- Live at Montreux 1986 is a concert video release by the British synth pop band Talk Talk of a concert at 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The show was part of a tour that started in April 1986 to promote the band's recent album The Colour of Spring, and was to be their only appearance at Montreux, from their last tour.
For this tour, the usual trio of Mark Hollis (vocals), Paul Webb (bass), and Lee Harris (drums) was augmented by John Turnbull on guitar, two percussion players, and two keyboard players. As often, de facto fourth band member Tim Friese-Greene did not play on stage with the band.
:: Living In Another World ::
Better parted
I see people crying
Truth gets harder
There's no sense in lying
Help me
Find my way from this maze
I can't help myself
When I see tenderness before you left
(Forget)
That even breaking up was never meant
(Forget)
But only angels look before they tread
(Forget)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
Better parted
I see people hiding
Speech gets harder
There's no sense in writing
Help me
Find the way from this maze
I can't help myself
When I see tenderness before you left
(Forget)
That even breaking up was never meant
(Forget)
But only angels look before they tread
(Forget)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
(Living in another world to you)
Help me
Find a way from this maze
I'm living in another world to you
And I can't help myself
Did I see tenderness where you saw hell?
(Forget)
Did I see angels in the hand I held?
(Forget)
God only knows what kind of tale you'd tell
(Forget)

I come back to this over and over and over again. This is by far one of the holy grail benchmarks of what a live performance should be. EVERY band and artist should watch this and aspire to be even just a fraction this good. Mark Hollis was one of the most reluctant front men of any band but he was SOOOO good. I love the fact that he helped create the music he did with Talk Talk and then just disappeared from the limelight. Absolute legendary band. Those who know.... know.
Absolutely
@@MrLeonDude recken mate...this performance is just incredible!!!
I turn up volume to max once a while and listen to this magic live performance 👌
Magical my favourite band
Gareth Jones. Great comment. Agree with you 100%. I love and respect the fact he did what he did and dropped out at his peak. Proved he wasnt an attention seeking bellend like so many others in the music industry. A true and complete talent. Like you said, those who know .... know, thats all that counts.
Today it’s been 3 years since you passed away ✨, your legacy is eternal . Gracias Mark
“He was of course a genius” - from Lee Harris’ obituary of Mark
no cell phones, no autotune, no lip sync, just pure new wave at its best.
Max Wheeler - how true!!
Right! Masterpiece that it's needed to be visited from time to time
Dodgy vests and mullets though.
👊
Such a voice of him. Indeed.
Band absolutely on point here.... so glad someone had the good sense to record this for posterity.
And very well recorded
Mark Hollis was a true genius, it doesn't get any better. RIP fella.
Si que hay algo mejor Led Zeppelin
Oh my. I had no idea that he passed away. I'm heartbroken now
I am 61 years young, the amount of energy blasting of the screen, in their music makes me feel 25 years again, full of energy and this is just freaking good music ;-)
I am 61 to and Love this Song so much forever one of my Favorit Songs 🖤
Yeah only if we could live forever and listen to this kind of music always@@user-vm4tg8rr5g
His voice OMG!!! Mark Hollis legend
Talk Talk were, are, always be be, an extraordinary band.
They started out as a familiar 1980's new wave/synth-pop act, scoring a hit with the brilliant 'It's My Life' but by the early 1990's had morphed into a highly atmospheric progressive rock band.
Mark Hollis was a genius, pure-and-simple.
I love Talk Talk, and I always will.
First time hearing this song. Amazing-brought tears.
After so many years, I strongly beleive that Mark Hollis left from the stage without his soul at that performance!!!!
RIP Mark 1956-2019 Your Musis and Talent Liveth Evermore!
Unique vocalist. One of a kind! 👌🏻
Seriously! How can anyone in their right state of mind thumb this down!
One that has the brain size of a snail perhaps? No logical explanation otherwise...
Sadly, it's because they aren't in the right state of mind. We must pity them.
Mark Hollis RIP !! Thank you for just rocking us, man these guys had it down.
I keep coming back to it too, pure genius, this is the best you will ever see a band perform live. Just brilliant can't fault it, pure passion
Remember Talk Talk from the 80’s so underrated they are brilliant check them out people love from Ireland 🇮🇪🍀
One of my favorite songs of all time and this version is amazing.
I only cried once because of a musician's passing and that was Prince. And today.
I remember the beautiful summer of 1984. I was 14 when "Such a Shame" was released in Germany. I wanted to
get the maxi-version on vinyl which was not available in my German hometown, so I had to travel by train on this very hot summer day to the next larger city in order to get it. Those were the days where one had to put in some effort to get only one song.
Mark Hollis belonged to the best songwriters and singers in history. And I will not stop getting goose-bumps listening to his songs. He was truly a genius who did not give a fiddlers fok about fame and fortune which makes him so loveable to begin with.
Rest well, Mark. Thank you for the music. Enjoy "Living in another world"!
Never to be forgotten.
Mark Hollis was one of the best.
True. Thank you for your words.
Amen
Nice brillant come mate. Danke.
Great comment fella i agree 100%👌
Every time I watch this performance I get overwhelmed by just how good it is.
Truth....
same here
I can’t agree with you more! ❤️
Once he said: I write songs forever - who you can hear forever - he got right :-)
I've now lost track of my viewing times....
What a band this was...
There is just NO room for improvement in this performance by all the band. Out of this world!
This performance is absolutely incredible and I also keep returning to watch this video, over and over again
Mark Hollis!! Que en paz descanses y gracias x tu música!!
I just love the way Mark sits down and just absorbs the music right between vocals....he is just so into the music and he is one of a kind, RIP Sir Mark Hollis, you truly are the most amazing musician ever. I first heard your songs when I was just three years old and every day I play your music...Thank you for everything, where ever you may be...we all miss you!
Well said Danny - 64 year old guy still admires TT. Mark left us too soon.
Mark was a head banger to music that’s supremely better than head banger music!
¡Bufffff la carne de gallina! Y subo más el volumen...otra vez
Se entregava de verdade! Acho ele meio tristinho😢
Tenía una voz Unica!!♥️
still think this is the best song I've heard in the 57 years of my live. My favorite album of all time.
One of my alltime fav Talk Talk charts and this rendition in 1986 Montreux....absolutely mind blowing....

Wenn zwei Liebende zueinander finden wollen, gibt es IMMER einen Weg❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
One of the most Underrated Bands of the 80's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
True!!!
Most underrated? Where? In England?
They are widely recognized genius by everyone who knows anything
I totally agree! They’re incredibly talented. New wave in general is underrated, as well.
D'une intensitê rarement égalée me semble-t-il. Un vrai bonheur!
It doesn't get much better than this. This is the kind of bass player every band wants. And the intensity of the drummer. It's just awesome.
Paul Webb (Rustin Man), the bass player just released a fantastic record.Check it out.
my favourite comment on youtube ever, fabian,du hast augen und ohren, hast du gut gemacht, buddy
@@yangro2s235 his album with Beth Gibbons is also amazing
Lesia Umanets It is!
I couldn't agree more. Paul Webb is an amazing bass player, I wish the camera man had focused on him more.
I Miss this band the most out of the 80s

Best Instrumental Band of the 80s
RIP Mark. Best of the 80's music.
This music never gets old
What a sound. What a voice. What a concert.
This performance just got me out my socks and right into heaven.. I used to listen to Talk Talk back in the 80s but somehow I lost musical track. When I listened to my favorite song from then - this one, live - I totally got BLOWN AWAY!!! So sad that Hollis passed away aged just 64.. stands in line with the greatest of all time!!!!!
Living in another world to you! Dominican republic listening Talk talk!
Danke Mark für deine Musik und danke Universum, das ich noch weiß wie handgemachte Musik klingt.
Марк, ты просто охрененный чувак, экстаз для ушей 🫦
I too come back to this every few years…it is always as magnificent as the first time! Brings me to tears every time….and it will as long as I live…..bless you boys

Man they are so good nothing like this today , I miss these bands who were great musicians and performers
Watching this in 2021. Fell in love with TT in 1983.
Me also it still reaches into my soul and takes me away.
Music never gets better than this.
Perfect rendition. It is great that this live version was recorded. Salute to all the musicians that passed from the new wave generation of the 80s. I still am listening to new wave music in November 2023. Until my last breath, I am a new waver! Mabuhay!
He truly is living in another world now. We won’t forget you though! R.I.P Mark
I allways loved synth pop.
But the sound Talk Talk produced and the voice of Mark Hollis will join me for the rest of my life.

Made by a magical band with the best voice OF ALL by Mark Hollis unique wonderful voice and the bands sound and TOP musicians of a great band from the 80:ties. Pure New Wave and top quality in all aspects on this fabulous live version from Montreux Jazz Festival 1986. Great solos and musicians. YOU NEVER FIND THIS SIMPLE UNIQUE QUALITIES IN MUSIC TODAY, UNFORTUNATELY.
This version and band should be THE MASTER PIECE FOR ANY LIVE PERFORMANCE AND ANY BAND .

Ruhe in Frieden, Marc! Deine Musik war fantastisch gut
I was 10 years old when this song was out and, I remember hearing it but never gave it a real listen. At 46, I appreciate Talk Talk and fully understand the complexity of their music and, just how incredible Mark Hollis was. RIP legend and thank you. 🙏
How great is this? Music like this no longer exists.
🤯my brain is disturbed, i am not able to control my feelings, that perfomance is….wow😳
Well said….it’s so good it hurts!
Mein Lieblingslied von Talk Talk! Eine fantastische Live Band! Unvergessen und UNSTERBLICH gut! 🫂
Great band and great heartfelt singer in Mark Hollis. I followed them since they first came out in the 80s and now I understand them better. What I mean by that is every lyric Mark sang had an awakened perspective… he wasn’t a showman, he kept it real. He KNEW, and I didn’t back then, it’s a difficult road to navigate RIP Legend 🙌
Perfect vocals - Perfect Band - Perfection pure - Amazing!! My favourite song of all time. That Bassline...
Masterpiece. Pay attention to the flawless orchestration and to balanced sound. Excellent !
