the robe belt in my hair. Love your results. Also love Andreyâs blue shirt đđđ x
AH! Thank you so much, momma! They turned out so good đđ„â€ïž
I LOVE how this turned out! Looks gorgeous!!! Im definitely going to try this method!! Thanks for sharing this with us!!
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over theređđđ
Nice!!! Iâve been growing my hair out for nearly two years now and have been looking for cool things to try! Excited to see how thisâll do with mine! Thanks for the tip! đđŒ
Going try this. Now I know it works on short hair! Looks great!
omg it works.I tried it and i am obssesed.I do this every time when i curl my hair.â€đđ
This is basically rag curls. I have done both and itâs the only way I can get my hair to stay curly. There are better ways to tie it off for more comfortable sleeping.
My hair is beyond straight and resembles shiny plastic black wigs. I found applying a little mousse while my hair is damp gives it longer lasting curl and a bit less frizz. I brush it after itâs set and then twist the curls into the size curl clump that I want and Iâm usually good for 2-3 days or when my hair gets wet. Heat or steam curling lasts maybe an hour even with product.
I've tried that 3 days ago. My hair is just a bit longer than yours. I used a fake silk robe band and just tied it with a soft scrunchie at the end. Also I just let the ends hanging. I've got nice beachy waves and they are still in my hair after 3 days. I prepped my hair with oil and let it air dry to 80% đ„°
Your hair turned out gorgeous!
Your hair is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!
Rag curls were the inly styling method I tolerated as a child. Got them every Saturday evening.
JB W me too!
Mom pin curled my hair every Saturday night .
I had curlers in a high ponytail every Sat night. âșïž
Iâm always in the market for different ways to save my hair from heat- Iâll definitely have to try this! The curls came out super cute! With a little hair oil and a touch of hairspray you might be able to tame some of the frizz. Thanks for trying this out for us short-haired ladies :)
The curls look so beautiful and natural.
They look like natural curls! Sort of like mine when I leave it to dry on its own overnight (mine is more frizzy than this, but near enough haha)
Next you should try to do individual strips for tighter curls! That is how I do it. It takes about 24 strips of old cotton shirt or pillow case(I use pillow case because my hair is long) it also allows me to get the curls all the way to my scalp in the back. It's also much more comfortable for us side sleepers. My hair is naturally pretty wavy so it will hold the tight curls until I wash it again. I do this method on dry hair, though people with less natural wave to their hair could dampen it first.
@milabu Thank you for showing us "Medium" hair length girls that it not only works, but it looks great too. In your video (@ 3:34), you mention that you're "not really understanding how the back of the hair is going to get incorporated?" Your technique and curls look great, and that was what I was looking for. In regards to your question, I had watched another heatless curl video before yours. It's called "HEATLESS CURLS/SHONAGH SCOTT." @shonaghscott uses the robe belt as well, but her technique is different. She includes the back of her hair during the wrapping process around the belt. Again, thank you for your medium length hair videoâŁïž đđ»
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over theređđđ
Surprised how good this looks!!
She's so adorable! And she explains this technique so well! Im gonna try it for sure !Thank you so much! God bless you!
Iv done this for years, using a stretch head band. I always get compliments x
I love doing this! I do mine a little different, I go around the crown of my head and meet in the middle back, middle of my head instead of the base of my neck. Then I twist them tight and tie it in a bow in the back. I sleep on the side of my head so this way is the most comfortable for me.
Really enjoyed this video. beautiful curls and held up well .
Short curls look very gorge on you omgg! I'm gonna use this method, thank you!!
Honestly, I am still confused how you parted your hair perfectly in the back đŻ
She used a comb to part in the beginning

lmao why BRICK HECK as your profile hahah love that guy
@@partypower2708 I know right? Heâs such a mood lol
Sheâs really good at hands on he4 own hair! A pro !
Looks stunning, I'm an 80s lady so I wore my hair a lot like that, but you put a modern version đđđđ»
Me too girl. A little frizz looks natural.i have natural wavy hair but want ti try this to get bigger curls.
YES this makes sense once you described it as a French braid. Thank you!
I love it, doesn't have to be perfect, your hair looks beautiful !!!
Man I been gone so long that watching this video Iâm like why does her face look different...then you mentioned your pillow and I was like đ sheâs pregnantâ€ïž Iâm late but congratulations Iâm so happy for you! And Iâm glad you did this hair trick and was honest about it â€ïž I used to do this but with a headband. Iâd do a cute style for the day then sleep in it and let it out the next day, it was a two in one for me but I was interested in this one because the belt looks like it adds more volume
Beautiful, you look stunning before and after! Woohoo, canât wait to try this on my pin-straight hair.
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over theređđ
Love it! Looks like you were born with curly hair, so natural!
Love your hair tutorial videos! đ„
Iâve seen people fold the belt in half with this method for looser waves! It may also be interesting to try French braiding with the belt in.
second đ€Ł glad you tested these. I've been curious if they REALLY work.
Straight to the point, and descriptive!
Thank you so much for this awesome hairtutorial! I really have to try it out today.
A tip for you from someone who have mixed hair type of curly wavy and straight
If you do this and want to avoid frizz or flyes just add a scarf ( like hijab) after finishing the style (the method)
It's preferred to do it during the day
And after the hair drys and you open it
The curls will stay like this (might falls abit) but you won't get any frizz trust me on that ( the scarf also doesn't need to be tight on the head it's just to tame the hair itself)
One last thing (it's about my hair ): I have a very straight hair from roots till my ears (end of them) than till my back it's a mix of curls and waves ,the bangs or hairs especially infront of my ears to my face is pretty straight . I've been putting my hair into like buns or just twist the hair together like u did without the rob belt and than throws a scarf on it and let the hair drys than take everything out
It works very well .
Also just for the records as I said my hair is already curly x wavy x straight but so I usually do this when I want to define some of the curls/waves in my hair
You also won't need any tools later on or anything it will last a pretty good time (till the next wash)
But for a whole straight hair just apply a hair setting spray it will keep the curls well (tried it on my sister she has a very straight hair)
You are my hair twin!!
Omg your hair type is same as mineđđand trust me it looks horrible when its frizzyđđ I have been struggling with my hair since a really long time .The length of my hair is upto my hip and omg they are falling a lot freaking a lot. I am also having hairfall problem since a long time and yesterday and day before yesterday literally alot of my hair fell and I was feeling very sad while looking my maybe 200 to 300 hair on the ground and all of them fell directly from the root đđŹđ
You should try the version this girl named Shonagh Scott did and compare results. I think her version is easier for shoulder length hair because she does a 3 âstrandâ twist and it helps keep the hair tighter. Her version also gives a better all over head wavy curl. I tried both methods and I prefer the results of her method.
This 2 âstrandâ method like the version Milabu did is not easy to keep tight once you get to the bottom of your hair and for me it was difficult to get the elastic around the ends. This version gives more voluminous curls on the ends of your hair, which are good for ponytail curls. I had to use my smoothing serum to get rid of some of the frizz and poofy volume. The results are good for wearing ponytail hairstyles, but the curls arenât even all over, so youâd have to go back and fix it if you want to wear it down.
Tips for shoulder length and shorter hair : if you have a silk or non-cotton type robe, use that belt instead. Itâs a lot easier to use with elastics. Also, I fold my belt in half and used an elastic to hold the side with separated strands together. That way you donât have anything dangling and itâs easier to manage when twisting.
I tried this method last night. I have to say that I prefer the results of the three stand method much more. Just as simple too
This literally made no sense on all other videos, thanks so much !! â€ïž
It looks amazing !!
People that know you, must think you spent hours on your hair at the salon for this look.
Your hair looks absolutely marvelous with this large wave curl in it.
you are so good at going slowly and showing us clearly. thank you so much!

One word, WOW! All your videos were amazing. â€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïž
Looks amazing when you flipped it to the side. WOW!!
My mother did this with me and my sister in the 50âs
Love it!! Going to try it! I have Irish/Polish hair where the curls fall out quickly. I like the idea of wetting/gelling the hair before. Excited to try!!
Hello how are you doing hope you're safe over theređđđ
That worked so well! Love it.
Love it. looks so natural.
You should check out Shonagh Scott here on CZcams - she did this a few days ago and made a slight variation on it that worked a treat!!
She did a âdouble twistâ on the belt - split the hair along the best and the front was twisted as you show, then the back bit was twisted over/under just like the front, so that she was working with two separate strands of hair... I did it on my own hair thatâs as long as yours and it looked amazing... gave so much body and bounce and I didnât get that dip in the back ;)
I was going comment with this. Her results where incredible with that method also.
and she tied the robe ends on top of her head, which looked more easy to sleep in it
Been doing this for over 50 years. So much better for healthy hair!

Wanted to see how it looks with short hair. So here I'm and happy to watch your video. It looks beautiful!
Iâve been using that technique for few years now and Iâve never put the ends in bun, I just let them down. Itâs more comfortable to sleep like that. I have long hair, itâs naturally wavy and my curls stay 2-3 days :))
